A “SecurityHealthSSO is missing,” “SecurityHealthSSO.dll not found,” or “bad image” message usually means that Windows Security’s own interface files are missing or corrupted. It is not a normal standalone application that you should download from a DLL website. Install pending Windows updates, restart, run DISM first, run System File Checker second, then use Windows Security’s Repair or Reset option. If C:WindowsSystem32SecurityHealth is empty, treat the issue as a damaged Windows component and escalate to Microsoft-provided recovery files or Windows recovery rather than copying an unrelated DLL.
What does “SecurityHealthSSO is missing or not found” mean?
SecurityHealthSSO is a name seen in reports about files used by the Windows Security interface. The related files are normally under C:WindowsSystem32SecurityHealth. Microsoft does not publish a standalone SecurityHealthSSO download or a dedicated support procedure for that filename, so the message should be approached as a Windows Security or system-component integrity problem, not as a missing consumer app.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe symptom can appear as “SecurityHealthSSO.dll not found,” “SecurityHealthSSO bad image,” a reference to a missing SecurityHealthSSO executable, or a Windows Security window that will not open. A blank or empty SecurityHealth folder has also been reported in Microsoft Community cases. Those reports identify a missing-file symptom; they do not establish that the computer is infected or that a particular third-party file is the cause.
Is a missing SecurityHealthSSO file dangerous?
The filename alone is not proof of malware. It points to a Windows Security component, and the safest first response is to repair Windows using its own servicing tools. Do not delete the remaining files in the SecurityHealth folder, rename system components, or download a loose DLL from an unknown website. A DLL copied from a different Windows build can be the wrong version and can leave the component in a less serviceable state.

If the message appeared after an interrupted update, a failed repair, or other system-file damage, the built-in tools below address the Windows image and protected files together. Keep your normal security software enabled while you work; the procedure is intended to restore Windows Security, not to replace malware protection.
What should I do first?
Use the least invasive sequence: update and restart, repair the Windows image with DISM, run SFC, and only then repair or reset the Windows Security app. This order matters because DISM supplies the files that SFC may need.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →1. Install updates and restart
- Open Settings and go to Windows Update.
- Install all available updates, including any update that requires a separate restart.
- Restart the computer even if Windows does not insist on doing so.
An update can replace a missing component or restore the servicing baseline that later repair commands use. If the same message returns after the restart, continue with DISM rather than searching for a standalone SecurityHealthSSO download.
How do I run DISM to repair the Windows image?
Run Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) from an elevated Command Prompt before running SFC. Microsoft describes DISM as providing the files required to repair corrupted files and specifically advises running it before System File Checker.

- Press Enter and let the operation finish. Do not close the window while DISM is working.
- When it completes, leave the elevated prompt open so you can run SFC next.
DISM repairs the Windows image that supplies protected system files. It does not specifically download a file named SecurityHealthSSO.dll from a random source, and it is the evidence-backed first repair for a damaged Windows component. If DISM reports that it could not complete, note the message, restart once, and try the command again before moving to recovery. Do not skip directly to SFC when DISM has not completed successfully unless you are following a separate administrator’s recovery plan.
How do I run System File Checker after DISM?
Run SFC only after DISM has finished. SFC checks protected Windows files and replaces damaged copies when the repaired image contains a suitable version.

- Restart Windows after the scan completes.
Restarting is important because Windows Security may not reload a repaired component until the system starts again. If the error remains, continue with the app-level repair below; repeating SFC without addressing the Windows Security package is unlikely to add a different repair path.
How do I repair or reset Windows Security?
Windows exposes Repair and Reset for the Windows Security app. Repair is the lower-impact option; Reset is the fallback when Repair is unavailable or does not solve the problem.

Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find Windows Security, select its three-dot menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair and wait for Windows to finish.
- Restart and test Windows Security. If Repair does not fix the problem, return to the same page and select Reset.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Choose Apps, then Apps & features.
- Select Windows Security, choose Advanced options, and select Repair.
- Restart Windows and test the interface.
- If Repair is not available or does not help, return to Advanced options and choose Reset.
Repair targets the app package and normally preserves your Windows installation. Reset is a stronger app-level action and can clear that app’s settings, so use it only after Repair. Neither option is a substitute for DISM and SFC when protected Windows files are missing across the operating-system image.
What if the SecurityHealth folder is empty?
Check the folder only after the update, DISM, SFC, and app Repair/Reset steps. In File Explorer, enter C:WindowsSystem32SecurityHealth in the address bar. An empty folder matches the missing-UI-file symptom described in Microsoft Community reports, but the reports do not provide a universal, build-independent SecurityHealthSSO installer.

