As of October 30, 2026, there is no verified gigabyte figure for Slime Rancher 2 on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo has announced that the port launches in January 2027, but its announcement does not give a download size or an exact release day. The reliable number will appear on the game’s own Nintendo eShop page when Nintendo publishes the listing. Until then, do not treat the 1.1 GB shown for the original Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition, the 8 GB Windows requirement, or the Switch 2’s 256 GB internal capacity as the sequel’s installed size.
What storage figure is officially confirmed for Slime Rancher 2 on Switch 2?
No Switch 2 storage requirement has been published. Nintendo’s October 28, 2026 announcement says only that “Slime Rancher 2 launches for Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2027.” The announcement does not provide a file-size figure, a precise January date, or a physical-release specification. The game’s eventual Nintendo eShop listing is the authoritative place to check the required space for a digital purchase.

Nintendo’s platform announcement is available at Nintendo.com. The absence of a number is meaningful: no defensible Switch 2 download-size estimate can be calculated from the figures above.
Is 1.1 GB the size of Slime Rancher 2?
No. The 1.1 GB figure belongs to Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition, the original game. It is not a listing for the sequel, even if the store page displays a Switch 2 compatibility column.

The Nintendo eShop entry identifies that 1.1 GB requirement for the first game and also warns that installation may require more or less free space than the displayed listing figure. That caveat applies to interpreting the listing itself; it does not turn the number into a forecast for Slime Rancher 2. You can inspect the original game’s listing at Nintendo’s eShop site.
Using 1.1 GB as a placeholder for the sequel could leave a console short of space if the Switch 2 version contains higher-resolution assets, additional platform data, or a different packaging arrangement. It is safer to regard the sequel’s number as unknown until Nintendo posts its own product page.
Can the 8 GB PC requirement predict the Switch 2 download?
No. The 8 GB value is a Windows PC system requirement, not a measurement of the Switch 2 build. Monomi Park’s Steam page describes how much available storage a supported PC should have; it does not state that the console version installs at 8 GB or any related amount.
Console packages can use different compression, asset resolutions, executable formats, patch structures, and platform-specific files. Those differences make a direct conversion from a PC requirement unreliable. The Steam specification is useful for PC owners, but it should not be converted into a Switch 2 prediction. When will the exact Switch 2 requirement be available?
For a digital purchase, check the Slime Rancher 2 Nintendo eShop page after Nintendo publishes it. Nintendo’s storage guidance says buyers should verify the required space before purchasing. The listing should provide the platform-specific storage field needed to decide whether the console’s current free space is sufficient.

For a physical release, read the required-space information on the package. A physical format has not been confirmed for the Switch 2 version, so do not assume that a cartridge will eliminate downloads. If Nintendo eventually identifies the product as a game-key card, the complete game data must be downloaded, and the required free space will still matter. How do you check your Switch 2 storage before buying?
You need the console connected to the internet for the eShop listing, and you need to check the space currently free rather than the console’s advertised total capacity. Follow these steps once the sequel’s product page is live:
- Open Nintendo eShop on Switch 2 and search for Slime Rancher 2.
- Open the Switch 2 version’s product page and locate its required-space field. Confirm that the page is for the sequel, not Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition.
- On the console, open System Settings > Data Management and review the available space in system memory and on any compatible expansion card.
- Compare the listing’s required space with the location where you intend to install the game. A nominal 256 GB console has less usable room because Nintendo reserves storage for system data.
- If the available space is insufficient, decide whether to delete unused software, use compatible expansion, or postpone the purchase until you can make room. Nintendo advises verifying the requirement before completing the purchase.
The exact number should be copied from the live listing, including any wording about additional downloads. Do not substitute the original game’s 1.1 GB or the PC version’s 8 GB.
Do you need a microSD Express card for Slime Rancher 2?
Not necessarily. Whether you need expansion depends on the final Switch 2 requirement, your other installed games, updates and downloadable content, and the free space remaining on your console. No card capacity can be prescribed specifically for Slime Rancher 2 before its size is known.

Nintendo says Switch 2 can use a compatible microSD Express card to store downloaded software, updates and DLC. Ordinary microSD cards are not the appropriate expansion format for Switch 2 software. Save data remains in the console’s system memory rather than on the expansion card, so adding a card does not move your saves there. Nintendo’s Switch 2 storage information is at Nintendo Support.
If you are shopping before the eShop page is published, treat a “Nintendo Switch 2 microSD Express card” as optional storage expansion, not a mandatory Slime Rancher 2 purchase. Wait for the game’s required-space field before choosing a capacity.
What happens if Nintendo confirms a physical edition?
A confirmed cartridge release would give you a second format to compare, but it would not automatically mean zero downloads. Check the package for required-space information and determine whether the cartridge contains the game data or requires a download. Nintendo has not confirmed a physical Switch 2 edition or said that the game will use a game-key card.
A game-key card, if announced, is different from a conventional cartridge: it identifies the purchase but requires the console to download the full game data. That means the eShop or packaging requirement remains important even when you buy a box. - For one title, highlight the software on the HOME Menu, open Software Options, choose Manage Software, then select Delete Software.
- For a broader cleanup, open System Settings > Data Management > Quick Delete, select software, and confirm the deletion.
- Afterward, reopen System Settings > Data Management to confirm the newly available space before downloading the game.
Nintendo says deleting software preserves its save data. Re-downloading the software later restores the program, while the save remains in system memory. Do not confuse deleting software with deleting save data; the latter is a separate action and should not be selected merely to make room.

Keep the eShop’s stated requirement available at minimum, then consider your own update and DLC plans when deciding whether to expand storage. The current official material does not establish an additional Slime Rancher 2-specific allowance, so no extra gigabyte figure should be presented as a rule.
Digital installations can also need temporary working space while data is downloaded, verified or updated. The listing’s wording and Nintendo’s purchase-time guidance are the proper references for the release build. If the page changes after launch, use the current requirement rather than an older screenshot or a number copied from another platform.

What should you do when the listing appears?
Recheck the product page when Nintendo publishes it, especially if you are buying close to the January 2027 launch. Confirm all of the following before selecting Buy:
- The page names Slime Rancher 2 and identifies Nintendo Switch 2.
- The required-space field is for the sequel, not the 1.1 GB original-game listing.
- Your available system or microSD Express space meets that requirement.
- The format is clear: digital download, conventional physical cartridge, or a game-key card with a required download.
- You have checked for any separate update or DLC wording on the live page.
If Nintendo later posts a precise release day, confirms a physical format, or revises the required-space field, those details supersede the currently incomplete announcement. Until then, the accurate answer remains that the Switch 2 size is unannounced.

Will the Switch 2 version use the same save data as another version of Slime Rancher 2?
The available announcements do not establish cross-save or save-transfer support between Switch 2 and other platforms. Treat save compatibility as an unanswered feature question until Nintendo or Monomi Park specifies it.
Can I install Slime Rancher 2 on an ordinary microSD card in Switch 2?
