In November 2024, Sonic X Shadow Generations producer Shun Nakamura reportedly said he would like the opportunity to remake Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). That was a personal wish shared during a fan Q&A, not an announcement that SEGA had started a remake. The project’s status after SEGA’s visible 2025 updates cannot be established from the available official information.
What did the producer say?
At a Sonic fan-meet Q&A in Jakarta, Indonesia, Nakamura was asked about revisiting older entries, including Sonic ’06, Sonic Heroes and Sonic Adventure. Nintendo Life and VICE reported that he expressed personal interest in remaking Sonic ’06. Push Square described his response as a personal wish for the opportunity and explicitly noted that no production project had been confirmed at the time.
These are reports of a fan-event answer, not an official SEGA project announcement or a verified transcript. The distinction matters: a producer’s interest does not establish that a remake has been approved, is in development, has platforms, or has a release date. Nintendo Life’s report, VICE’s coverage and Push Square’s account all date to November 2024.
Is a Sonic ’06 remake confirmed now?
The material available here does not establish whether SEGA announced a remake after its official Sonic X Shadow Generations page’s visible updates through 2025. That product page is not a comprehensive archive of all SEGA announcements, so it cannot prove that no later announcement exists. A current, definitive status should be checked against SEGA’s official news channels.

As of the November 2024 coverage, there was no confirmation of a project in production. No remake platforms, release window or other project details were established in those reports. Do not confuse Nakamura’s reported interest with a greenlight.
Which game does “Sonic ’06” mean?
“Sonic ’06” is fan shorthand for SEGA’s 2006 game formally titled SONIC THE HEDGEHOG. It is distinct from the original 1991 game, despite the shared formal title. SEGA’s franchise history identifies the 2006 entry as a 15th-anniversary release and lists PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as its original platforms. What’s available while fans wait?
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a separate game, not Sonic ’06 and not its remake. SEGA lists physical editions for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch; availability varies by platform and region. Its official product page is SEGA’s Sonic X Shadow Generations site.
SEGA’s franchise history documents the original game’s PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms, but that alone does not establish current resale inventory or regional availability. Fan-made projects are also separate from any official SEGA release; VICE’s coverage mentions Project 06, but it is not an announced SEGA remake.

Remake, remaster and re-release: what would the labels mean?