If SecurityHealthSetup.exe is already present in the Windows installation, a Microsoft Community moderator has advised running it. Another moderator response points to a matching Microsoft Update CDN installer. Treat both suggestions as escalation guidance rather than guaranteed fixes: the correct package can depend on the Windows edition and build.
- Check the file’s Properties and Digital Signatures before running any setup program.
- Confirm that the publisher is Microsoft and that the installer matches your Windows build and edition.
- Do not substitute a DLL downloaded from an unaffiliated “missing DLL” site.
- If no Microsoft-provided setup file is available, move to Windows recovery instead of guessing at a replacement file.
How can I verify that Windows Security is fixed?
After the final restart, open Windows Security from the Start menu. The interface should open without the SecurityHealthSSO message.

- Open Windows Security.
- Go to Settings inside the Windows Security window.
- Review Security providers and confirm that the expected provider status is shown.
- Review notification settings and the About section for version information.
- Close and reopen Windows Security once more to make sure the result survives a normal launch.
If the interface opens but the provider status is not what you expect, treat that as an incomplete repair rather than assuming the missing-file message is solved. Record the displayed version and any remaining error text before escalating.
Which repair path should I choose?
The right next step depends on whether the problem is limited to the Windows Security app or affects the broader Windows image. Use the lower-impact path first and reserve recovery or reinstall for persistent corruption.
| Path | What it targets | When to use it | Impact and evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows Update and restart | Pending component and servicing changes | Always the first check | Lowest impact; standard Windows maintenance |
| DISM, then SFC | Windows image and protected system files | The message persists after updating or files appear damaged | Built-in repair; Microsoft specifically places DISM before SFC |
| Windows Security Repair | The Windows Security app package | The app will not open or its package is malfunctioning | Normally preserves the installation; use before Reset |
| Windows Security Reset | Windows Security app data and settings | Repair is unavailable or fails | May clear app settings; still narrower than Windows recovery |
| SecurityHealthSetup.exe or matching Microsoft Update CDN installer | Missing SecurityHealth UI files | The SecurityHealth folder is empty and built-in repair did not restore it | Medium-confidence, build-sensitive Community guidance; verify signature and match |
| Windows recovery or reinstall | The operating-system installation | Repairs cannot restore required files | Can change apps and settings; back up important data first |
What should I do if DISM or SFC cannot repair the files?
Do not keep replacing individual DLLs by hand. Microsoft’s system-file guidance says that when its repair tools cannot restore the files, a Windows recovery or reinstall path may be required.
Before recovery
- Back up documents, game saves, browser data, and any other files you cannot replace.
- Record your Windows edition and build from Settings > System > About so a matching recovery source can be selected.
- Save the exact DISM and SFC results and any SecurityHealthSSO wording.
Choose the least disruptive recovery available
Use the recovery option offered by your Windows installation and read its data-retention choices carefully. A recovery or reinstall can change installed applications and settings even when personal-file retention is offered. If the computer is managed by an employer, school, or game café, ask the administrator to handle the recovery so licensing and policy settings are preserved.

Does Windows 10 change the recommendation?
The repair commands and Windows Security app paths above apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11, but Microsoft’s support page lists October 14, 2025 as the end of Windows 10 support. In 2026, a Windows 10 system that cannot restore Windows Security should be evaluated for an upgrade or an organization-approved replacement plan as well as for the immediate repair. Do not assume that a missing component will receive a future Windows 10 fix after support has ended.
What should I avoid while troubleshooting?
- Do not download
SecurityHealthSSO.dllor a similarly named executable from an unverified DLL repository. - Do not copy SecurityHealth files from another computer unless a Microsoft-provided installer explicitly matches the target build and edition.
- Do not delete the SecurityHealth folder to force Windows to recreate it.
- Do not run a setup file whose publisher or digital signature cannot be verified.
- Do not reset or reinstall before backing up data and checking which apps and settings the chosen recovery option will change.
After trying the manual steps, Outbyte PC Repair is an optional shortcut that can address more than 100 common Windows issues where possible, including broken system elements and shared DLL problems, while also offering settings tweaks, temporary-file cleanup, privacy checks, vulnerability checks, a real-time boost, file shredding, and an app-crash log. It complements antivirus software rather than replacing it, results vary, and no tool repairs every crash.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download SecurityHealthSSO.dll by itself?
There is no dedicated Microsoft SecurityHealthSSO download in the documented repair guidance. Use Windows servicing tools or a verified, build-matched Microsoft recovery installer instead of a loose DLL from an unknown site.
Can I copy the SecurityHealth folder from another Windows computer?
That is not a reliable repair because Windows builds and editions can contain different component versions. A Microsoft-provided installer that explicitly matches the affected system is safer than copying files between PCs.
How do I check whether a replacement setup file is genuine?
Open the file’s Properties, review the Digital Signatures tab, and confirm Microsoft is the signer before running it. If the signature is missing, invalid, or belongs to an unexpected publisher, do not execute the file.
Will Windows Security Repair remove my installed games?
Repair is an app-level action, not a Windows reinstall, so it is the lower-impact choice. Reset can clear Windows Security settings, while recovery or reinstall can change applications and system settings; back up important data before using those broader options.
