Yes. Gust has officially confirmed that Atelier Karia: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Night (also referred to in product materials as Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories) can make Karia’s body shape appear slimmer or fuller through an optional eating-based system. With the feature switched on, the amount she eats during snacks can change her shape. Switching it off prevents snack intake from changing her shape, and a lock option can preserve a shape you prefer while the system remains enabled.
This is a confirmed pre-release feature, not a rumor or a character-creation slider. Gust has not yet published the number of shape stages, food thresholds, a complete food-to-shape chart, or the exact menu route for changing these settings.

What does Atelier Karia’s body-shape feature do?
The system links Karia’s visible body shape to snack consumption when the option is ON. Gust’s wording is explicit: “When the feature is turned ON, Karia’s body shape will change depending on how much she eats during snacks.” The change is therefore presented as a consequence of eating quantity, not as a manually selected weight value.
Eating is a broader gameplay system in Atelier Karia. Karia can consume ingredients, cooked food and synthesized items; the official feature information says eating affects her appearance and abilities, with more than 100 forms and abilities to discover. Body shape is one visible part of that system, but it is not a complete substitute for every effect food has on exploration, combat or other abilities.

Can I turn Karia’s body-shape changes off?
Yes. The announcement describes the feature as optional. Set it to OFF and snack intake will no longer change Karia’s body shape.
OFF is described as preventing future shape changes. Gust has not said that turning the option off automatically returns Karia to a default or previously recorded shape, so do not assume it functions as a reset command until the game’s menu documentation or a later update explains that behavior.
Can I lock Karia’s preferred shape?
Yes. A lock can preserve a shape you like even while the body-shape system is ON and Karia continues eating snacks.

The lock is described as preserving a preferred shape, not as freezing all food-related gameplay. Eating can still matter for abilities and forms, and the published information does not state whether a locked appearance changes any other visual effects. It also does not specify whether unlocking immediately resumes changes or how the game handles a lock made at a particular stage.

Exact stage behavior is still unknown. The available announcement does not provide a food-to-shape table, snack-count thresholds, ingredient values, or a command that restores a default appearance. Articles and videos that present those details as settled facts are going beyond what Gust has announced.
How does body shape relate to Karia’s abilities?
Appearance and abilities are connected to the larger eating feature, but body shape should not be treated as a direct stat chart. The official feature page says eating changes both Karia’s appearance and abilities and advertises over 100 forms and abilities. The body-shape announcement specifically explains snack quantity as the trigger for shape changes; it does not say that every shape stage grants a fixed list of bonuses.
Until Gust publishes the underlying rules, players should separate visual preference from build planning. Use food for the abilities, forms and exploration effects the game documents, and treat the body-shape setting as a way to control or preserve appearance.

Why was the feature added?
Gust and Koei Tecmo’s 2026 survey announcement said more than 38,000 people responded. A secondary report of the survey graphics attributed 78.9% of responses to support for body-shape changes, while 9.7% opposed them and 11.4% were neutral or did not mind. The same report said 62.8% preferred locking a favorite shape, 31.6% preferred changes based on the amount eaten, and 5.6% had no implementation preference.
Those percentages come from the secondary report, not a publicly reproduced set of original survey graphics in the announcement itself. They help explain the design choices Gust confirmed—dynamic changes plus a lock—but they do not establish how many stages or thresholds the finished game will contain.

The official product listing currently gives February 25, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It also shows a physical edition and a Premium Box. As a pre-release listing, the date, platform availability and edition details should be checked again closer to launch, especially by players comparing regional releases.

The Premium Box is described as including an Atelier Karia artbook, extra music tracks, nine A4 water-resistant posters and an early-distribution costume code. Those extras are edition contents, not additional body-shape controls; no edition-specific shape rules have been announced.
