Start at Research & Administration, check the blue-staircase corner, sweep the destroyed dam wall, and loot ARC Couriers during an Electromagnetic Storm when possible. Sentinel spawns and drops are not guaranteed. A Sentinel kill can produce no Firing Core, and reported locations can be empty in a particular raid. Treat the routes below as high-value search areas rather than fixed spawn promises.
What Sentinel Firing Cores are used for
Sentinel Firing Core is a Rare resource obtained from ARC Couriers or destroyed Sentinels. Each core has a stack size of 3 and a weight of 1.0, according to the current item listing.

The available references confirm the Gunsmith 2 and Gunsmith 3 terminology but do not document a reliable in-game menu path or exact button sequence for performing the upgrade. Keep the cores in your stash until you have the other materials and can verify the current UI in your build.
How to identify a Sentinel
Do not confuse the target with an ordinary machine-gun turret or a Surveyor. A Sentinel is a stationary sniper turret that:
- uses a thick orange targeting laser;
- converges its beams before firing;
- can inflict very high damage with its shot; and
- may continue firing at your last known position after you break line of sight.
Its weak point is the yellow canister attached to its swiveling arm. Distance by itself is not a dependable defense: once you have been spotted, use hard cover and change position rather than assuming that moving farther away has cleared the threat. The Sentinel reference provides the current identification and weak-point details.
Standard machine-gun turrets and Surveyors do not provide Sentinel Firing Cores. If the ARC does not have the characteristic sniper laser and swiveling-arm canister, you are probably fighting the wrong target.
Best farming route: Dam Battlegrounds
Dam Battlegrounds is the strongest dedicated farming choice because its reported Sentinel areas are relatively close together and the map also has dense Courier coverage. Use this loop:

- Destroyed dam wall/Breach: search both sides of the gap, including the north side, south side, and elevated metal walkways overlooking the breach.
- Courier sweep: check around Research & Administration, the dam wall, and the Power Generation Complex for the large white ARC Courier husks.
- Repeat the route: if the known spots are empty, extract or continue looting rather than assuming the map has no possible Sentinel. The R&D staircase position is commonly reported, but it is not a guaranteed spawn.

Best Dam condition
For a Courier-focused run, prioritize an Electromagnetic Storm when available. Current farming guidance reports increased Courier density during that condition, and Dam has the highest concentration of useful Courier areas. A Night Raid is also reported as favorable for Sentinel activity on Dam, but it does not guarantee a Sentinel at any particular location.

ARC Couriers: the second way to get Firing Cores
ARC Couriers are large white, cylindrical or chest-like ARC husks that emit black smoke. Breach and loot them; a Sentinel Firing Core is a rare possible result, not a guaranteed drop.
Couriers are especially valuable because you can search for them while following the Dam Sentinel route. During an Electromagnetic Storm, prioritize Courier-dense areas around Research & Administration, the dam wall, and Power Generation Complex.

Reports disagree about Courier availability around Buried City: one current source recommends other ARC targets there, while another reports Couriers around the perimeter. Treat Buried City Courier sightings as map- and raid-dependent until confirmed in your own match, rather than relying on either claim as universal.

Dam Battlegrounds
- Research & Administration, at the outside corner near the blue staircase/south corner.
- Both sides of the destroyed dam span at the Breach.
- Elevated metal walkways overlooking the dam gap.
This is the most practical map for repeated farming, but none of the Dam positions is guaranteed in every raid.
Buried City
- Town Hall bell tower.
- Underside of the overpass south of Town Hall, also described as the collapsed highway south of the map center.
- Santa Maria Houses courtyard, Hospital, and Research buildings are additional reported possibilities, but these locations are described inconsistently and should not be treated as confirmed fixed spawns.
Buried City is generally less efficient than Dam for a dedicated Firing Core hunt because Sentinel sightings are reported less frequently. Search it when the route also serves another objective, or when the available conditions make Dam unattractive.
Spaceport / Acerra Spaceport
Reported Spaceport areas include:
- Rocket Assembly;
- Container Storage;
- Control Tower A6; and
- the east corner of South Trench Tower.
A practical sweep is Rocket Assembly → Container Storage → Control Tower A6, checking elevated walls, catwalks, hangars, container lanes, runway-facing structures, and central industrial buildings as you move. One current guide reports up to six potential Spaceport positions, but it does not enumerate all six in text, so do not treat that number as a complete route or a guarantee.
The Blue Gate
Check the following reported areas:
- the concrete area at the northeast Checkpoint;
- Pilgrim’s Peak tower;
- the radio tower; and
- the concrete beams spanning the Outer Gates.
These positions are spread far apart, making The Blue Gate inefficient when Firing Cores are your only objective. Pilgrim’s Peak is sometimes described as a “100% spawn,” but that claim is not supported consistently by current sources. Treat it as a possible location, not a guaranteed one.

Stella Montis
Current references conflict. ArcMaps and Gamer Guides report that Sentinels do not spawn on Stella Montis, while the current ARC Raiders Wiki lists a Sentinel in the middle of the Atrium ceiling. The defensible conclusion is: Stella Montis has conflicting current reports, and no uncontested farming location is verified.
If you search the Atrium, remember that a ceiling-mounted Sentinel can drop or lose its wreckage below the original mount. Do not treat the Atrium report as confirmed without in-game corroboration.
Riven Tides
Riven Tides appears in the current map index, but the supplied references do not provide a verified Sentinel location or a confirmed Firing Core farming route for it. There is therefore no reliable Riven Tides circuit to recommend at present.
Why a Sentinel kill may not give you a Core
A destroyed Sentinel does not have a verified one-core-per-kill drop rule. Players may find no visible Firing Core after a kill, so one unsuccessful encounter does not prove that the location or target was wrong.

- check the floor directly beneath the original mount;
- inspect lower platforms and nearby ledges; and
- pay particular attention below ceiling-mounted Sentinels.
Use the item pickup or inventory result—not the visible wreck alone—to confirm whether you obtained a Core.

- Choose Dam Battlegrounds for the shortest dedicated route.
- Prefer Electromagnetic Storm when your priority is Courier density.
- Identify the enemy before spending resources: look for the orange sniper laser and yellow arm canister.
- Run R&D, the blue-staircase corner, the Breach, and both dam sides.
- Loot every nearby Courier rather than relying exclusively on Sentinel kills.
- Search below destroyed or ceiling-mounted ARC units for displaced loot.
- Do not rotate maps after exactly one kill or assume every raid contains exactly one Sentinel. Those claims are not verified, and multiple possible spawns plus repeated-map farming are reported.
- Extract with the Core safely once you have the required amount. You need four for Gunsmith 2 → Gunsmith 3, and losing one successful run can outweigh the time saved by continuing.

Sell or recycle a Firing Core?
Keep the Core if you are working toward Gunsmith 3: the upgrade requires four. If you decide to sell or recycle one, note that Patch 1.17.0 changed its values:
- Sell value: reduced from 3,000 to 2,000.
- Recycling output: changed from 2× ARC Alloy + 3× Mechanical Components to 2× ARC Alloy + 2× Mechanical Components.
Those changes make selling or recycling a Core less attractive when the Gunsmith upgrade is still unfinished. Check your current in-game values after future patches, since live-service item economies can change.
