There is no one-for-one replacement for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft’s remake launched on July 9, 2026, and its appeal still comes from combining an authored, solo Edward Kenway story with ship battles, exploration, stealth and on-foot combat. The best follow-up therefore depends on which part you want to keep: Sea of Thieves for a crew, Skull and Bones for ship combat and builds, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii for flamboyant character action, Windrose for survival and crafting, Sid Meier’s Pirates! for a classic Caribbean sandbox, or The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition for pirate humor and puzzles.

Resynced itself has no multiplayer mode. That distinction matters: online recommendations below provide different kinds of pirate play rather than reproducing its single-player Assassin campaign.

What is the closest kind of follow-up to Black Flag Resynced?

The closest choice depends on the activity you miss. If you want to sail with friends, choose Sea of Thieves. If your priority is naval battles, equipment choices and a ship-focused progression loop, choose Skull and Bones. For a solo story with exaggerated melee action and a crew, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is the tonal alternative. Windrose shifts toward survival, crafting and settlement building, while Sid Meier’s Pirates! offers the broadest old-school captain sandbox. The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is the pick for comic pirate characters and puzzles, not cannon combat.

Those are editorial fit recommendations based on each game’s published premise and modes, not a ranking from hands-on testing. None combines Resynced’s exact blend of historical-style Caribbean adventure, stealth, sword fighting and ship-to-shore flow.

What should you play first? A quick comparison

Game Best for Solo/co-op What it shares with Black Flag Biggest departure Availability note
Sea of Thieves Crews, voyages and emergent piracy Online co-op and online PvP; Safer Seas limits encounters Sailing, islands, treasure hunts and ship combat Shared-world service game rather than a private authored campaign Steam lists online multiplayer and cross-platform play; Safer Seas is online, not offline
Skull and Bones Ship combat, cargo and captain builds Solo or cooperative online play Naval encounters, exploration and upgrading a vessel Almost all meaningful action is ship-based; no equivalent on-foot Assassin loop Ubisoft describes it as a naval action RPG
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Character action, humor and a crew Primarily a solo story with crew and ship systems Boarding-style pirate fantasy, rival crews and Pacific voyages Modern, fantastical setting and series-style brawling rather than historical Caribbean realism Check the current publisher storefront for the platform and edition available in your region
Windrose Survival, crafting and building around a ship Solo with optional online co-op Open-water travel, ship fights and island exploration Early-access survival structure instead of a finished cinematic campaign Described as a PC early-access game; status and roadmap can change
Sid Meier’s Pirates! A free-form Caribbean captain sandbox Solo Treasure, naval encounters, factions and choosing whom to serve Older systems and presentation; not a modern remake-scale action adventure Check current store compatibility before buying on a modern system
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition Pirate comedy and point-and-click puzzles Solo Memorable pirates, islands and a playful seafaring world No real-time naval combat; progress comes from dialogue and puzzle solving The cited comparison identifies the PC Special Edition; do not confuse it with Return to Monkey Island

Is Sea of Thieves a good replacement if I want to be a pirate with friends?

Yes, if “pirate game” means sharing a ship, dividing jobs and creating stories with a crew. It is the clearest multiplayer follow-up, but it is not an offline substitute for Resynced’s campaign.

Rare’s design revolves around crews sailing a shared sea, accepting voyages, finding treasure, fighting skeletons or rival players, and deciding whether to run, negotiate or battle. Steam describes online co-op, online player-versus-player activity and cross-platform multiplayer. That makes it suitable when the social part of piracy matters more than playing a fixed protagonist.

Resynced explicitly has no multiplayer mode. Ubisoft’s FAQ states: “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced does not include a multiplayer mode.” Sea of Thieves reverses that priority: even solo sailors are entering an online service, and the game’s strongest moments come from cooperation or unpredictable encounters rather than a private narrative sequence.

What does Safer Seas change?

Safer Seas is an online mode designed to reduce or remove much of the player-versus-player pressure. Rare says it supports most content, including story-driven Tall Tales, while listing exceptions for certain PvP-oriented and other activities. It still requires an internet connection; it is not an offline campaign mode. Check the current mode rules before starting if a specific voyage, progression feature or activity is your reason for buying.

Choose Sea of Thieves when you want crew roles, voice-chat coordination, ship maintenance and stories that emerge from human decisions. Avoid it if your requirement is a fully scripted solo hero, stealth assassinations or a historical recreation of the Caribbean.

Should you choose Skull and Bones for naval combat?

Choose Skull and Bones when the ship itself is the main character. Ubisoft presents it as a naval action RPG centered on combat, equipment and build choices, playable alone or cooperatively.

You spend your time selecting a vessel, fitting weapons and defenses, managing cargo and engaging other ships. That focus makes it a better answer than Resynced for readers who mainly want to compare hulls, optimize loadouts and learn naval engagements. Progression is tied to your captain and fleet rather than to an on-foot Assassin moving through towns.

The trade-off is fundamental. Black Flag Resynced alternates between sailing, boarding, stealth and melee missions. Skull and Bones does not provide an equivalent authored Edward Kenway campaign or a seamless ship-to-street assassination loop. Its solo option means you can play without a co-op partner, not that it becomes the same type of single-player adventure.

Pick it if your mental image of the ideal follow-up is “one more naval battle, then a better ship.” Pick something else if you want social taverns, puzzle comedy, survival construction or extensive on-foot exploration.

Is Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii the best action-focused alternative?

It is the strongest tonal alternative for players who want a flamboyant hero, a crew and constant melee spectacle. It is not a historical Caribbean simulation and should not be bought expecting Black Flag’s stealth systems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The contemporary pirate adventure follows Goro Majima as he forms a crew, takes a ship into Pacific waters, upgrades it and fights rival forces. Its pirate fantasy is filtered through the series’ characteristic humor, dramatic set pieces and exaggerated combat. That gives it a strong solo identity while still delivering ship travel, crew management and clashes at sea.

The setting and tone are the decisive departures. Resynced asks you to inhabit a period-inspired assassin moving through a recognizably Caribbean world; Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is modern, colorful and intentionally absurd. The comparison is therefore about energy and structure—hero, crew, ship, rivals and action—not historical authenticity.

Platform and edition availability can vary by region and change over time, so verify the current publisher storefront before purchasing. Choose this game when you want character-driven action and comic pirate excess more than simulation or quiet exploration.

What does Windrose add that Black Flag Resynced does not?

Windrose turns piracy into a survival-and-building problem. Its described mix includes ship combat, exploration, crafting, settlement construction and optional online co-op.

Instead of following a finished cinematic campaign, you gather resources, maintain your ability to survive, improve your base and decide how to use the surrounding waters. The ship remains important, but it is part of a broader loop involving production, construction and exploration. That makes Windrose a useful recommendation for players who enjoyed the fantasy of making a haven and preparing for the next voyage more than the historical plot.

Windrose is identified as a PC early-access game. Early access is a material buying condition: features, balance, performance, save behavior and the eventual campaign structure can change, and there is no basis for describing it as a finished alternative to Resynced. Console availability should not be implied; check the current store listing for status, system requirements and update notes.

Choose Windrose if you are comfortable with an evolving game and want optional co-op around survival systems. Do not choose it as a guaranteed replacement for Resynced’s polished, linear story presentation.

Is Sid Meier’s Pirates! still worth considering after a modern remake?

Yes, if what you want is freedom to role-play a Caribbean captain rather than modern presentation. It remains the most direct recommendation for a player who values choosing whom to serve, whom to raid and how to pursue treasure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The classic sandbox lets you sail between ports, engage in naval encounters, hunt for wealth and make political choices among competing powers. Its appeal is systemic: your captain’s path emerges from decisions and opportunities rather than from one tightly authored revenge story. That makes it a useful contrast with Resynced, even though both use a Caribbean pirate framework.

Expect older interfaces, animation and combat conventions. It is not a graphical or mechanical equivalent to the remake, and its age can create compatibility questions on current operating systems. Recheck the active store listing and supported platforms before buying; modern availability and launcher requirements are subject to change.

Pick Sid Meier’s Pirates! when “I want my own captain story” matters more than stealth takedowns, cinematic presentation or multiplayer.

What if I want pirate humor instead of naval combat?

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is the right answer for comedy, dialogue and puzzle solving. It is deliberately not a naval-combat recommendation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You play through a comic pirate adventure built around conversations, inventory puzzles and memorable characters. The Special Edition adds updated presentation while preserving the classic point-and-click structure. Islands and pirate culture are central to its identity, but the challenge is working out what to say or use next, not aiming broadsides or boarding an enemy deck.

This is a valuable choice when the atmosphere of pirate fiction matters more than action mechanics. It also offers a compact solo experience after a large open-world game. Keep it separate from Return to Monkey Island; the titles are related but not the same release.

How should a solo player choose among these games?

Start by deciding whether “solo” means an offline campaign, a solo mode in an online game or a sandbox that creates its own stories. Those are different requirements.

