What SMCY-25 means
An EA Forums report about SimCity (2013) associates SMCY-25 with the Russian-language message “Не удалось подключиться к серверу обновлений SimCity,” meaning “Could not connect to the SimCity update server.” The report does not identify a confirmed cause or say that the suggested troubleshooting resolved the player’s issue. Try these connection checks in order
- Confirm the game and record the message. Make sure the affected title is SimCity (2013), and note the full error code and wording in case you need to contact EA Support.
- Check the EA app and recover it. Verify the app can connect online. In the app, choose Help → App Recovery, then use the option to clear its cache. Reopen the app and try launching the game again.
- Test without connection intermediaries. Temporarily disable a VPN or proxy, or pause network-filtering software, and try again. Treat this only as a short diagnostic test; restore your protections afterward. If the error disappears, investigate the relevant app’s settings rather than leaving protection disabled.
- Try a separate network. For example, connect the PC to a phone hotspot and retry. If SimCity updates on the alternate connection but not the usual one, that points toward a difference in the original network path; it does not by itself identify which setting or device is responsible.
These steps follow the suggestions in the SMCY-25 EA Forums thread. The poster said reinstalling the game had not fixed the problem, so reinstalling alone should not be treated as a reliable solution.
If SMCY-25 continues
Check whether firewall or antivirus settings are blocking the EA app or SimCity, and review other software that can filter or intercept network traffic. An EA community response about the related but different code SMCY-19 also mentions permissions, Nahimic, the in-game overlay, compatibility settings, and clean boot troubleshooting. If you contact EA Support, include the code, exact message, whether the EA app can connect online, and what changed when you tested another network. That information helps distinguish a game-launch issue from a connection-path problem.
