Sul Sul is the clearest Simlish greeting to know: EA’s Spark’d lexicon translates it as “hello.” Other recognizable phrases are less straightforward. Simlish is a fictional, expressive language, and EA says its phrases often suggest a theme rather than translate word for word.

Why Simlish phrases do not always have exact translations
EA describes Simlish as a fictional language created to feel universally relatable, using improvisation and emotion. In the Sims Sessions feature, interviewee Jackie says, “The Simlish language is not a 1:1 translation.” Phrases may suggest broad themes—such as greeting, food, or babies—without each phrase standing for one fixed English word or sentence.
For songs, performers and writers balance recognizable sounds and themes with the music itself. Jackie describes using Simlish cheatsheets during recording, while Robi says, “Making the Simlish fit the song is far more important than any word or anything that we have.” A phrase heard in a lyric may therefore be chosen for its sound and performance as much as for an English equivalent.

Can you learn Simlish from a dictionary?
An accepted response by an EA community manager on the EA Forums, dated May 2, 2022, says there is no official Simlish dictionary and notes that fans have made their own lists. EA’s Spark’d lexicon is a short official reference, not a comprehensive vocabulary guide.
Fan dictionaries can be fun references, but their entries are unofficial and may combine interpretations from different games or contexts. Treat them as fan explanations rather than a single canonical set of translations. If you want a confidently sourced phrase, stick to the small number EA explicitly defines, such as Sul Sul.
