Most symbols fall into two categories:
- Official Roblox indicators: account badges, staff markers, subscription indicators, or relationship icons supplied by Roblox.
- Experience-specific tags: labels and icons created by a game developer for a particular Roblox experience.
Common official symbols beside Roblox names
Blue checkmark: the Verified Badge
A blue checkmark attached directly to a Roblox account name is the Verified Badge. Roblox uses it to identify eligible notable and authentic creators, developers, groups, and certain off-platform figures.
You may see the Verified Badge beside a name on Roblox user or group profiles, Marketplace pages, item and experience detail pages, and search results. It is important that the checkmark is attached to the display name itself. A checkmark placed in a user’s biography, image, game description, or other user-created content is not proof that Roblox verified the account.

The badge does not mean that Roblox endorses the user, guarantees that the account is safe to interact with, gives the user special powers, or improves their position in search and recommendations. Roblox grants the badge, and its eligibility requirements can change. Current requirements include activity or sales-related thresholds for some experience developers and avatar-item creators, along with authenticity and account-security conditions.
Roblox Admin icon
The Roblox Admin icon identifies a Roblox staff member or administrator. Roblox Support says genuine staff accounts should display the Admin icon beside their display name. Roblox has also documented a tilted-square staff indicator in in-experience leaderboards.
If someone claims to be a Roblox employee but does not have the official Admin icon, treat the claim as unverified and report it through Roblox’s reporting tools when appropriate. Do not confuse this platform-wide indicator with a player who has been given an “admin,” moderator, or staff role inside a particular game. A game developer can assign those local permissions without the player being employed by Roblox.

Roblox Plus launched globally on April 30, 2026, as a paid Roblox subscription. Roblox’s announcement says Plus subscribers receive a distinct badge on their profiles. Depending on the Roblox interface, a Plus-style symbol may therefore indicate that the account has an active Roblox Plus subscription.

Roblox Plus includes platform benefits such as discounts on eligible in-game items and avatars, free access to supported paid private servers, and other subscription features. The exact artwork and placement may change as Roblox updates its interfaces, so the important point is the subscription status—not a particular permanent shape or color.
The older Premium icon
Roblox Premium historically displayed a Premium icon beside subscribers’ usernames in games and elsewhere on Roblox. Older screenshots, videos, and guides may still show it.
However, Roblox’s April 2026 Roblox Plus announcement says that new Premium sign-ups will no longer be accepted, existing Premium members can continue their memberships, and Roblox planned to discontinue the Premium logo beginning May 30, 2026. During this transition, the icon shown may differ between older screenshots, app versions, and Roblox interfaces. An old Premium symbol should not automatically be interpreted as a new social rank or achievement.

Roblox’s documented player-list priority system dates from 2019, so it should be treated as historical guidance rather than a guarantee that every icon still appears in exactly the same place or order. Roblox has redesigned parts of its interface since then. The general lesson remains useful: some player-list symbols describe how an account relates to you or what role it has in the current session, rather than representing a permanent account-wide badge.
Symbols created by a specific Roblox game
Many symbols beside names are not Roblox-wide indicators at all. Developers can add custom tags to a game’s chat, player list, leaderboard, or overhead name display.
Roblox’s TextChatService supports customized chat displays, including tags based on gameplay context, player attributes, group membership, permissions, and roles. A developer might append a VIP tag to a player’s name, for example. Games can also customize parts of their chat interface, which means a familiar-looking icon may be local game design rather than an official Roblox status.

Experience-specific symbols may identify:
- VIP or paid in-game status;
- a team, faction, class, or department;
- a group rank or role;
- a game moderator, developer, or administrator;
- a donor, tester, influencer, or content creator;
- a safe-zone, voice, or gameplay status; or
- a decorative symbol chosen by the developer.
A star, crown, shield, diamond, microphone, or colored checkmark can look official without being a Roblox platform badge. If it appears only in one experience, its meaning applies only there unless the same indicator also appears in an official Roblox-controlled interface.

How to identify an unfamiliar symbol
- Check where it appears. A symbol on a Roblox profile, Marketplace result, or official search result is more likely to be platform-level. An icon in a game’s custom chat, leaderboard, or overhead display is more likely to be experience-specific.
- Check what the symbol is attached to. For verification, the blue checkmark must be attached directly to the display name. A symbol in a biography, thumbnail, image, or description can be copied or added by the user.
- Compare the account in another experience. If the icon disappears when the player joins a different game, it probably represents a local rank, team, VIP status, or gameplay condition.
- Look at the game’s own help or rules. Developers often explain custom tags in an experience’s tutorial, settings, group page, update notes, or community channels.
- Do not rely on a claimed title. Calling oneself an admin, moderator, Roblox employee, or verified creator does not establish that status. Official Roblox staff accounts should have the Admin icon.
- Consider when the screenshot was made. Roblox changes its interface and subscription branding. Premium-era screenshots may not match the current Roblox Plus transition.
What the symbols do not necessarily mean
A Verified Badge is not identity or age verification
The public Verified Badge and Roblox’s account identity or age-verification indicators are separate things. Roblox’s identity-verification information describes an account indicator in Settings > Account Info. That setting should not be confused with the public blue badge for notable and authentic accounts.
A symbol beside a name is not necessarily an experience badge
Roblox experience badges are achievements that users can earn and view in the Badges section of their inventory. An experience badge does not automatically explain an icon shown beside someone’s name during a live game. The name symbol may instead be a custom role, team marker, subscription indicator, or player-list relationship icon.
A local admin tag is not Roblox employment
A game can give a player moderation powers or display an “Admin” label. That only proves something about that experience. It does not make the person a Roblox employee or give them authority over Roblox accounts, payments, moderation decisions, or other games.
