The Sonic the Hedgehog Magic: The Gathering crossover includes three Secret Lair drops, but only one adds new-to-Magic cards. Friends & Foes contains seven new cards featuring Sonic and other characters; Turbo Gear and Chasing Adventure give Sonic-themed treatments to existing Magic cards.
What’s in the Sonic Secret Lair Superdrop?
Wizards of the Coast announced three products under the Secret Lair x Sonic banner: Friends & Foes, Turbo Gear, and Chasing Adventure. The official announcement described the drops as available at MagicSecretLair.com when it was published. Wizards’ Secret Lair: The Sonic Superdrop announcement is the primary source for the lineup and its original release details.
| Drop | What it contains | Why it may interest you |
|---|---|---|
| Friends & Foes | Seven new-to-Magic cards featuring Sonic, Shadow, Dr. Eggman, and other characters. | The choice for players looking for new Sonic-themed game pieces. |
| Turbo Gear | Sonic-themed versions of Magic gear and equipment; Wizards highlighted Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots. | A gear-focused art treatment, promoted as a pairing with Friends & Foes. |
| Chasing Adventure | Sonic-themed treatments of existing Magic staples, including Sol Ring. | The option centered on familiar cards with Sonic art. |
Which cards are new, and which are reprints?
Friends & Foes: seven new cards
Friends & Foes is the only drop the announcement describes as bringing new-to-Magic cards. Wizards said its seven cards bring Sonic, Shadow, Dr. Eggman, and the crew into Magic for the first time. Wizards stated that these cards are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage.
Turbo Gear and Chasing Adventure: themed treatments
Turbo Gear and Chasing Adventure are presented as Sonic-themed versions of existing Magic cards, rather than as the seven new-to-Magic cards. The first focuses on equipment and gear, while the second features staples such as Sol Ring. If your main interest is adding new cards to play, start with Friends & Foes; if you want Sonic-themed versions of established cards, look at the other two drops.

What release and availability details did Wizards announce?
Wizards’ announcement said the drops were available through MagicSecretLair.com at announcement time. It also said non-foil Friends & Foes copies would be available at WPN game stores on August 21. The announcement extract does not state a year, so that date should be read as a historical announcement detail, not a current or upcoming release schedule.
