Sky Force Anniversary earned generally favorable critic coverage, but the headline score needs a platform caveat: Metacritic’s 77/100 is an all-platform score, not a PS4 score. Its PS4 page lists three reviews—80, 80 and 70—with no PS4 aggregate shown. Critics broadly liked the old-school shooting and upgrade loop, while some objected to repetition, grind or padded objectives.
What is the critic score for Sky Force Anniversary?
Metacritic reports a 77/100 Metascore from 11 critic reviews, labeled “Generally Favorable.” That figure combines reviews across the platforms listed on the page—PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Wii U and Nintendo Switch—so it should not be presented as the score for any single console edition. Metacritic’s retrieved listing also shows nine positive and two mixed reviews. Metacritic’s all-platform page
Metacritic separately lists a 7.2 user score from 14 ratings on that page. User ratings are a different measure from the critic Metascore and should not be combined with it.
What did critics think of the PS4 version?
Metacritic’s PS4 page shows three reviews dated September 11–19, 2016. The scores are 80, 80 and 70; the retrieved listing does not show a PS4 aggregate score. Metacritic’s PS4 critic page

What explains the favorable-but-qualified reception?
The appeal: familiar arcade shooting with reasons to return
Review excerpts on Metacritic highlight the classic vertically scrolling shooter format, nostalgic arcade feel, upgrades and objectives. Medals and goals can give players reasons to replay stages and improve their runs. The PlayStation Store likewise describes the game as a scrolling shooter with 3D graphics and an upgrade system. The drawback: repetition and a demanding progression loop
Some reviewers found the repeated play, grind or forced medal requirements frustrating; another excerpt argues that local co-op makes the experience more rewarding than playing solo. Those are critical perspectives, not guarantees of how every player will respond. The practical trade-off is clear: players who enjoy replaying stages toward upgrades and objectives may find the loop compelling, while those seeking a short, varied campaign may be less satisfied.
Are the console versions reviewed or presented in the same way?
No. The all-platform score pools reviews from seven listed platforms, while the PS4 page offers its own three-review list. The evidence here does not establish separate critic aggregates for the other console versions, nor does it support a platform-by-platform comparison of performance or technical quality.

Store pages provide limited platform-specific context. Nintendo’s official US listing describes Switch play together on one console and online scoreboards; those details should not be assumed to apply to every version. Nintendo’s US listing The PlayStation Store reports a rating of 4.44/5 from 9,958 player ratings as retrieved in 2026. That is a changing storefront player-rating snapshot, not a critic score. Its page notes that PS5 play may require current system software.
