Konami’s October 25, 2024, Hotfix 1.05 addressed a progression-blocking bug that some Silent Hill 2 remake players encountered in the Labyrinth after Patch 1.04. The issue affected a specific save sequence—not every player: a save made in the Labyrinth after Toluca Prison on the previous version, then loaded after updating to Patch 1.04. Konami said the hotfix added a safeguard to force the required progression triggers to activate.

How the Labyrinth bug unfolded

Patch 1.04 arrived on October 21

Konami’s Patch 1.04 notes, dated October 21, 2024, cover the PlayStation 5 and Steam versions. They list other Labyrinth fixes, including an issue on the Disgust Path that could make players repeat that section. That was separate from the progression blocker reported after the update. Players reported a progression block

On October 22, GameSpot reported that some players could not continue after solving the rotating cube puzzle: the cube did not disintegrate as expected. The report reproduced an in-game notice acknowledging the issue. It quoted the notice as saying: “We are aware of an issue some players may encounter after the most recent 1.04 patch released on October the 21st in the Labyrinth level of Silent Hill 2. The fix will be released as soon as possible. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.” The notice did not name an individual spokesperson. GameSpot’s report.

Which saves were affected?

Konami’s October 25 Hotfix 1.05 announcement described the affected sequence more narrowly: players had saved in the Labyrinth after Toluca Prison while on the previous version, then loaded that save after installing Patch 1.04. The announcement does not say that every Labyrinth save—or every player—was affected. It gives no player count or percentage. Konami’s Hotfix 1.05 announcement.

What players should take from the incident

  • The reported blocker followed Patch 1.04 and concerned progression at the Labyrinth’s rotating cube puzzle.
  • Konami’s later description ties the affected case to a save made after Toluca Prison on the prior version and loaded after updating to 1.04.
  • Hotfix 1.05 was the announced remedy for Steam and PS5; the stated fix was a trigger safeguard.

The cited notices do not establish a guaranteed workaround for affected saves before the hotfix, or whether advice shared by players applied across platforms and save states.
