There is no measured, universal hardest-boss ranking: your upgrades, when you reach an encounter, and how quickly you learn Hornet’s movement all affect the challenge. These spoiler-aware examples show what can make particular fights difficult and what to watch for.
Why Silksong’s boss fights can feel demanding
Silksong is Team Cherry’s action-adventure sequel starring Hornet, released on Steam on September 4, 2025, according to the Steam listing. Nintendo Life’s 2025 guide lists over 40 boss encounters, though that is the guide’s count rather than a total confirmed by Team Cherry. The roster includes both progression fights and optional encounters, so not every player will face every boss in the same order.
Difficulty also depends on the player’s state of preparation and approach. In a GamesRadar+ report about comments from Team Cherry co-founder Ari Gibson, he explained that Hornet is faster and more capable than the Knight, which meant even ordinary enemies needed to be more complex and intelligent. Gibson also described exploration, learning, and sometimes bypassing a challenge as ways players can mitigate difficulty. That is a design explanation, not a guarantee that every boss will feel equally hard to every player.
Which Silksong bosses can be especially tough?
The examples below are not a ranked list. They illustrate different sources of difficulty: an early test of reaction and spacing, hazards that punish careless positioning, multi-hit attacks, and a later return that escalates an earlier rivalry.

Lace: an early test of timing
GameSpot describes the first Lace fight in Deep Docks as a true early test, largely because her attacks are fast. Its guide calls out a multi-stab fencing move and an aerial dash-and-slash. The platform’s edge matters, too: falling is dangerous, so reacting by retreating without regard to position can create a separate problem.
GameSpot’s advice is to observe her patterns and favor defense over rushing in. Look for safer openings after her attacks; the guide also recommends pogo attacks during her ordinary ground attacks. The key is to distinguish an opening from a move that is still active rather than treating every apparent pause as permission to attack.

Last Judge: attacks that punish poor positioning
Nintendo Life identifies Last Judge as the final boss before entering the Citadel and notes that some early encounters are surprisingly tough. GameSpot describes a flail, flames, and a rushing attack that leaves an eruption trail. Together, those attacks make positioning central to the fight: standing too close, or moving into the trail of an attack, can leave little room to respond.
Moorwing: overlapping hits and projectiles
GameSpot highlights Moorwing’s multi-hit sickle attacks and projectiles that can strike more than once. A dodge that avoids the first hit may not clear the full sequence. Pay attention to the attack’s duration and the projectile’s path before moving back in; distance and timing matter as much as the initial reaction.

Phantom: unusually quick attack animations
GameSpot characterizes Phantom as having some of the game’s fastest attack animations. The guide notes that her weapon throws indicate where a stab or dash will travel. Treat that as a cue to read the attack’s direction rather than a universal timing rule: the useful response depends on where Hornet is and how much room the arena gives you.
Late-game Lace: a return with added escalation
Late-game spoiler: Lace returns later in the game. GameSpot describes the rematch as adding phases, area attacks, and multi-hit sequences. The added layers make it a different test from the first encounter, where the emphasis is on learning her fast moves and managing the platform edge.

How to prepare when a boss is stopping your progress
Rather than assuming a fight requires a particular build, consider whether exploration can improve the tools you bring into it. GameSpot points to Mask Shards, Spool Fragments, Pale Oil, and Silk Skills as relevant upgrade paths. These can address different needs: survivability, silk capacity, weapon damage, or additional abilities.
- Explore before repeating a stalled attempt. Optional paths may lead to upgrades or skills that better suit the encounter.
- Watch a full attack pattern. For fast or multi-hit moves, learn when the sequence actually ends before committing to a counterattack.
- Use the arena as part of your plan. Against Lace, the edge of the platform is a hazard; against attacks that leave trails or cover an area, avoid moving into the space the attack has just occupied.
- Change approach, not just aggression. A defensive attempt focused on recognizing safe openings can reveal more than repeatedly pressing an attack through uncertain moments.
Are these officially the hardest Silksong bosses?
No. The available guides describe challenging encounters and offer strategies, but they do not establish a controlled difficulty ranking, player loss rates, or a universal order from easiest to hardest. Nintendo Life’s roster is useful for finding boss locations and rewards, while GameSpot’s guide supplies encounter-specific descriptions and advice. Those are editorial guides, not an official difficulty scale.
