sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll: SOLIDWORKS Repair Decision Guide

“The program can’t start because sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll is missing from your computer.” The sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll error usually points to a damaged, incomplete, quarantined, or mismatched SOLIDWORKS installation rather than a Windows system-file problem.

Which fix applies to you

Use this list to choose the correct starting point:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • SOLIDWORKS stopped launching after an update, service pack, uninstall, cleanup, or failed installation: repair SOLIDWORKS first.
  • The error appeared after antivirus activity: check Windows Security Protection history before reinstalling anything.
  • Repair asks for missing files or repeatedly fails: download the same SOLIDWORKS release and service-pack family, then reinstall it.
  • The message says “specified module could not be found,” even though the DLL exists: a dependent SOLIDWORKS DLL may be missing. Reinstall the complete product instead of copying a single file.
  • Several unrelated applications also report missing Windows files: use DISM and SFC as Windows-health checks.
  • The problem appears only in an add-in, eDrawings, a file association, or another Dassault product: identify that product before repairing SOLIDWORKS.
  • The software was installed from an administrative image: contact the deployment administrator. Administrative-image installations generally need to be uninstalled and redeployed rather than repaired like an individual installation.
  • You are considering a DLL download, System32, SysWOW64, or regsvr32: do not start there. Those approaches can create a version, architecture, dependency, or security problem.

What sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll is

sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll is an application DLL associated in public file metadata with Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS. The catalogue describes its internal name as sldInnerDispatchProxy, but the exact SOLIDWORKS host product and release that installed it are not publicly established.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Some public catalogues list a build as version 20.0.0.5022, 32-bit, and approximately 37.6 KB. Treat those details as indicative catalogue metadata, not as an official Dassault Systèmes compatibility statement. They do not prove that every SOLIDWORKS release contains the same file.

Activation may require an existing digital license or a separately purchased valid product key. Back up important files before installation or repair.

There is no evidence that this is a Windows component. Do not normally place it in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Those directories are not general-purpose storage locations for application DLLs.

The message may appear in several forms:

  • sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll was not found
  • sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll is missing
  • The specified module could not be found
  • There was a problem starting sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll
  • The code execution cannot proceed because sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll was not found
  • sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error

These are generic Windows loader messages. “The specified module could not be found” can mean the named DLL is present but one of its dependencies is missing.

Fix 1: Repair the installed SOLIDWORKS product

This is the safest and most likely solution because SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager restores the files that belong together.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Close SOLIDWORKS and any Dassault Systèmes applications.
  2. Press Windows and search for Control Panel.
  3. Open Control Panel.
  4. Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
  5. Select the installed SOLIDWORKS version.
  6. Click Change at the top of the installed-program list.
  7. In SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager, choose Repair your installation.
  8. Select the affected SOLIDWORKS product.
  9. Click Repair and allow the process to finish.
  10. Restart Windows and launch SOLIDWORKS again.

Repair requires the original installation files and any applied service packs to remain available in their original location. If the installer requests a download folder, installation disc, network share, or administrative source that no longer exists, the repair cannot restore the file until that source is available.

If SOLIDWORKS is not listed

The installation may have been removed incompletely, installed under another product name, or deployed through an administrative image. Check Settings > Apps > Installed apps as well as Control Panel > Programs and Features.

If the application is absent from both locations, skip to the reinstall procedure. Do not copy sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll from another computer.

How to tell whether repair worked

A successful repair should let the affected SOLIDWORKS product start without the missing-DLL message. If the same message returns, note whether it occurs when launching the main program, an add-in, eDrawings, or a file opened through an association. That distinction identifies which installation needs repair.

Fix 2: Reinstall the matching SOLIDWORKS release

Use this route when repair is unavailable, the source files are missing, or Installation Manager reports that the repair could not complete.

  1. Identify the installed SOLIDWORKS year and service pack from the product entry, installation records, or the organization’s software inventory.
  2. Open the official SOLIDWORKS Downloads page from the vendor’s website.
  3. Select the matching SOLIDWORKS year, product, and service pack.
  4. Download the complete installation media.
  5. Right-click the downloaded setup program, such as SolidworksSetup.exe or setup.exe, and choose Run as administrator.
  6. Use SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager to install the product. Do not launch individual MSI files manually.
  7. Keep the download folder and installation media until the installation and first launch have been tested.
  8. Restart Windows.
  9. Launch SOLIDWORKS and test the workflow that originally produced the error.

Do not mix files from different SOLIDWORKS years or service packs. SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager and its download folders are release-specific, so a setup source for one release may not repair another.

If the program was installed from an administrative image, ask the administrator to rebuild or redeploy the image. The normal individual-PC repair path may not apply.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine

Security software can remove or quarantine an application DLL after an update or installation change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Look for an event involving sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll or the SOLIDWORKS installation folder.
  5. Expand the event and review the detected path and action.
  6. If the file is confirmed to have come from the legitimate SOLIDWORKS installation, use the available restore or allow option.
  7. Restart SOLIDWORKS.

Only restore a quarantined file when its location and origin are trustworthy. Reinstalling from official SOLIDWORKS media is safer than restoring a copy whose provenance is unclear. If the detection remains, run a full Microsoft Defender scan and have the installation checked by your organization’s security administrator.

Fix 4: Resolve a version or architecture mismatch

The public catalogue entry for this filename is listed as 32-bit, but that is not an official SOLIDWORKS compatibility statement. It also does not identify the exact release installed on your PC.

Check the following before replacing anything:

  • Which SOLIDWORKS year and service pack are installed.
  • Whether the error occurs in the main SOLIDWORKS program or another product.
  • Whether the installation is individual or deployed from an administrative image.
  • Whether the file is being loaded from the SOLIDWORKS installation directory.
  • Whether the error started immediately after an update or service-pack change.

Do not substitute a similarly named DLL from an older release or a different architecture. A 32-bit application DLL must be loaded in the application’s compatible 32-bit context. Placing it in System32 or SysWOW64 does not make it compatible and can hide the real installation problem.

Fix 5: Check for a missing dependency

A Windows loader message can identify sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll even when the actual missing component is another DLL that it needs.

Do not try to solve this by downloading several similarly named files. Repair or reinstall the complete SOLIDWORKS product so all dependencies are restored together.

If the file exists in the correct SOLIDWORKS folder but the error continues:

  1. Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  2. Select SOLIDWORKS.
  3. Choose Change.
  4. Select Repair your installation.
  5. If repair is unavailable, reinstall using the matching official setup source.
  6. Test the application after restarting Windows.

If only one Windows user profile is affected, test SOLIDWORKS under another existing profile. A different result can indicate a profile-specific configuration or permission issue, but it does not prove that the DLL itself is a profile file.

Fix 6: Use DISM and SFC only for broader Windows problems

SFC repairs protected Windows system files. It is not a vendor-specific replacement mechanism for a missing SOLIDWORKS DLL.

Use these commands when Windows itself has broader symptoms, such as several unrelated applications failing or Windows components behaving incorrectly.

  1. Open Start and search for Command Prompt.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
  3. Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for DISM to complete.
  2. Run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows and test SOLIDWORKS.

Microsoft documents DISM repair and SFC. These commands repair Windows components, not necessarily files owned by SOLIDWORKS.

Repeatedly running SFC or DISM will not replace a damaged SOLIDWORKS installation. If both commands complete successfully but the error remains, return to SOLIDWORKS repair or reinstall.

Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of hunting through Windows repair symptoms: its free scan shows what it finds, while repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling SOLIDWORKS remains the definitive fix for a missing file owned by that application.

Fix 7: Update a related driver only when symptoms point to one

A graphics or device-driver problem can cause SOLIDWORKS display or add-in failures, but it is not the normal cause of a missing application DLL. Do not update drivers as a substitute for repairing SOLIDWORKS.

If SOLIDWORKS also shows graphics errors:

  1. Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click the installed graphics adapter.
  4. Choose Update driver.
  5. Select Search automatically for drivers.
  6. Restart Windows and test SOLIDWORKS.

You can also check the computer or graphics-chip manufacturer’s official support page for a driver that matches the installed Windows architecture. Avoid installing a driver merely because the DLL message appears.

Outbyte Driver Updater can save time when you would otherwise hunt through Device Manager and manufacturer pages to identify stale drivers; its free scan shows the detected issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional and does not replace repairing the SOLIDWORKS installation.

What not to do

Do not download the DLL separately

Random DLL download sites sites may provide the wrong build, architecture, dependencies, or a tampered file. A standalone copy often leaves the damaged SOLIDWORKS installation untouched.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the official SOLIDWORKS Downloads page or the original installation media instead. Do not copy the file from another PC unless the release, service pack, installation path, architecture, and file signature are all known to match. Even then, official repair is preferable.

Do not run regsvr32 as a routine fix

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no evidence that sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX server.

Running:

regsvr32 sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll

will not restore a missing file or dependency. It may return an error stating that the module loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.

Do not use System Restore first

System Restore is a rollback option, not a file-specific repair. Consider it only when the file disappeared after a recent system change and SOLIDWORKS repair or reinstall is unavailable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If repair repeatedly fails

Record the exact error and preserve the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager logs. Then confirm that:

  • The correct year and service pack are being used.
  • The original download folder or installation media is complete.
  • The account has administrator permissions.
  • There is enough free disk space.
  • Security software is not blocking setup.
  • The installation is not controlled by an administrative image.

Contact the SOLIDWORKS reseller or support channel with the exact error, product year, service pack, installation type, and Installation Manager logs. This is especially important when the error appears in only one Dassault product or after a managed deployment.

FAQ

Is sldinnerdispatchproxyu.dll part of Windows?

No evidence supports that. It is associated with the application that installed it, specifically SOLIDWORKS-related software in public metadata. It should not be placed in a Windows system directory.

Which SOLIDWORKS version installed it?

The exact host product and release are not publicly established. Public catalogue metadata lists one build and architecture, but those details are not an official Dassault Systèmes manifest. Repair the installed release rather than guessing from the filename.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?

The only public catalogue entry located is listed as 32-bit. That is not an official compatibility statement for every SOLIDWORKS release. Let Installation Manager restore the correct file for the installed product.

Why does the message say the specified module could not be found when the file exists?

The named DLL may have a missing dependency, or the application may be loading an incompatible file. Reinstalling the complete SOLIDWORKS product is more reliable than copying one DLL.

Should I use SFC or DISM?

Use them when Windows has broader component corruption. They are secondary for this error and are unlikely to restore a missing SOLIDWORKS-owned file.

Can I fix it with Windows Features?

There is no evidence that enabling a Windows optional feature restores this DLL. Use SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager unless a separate installer specifically identifies a required Windows component.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the safest source for the file?

The original SOLIDWORKS installation media or the official SOLIDWORKS Downloads page for the matching release and service pack. Avoid standalone DLL downloads.
