To find Imai Sokyu in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, investigate and eavesdrop on the gunsmiths in Sakai’s Firearm District, then search the southwestern part of town for an unmarked house. You’ll meet his son, Imai Sokun, there instead. Use Observation mode to reveal the blue quest marker when you’re close, then follow Sokun to his office to finish the quest.
Where is Imai Sokyu in Searching Sakai?
The meeting is in a house in southwestern Sakai, a little southwest of the gunsmith location and near the main road. The game does not provide an exact target pin, so enter the investigation area and activate Observation mode with the left trigger or L2 to look for the blue quest marker.

The person waiting inside is Imai Sokun, Sokyu’s son—not Sokyu himself. If the roadside side of the building does not offer a way in, check around its perimeter; guide descriptions differ on whether the usable entrance is by the road or at the back.
How to complete Searching Sakai
1. Investigate the gunsmiths in the Firearm District
Go to Sakai’s Firearm District and look for the blue investigation markers. The quest is part of The Golden Teppo storyline in The Onryo quest group. PowerPyx lists it as the tenth main quest, with a recommended level of 7 and a reward of 1,000 EXP; those are guide-listed details.

2. Eavesdrop on the two men
Among the marked locations, find the pair of men talking away from the merchants. Crouch near the covered box or nearby cover and listen to their conversation about forged contracts. This advances the investigation toward the counterfeit papers.
3. Secure the counterfeit papers
Continue through the encounter and follow the marker that appears. The guides describe different dialogue outcomes: some routes involve refusing to pay and chasing a fleeing blacksmith, while another offers 500 mon and leads to a fight. Gamer Guides also describes a conversation route using the Imai connection that can move things along peacefully; PowerPyx’s described choices end in a fight or the blacksmiths’ deaths. The accounts do not establish one universal outcome, so focus on obtaining the papers and proceeding to the next objective.

4. Search southwestern Sakai for Sokun’s house
Head to the investigation area southwest of the gunsmiths. Since there is no exact pin, use Observation mode once you are nearby and scan for the blue marker. If you cannot enter from the street-facing side, walk around the building and check for a rear entrance.
5. Speak with Sokun and choose a name
Inside, speak with Imai Sokun. When prompted, choose one of the false names: Shizuka, Sanuki, or Shigure. The guides report that the choice does not change the immediate outcome, though it may be referenced later.

Follow Sokun through town to his office and complete the final conversation. Its dialogue choice is described as inconsequential. The story then moves toward preparing for the tea ceremony, including obtaining a kosode and learning the ceremony’s rituals.
Quick Recap
Why the quest marker can be hard to find
- The target is not pinned precisely: Search the southwestern part of Sakai rather than expecting a pinpoint on the house.
- You may be looking for the wrong person: Sokun, not Sokyu, is inside the house.
- The entrance may not face the street: Circle the building if the roadside approach does not work.
- Observation works at close range: Once you are in the investigation zone, use it to spot the blue marker.