  1. Need a fully authored Edward-style adventure? None of the researched alternatives duplicates it. Keep Resynced as the reference and choose another game for a specific secondary interest.
  2. Want to play with friends? Choose Sea of Thieves, understanding that it is online and that Safer Seas still is not offline.
  3. Want the deepest ship-first loop? Choose Skull and Bones for naval combat and build decisions.
  4. Want a solo hero and exaggerated fights? Choose Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, accepting its modern and comic setting.
  5. Want to gather, craft and build? Choose Windrose only if its early-access status and PC focus suit you.
  6. Want a classic open-ended captain career? Choose Sid Meier’s Pirates!, after checking current compatibility.
  7. Want jokes and puzzles? Choose The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, not a combat substitute.

That decision tree avoids the most common mistake: treating every game with a ship as a Black Flag clone. Sailing, naval combat, pirate fiction, co-op and historical stealth are separate features.

What online and offline requirements should you expect?

Resynced’s main campaign can be played offline after its initial connection, while online Animus Hub content requires a connection, according to Ubisoft’s published information. Its lack of multiplayer means you do not need an online crew to complete the core adventure.

Sea of Thieves requires online access, including Safer Seas. Its appeal depends on a shared service and cross-platform multiplayer. Skull and Bones supports solo play as well as co-op, but its online architecture and current service requirements should be checked in the platform store before purchase. Windrose is described with optional online co-op, while the classic recommendations are fundamentally solo experiences. Requirements can change with patches, platform policies and regional editions, so verify the current listing if offline access is essential.

What should you know about buying Resynced itself?

If you have not finished the remake, the alternatives are not a reason to skip it. Ubisoft confirms a physical-copy option for the Standard Edition, including a PS5 physical edition, alongside digital purchasing. The physical product is the reference game itself, not an “after Black Flag” recommendation.

Ubisoft’s limited Collector’s Edition includes console discs, an Edward Kenway figurine, a logbook, a brooch, a SteelBook, a cloth map and a shanty sheet. Its official page currently marks the edition SOLD OUT. A retailer name appearing on that page does not prove current stock, so do not rely on old listings or assume a disc is available at the advertised price.

For a non-game way to remain in the setting, Titan Books lists The Art of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a 192-page hardcover with ISBN 9781835417706 and a US publication date of July 14, 2026. Treat that as a companion for art and world-building interest, not as part of the game ranking.

Which recommendation is best for each type of Black Flag fan?

If you miss… Start with… Why Accept this trade-off
Crewing a ship and sharing voyages Sea of Thieves Built around online cooperation and competition No offline campaign equivalent
Fitting ships and winning naval fights Skull and Bones Ship combat and captain builds are the core loop Little of the on-foot Assassin experience
A larger-than-life pirate protagonist Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Solo character action with a crew and ship Modern, comic and fantastical tone
Gathering resources and building a haven Windrose Survival, crafting, settlement building and sailing Early-access development and PC focus
Making your own captain’s career Sid Meier’s Pirates! Classic sandbox choices, factions and treasure Older presentation and compatibility concerns
Pirate jokes and clever puzzles The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition Solo comic adventure with updated presentation No meaningful naval-combat loop

What is the final recommendation?

For most readers, make the first fork at multiplayer. Choose Sea of Thieves if you want a crew, or Skull and Bones if you want ships and builds. For solo alternatives, choose Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii for action, Windrose for survival crafting, Sid Meier’s Pirates! for a classic captain sandbox, and The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition for comedy and puzzles. None replaces every part of Black Flag Resynced, and saying so plainly will help you buy the game that matches the specific experience you want next.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play Sea of Thieves completely offline after choosing Safer Seas?

No. Safer Seas reduces or removes much of the player-versus-player pressure, but it remains an online mode. Rare says it includes most content, including Tall Tales, while excluding certain activities.

Does Skull and Bones have stealth missions or playable towns like Black Flag?

Its published pitch is a naval action RPG focused on ships, combat and builds. Do not expect an equivalent stealth-assassination campaign or the same amount of on-foot exploration.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Windrose a finished game or a full Black Flag-style campaign?

Windrose is described as a PC early-access survival adventure. Its systems center on sailing, combat, crafting and settlement building, so its content and structure should not be treated as final or comparable to a completed cinematic campaign.

Which game is best if I want a pirate game with no multiplayer requirement?

Sid Meier’s Pirates! and The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition are fundamentally solo choices, while Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is presented as a solo character adventure. Check the current store requirements for any online activation or launcher policy before purchase.

Is the Black Flag Resynced Collector’s Edition still available?

Ubisoft’s official Collector’s Edition page currently labels it sold out. Retailer links or old listings do not guarantee inventory, authenticity or price, so verify stock directly before paying a premium.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
