Reports of third-party Nintendo Switch 2 docks failing followed the console’s version 21.0.0 update in November 2025, but they involved some models—not every third-party dock. Nintendo said it did not intend to hinder legal compatibility. That historical statement and reports of individual fixes do not confirm how every dock works with current system software.
What happened after Switch 2 version 21.0.0?
On November 14, 2025, Tom’s Hardware reported that some owners said their third-party docking stations stopped sending video to a TV after installing system version 21.0.0. Some affected docks reportedly continued charging the console but produced no picture. The reports concerned certain models; they did not establish that all third-party docks were affected.
Nintendo told Tom’s Hardware: “Nintendo Switch 2 outputs audiovisuals once it detects that it is docked into a Nintendo Switch 2 Dock. Nintendo Switch does the same, outputting audiovisuals once it detects that it is docked into a Nintendo Switch Dock. Nintendo does not have any intention to hinder or invalidate legal third-party dock compatibility.” That is a statement about Nintendo’s intent, not a guarantee that every third-party product will work with every console update.
The coverage did not establish a representative count of affected consoles or docks, and no named stakeholder quote established deliberate blocking. Reports from users or voluntary reader polls should not be treated as a measure of how widespread the problem was.

Which docks were reported as working or affected?
Next 4K TV Dock Kit (NX-NS2DK)
Tom’s Hardware reported that Next’s NX-NS2DK was temporarily affected. The outlet said the manufacturer’s engineering team had resolved the issue and planned a firmware update with instructions. That was the vendor’s reported status in November 2025; it does not establish compatibility with current system software.
Antank S3 Max
Nintendo Life reported that its tested Antank S3 Max TV Dock Station functioned normally during the reports. This is a result for that model in that reporting context, not evidence that all Antank docks—or third-party docks generally—are unaffected today.

Nintendo Life also ran a voluntary poll about whether readers’ third-party docks still worked after version 21.0.0, which received 1,280 votes. A separate poll about whether readers used a third-party dock received 1,539 votes. Both were self-selected site polls, not representative surveys of Switch 2 owners, so their results cannot establish the share of users or products affected.
What is the latest Switch 2 update, and does it settle compatibility?
As of October 8, 2026, Nintendo UK lists version 23.0.1, released October 1, 2026, as the latest system update. Its release note says it fixed an issue from version 23.0.0 that could occasionally make software take a long time to start, pause, or close.

Nintendo’s system update history says version 23.0.0, released September 9, 2026, added VRR support in TV mode and requires a Nintendo Switch 2 dock update to enable that feature. These notes describe official system and dock features; they do not certify third-party docks for VRR or guarantee compatibility with every later update.
What should you do if your third-party dock has no TV picture?
- Check the exact dock model and console version. A charging connection without a TV image resembles the symptom reported in 2025, but that alone does not prove the cause is the system update.
- Contact the dock maker’s support channel. Ask whether firmware for your precise model supports the system version installed on your console, and follow only instructions the maker provides for that model.
- Do not install firmware intended for another brand or model. The official Nintendo dock update procedure is not a third-party firmware procedure.

- The AC adapter and cable can be separated for easier storage.
- Connect the console to the official dock and connect the console to the internet.
- Confirm the console has the latest system update.
- On the console, open System Settings > System > Dock Update > Begin Update.
- If the dock update stops before completion, Nintendo says to try the update again.
What to check before buying a replacement or second dock
The 2025 reports are not a basis for ranking current products. Check the specific model and the terms that matter for your setup rather than relying on a broad “Switch 2 compatible” claim:
