To use item IDs in Sons of the Forest, type cheatstick during gameplay, press F1 to open the console, then run additem, spawnitem, or removeitem followed by a numeric ID or the item’s exact internal name. For example, additem 78 adds a log, while spawnitem guitar creates a guitar in the world. The command reference and your installed game build matter: some entries are disabled, restricted, removed, or mapped differently between builds.
What item IDs do in Sons of the Forest
An item ID is the numeric identifier assigned to an object in the game’s item table. The same table also gives each object an internal name, such as log, guitar, or modernaxe. The console accepts either form for the three main item commands, so you can use whichever is easier to verify against the current list.

IDs are useful when you need a specific resource, tool, weapon, attachment, or other object without searching the island. They do not turn every row in the item table into a working cheat. A row may be marked removed, disabled, not working, restricted after collection, or available only by name. Treat the maintained item table as the lookup authority for the build you are actually running, rather than relying on an undated list copied elsewhere.

Enable the console before entering an item command
Use the exact activation sequence
- Start or load a game and remain in active gameplay.
- Type
cheatstickon the keyboard. There is no visible text prompt or chat box that needs to be selected first; enter the word while you are playing. - Press F1. The developer console should appear.
- Type a command and its ID or internal name, then press Enter.
- Close the console and check the inventory or the nearby ground, depending on the command you used.
If F1 does nothing, first confirm that cheatstick was entered during gameplay rather than on a menu screen. On keyboards where the function row is assigned to media controls, use the keyboard’s function-key modifier so the game receives F1. A console that opens but rejects a command is a separate syntax, mapping, or build issue.

Decide where the result should appear
- Use
additemwhen the object should go directly into your inventory. - Use
spawnitemwhen you need a physical object created in the world. - Use
removeitemwhen you want to take a matching object out of your inventory.

Do not add brackets, quotation marks, or explanatory text. In the documented forms, the angle-bracket wording means that you replace it with one value. For instance, enter additem 78, not additem <78>, and enter spawnitem guitar, not spawnitem "guitar".
Numeric IDs and internal names
Numeric IDs are concise, but they are only useful when they match the table for your installed build. Internal names are readable and can be easier to check for spelling, but they must match the game’s mapping exactly: capitalization, spacing, and punctuation are not interchangeable. Names in the item table are generally compact forms such as shotgunrail and nightvisiongoggles, not the spaced display labels shown in menus.
When both forms are documented, try the numeric ID first with additem. For spawnitem, use the exact internal name if the numeric form fails. This distinction matters because the current-build cross-check describes spawnitem as following each item’s internal-name mapping more strictly than additem.

For an item not shown here, copy the ID or internal name exactly as it appears in the current table. Do not infer an ID from a neighboring row or from the order of items in your inventory.

How to add an item directly to your inventory
Using a numeric ID
Open the console and enter the command followed by the number. To add a log, use additem 78. To add the modern axe, use additem 356. Press Enter once, close the console, and check the appropriate inventory category.
Using an internal name
The name form is equivalent when the mapping is valid: additem log adds a log, and additem binoculars adds binoculars. Name syntax is particularly useful when a current table lists a usable name but no reliable numeric ID.

Confirming that it worked
An accepted command should produce an inventory change rather than a world object at your feet. If you cannot see the item immediately, search the relevant inventory section and check whether the game stacks that item with an existing quantity. Repeating a command without checking can create more copies than intended.
How to spawn an item in the world
spawnitem creates a physical object near the player instead of placing it directly in the inventory. For example, the documented guitar entry can be used as spawnitem 340 or, preferably when troubleshooting, spawnitem guitar.
World spawning is more sensitive to internal mappings. Start with the exact name in the current table, especially for tools, weapons, and attachments. Stand in a clear area before running the command so the object is not buried in terrain, inside a structure, or dropped where it cannot be reached. Some items may appear as a pickup while others may have placement or physics behavior that makes them difficult to locate.

How to remove an item
To remove one matching item from your inventory, use removeitem with the same ID or internal name used to add it. Examples are removeitem 78 for a log and removeitem modernaxe for the modern axe. Removal targets inventory contents; it does not delete an object that you previously spawned on the ground.

The separate removeallitems command clears nearly all inventory, but documented exceptions remain. Use it only when you have checked the current exception list and are prepared for items that may survive the cleanup. If you need a selective cleanup, remove individual entries instead of assuming this command produces an absolutely empty inventory.
Finding the right ID without guessing
- Open the maintained item table for the game version you are running.
- Search by the display label, then verify the row’s internal name and numeric ID.
- Check the row’s status for working, removed, disabled, restricted, or name-only behavior.
- Choose
additemfor an inventory result orspawnitemfor a world object. - Copy the value exactly, including compact names with no spaces.
- If the command fails, keep the row open while checking the build and trying the alternate identifier.
This process avoids a common mistake: finding a familiar item label on a list, then using an ID that belongs to a different build or a different internal object.
Why a spawnitem command fails
The console never opened
If typing the command appears to do nothing, repeat the activation sequence in a loaded game: type cheatstick, then press F1. Entering the word on the title screen or a pause menu does not provide the same console context. Also verify that your keyboard is sending a real F1 key rather than a media-function command.
The command is rejected immediately
Check the command spelling and remove any brackets, punctuation, or extra words. The accepted forms are additem, spawnitem, and removeitem, each followed by one ID or one internal name. A display name with spaces is not automatically a valid internal name.

The ID works with additem but not spawnitem
This is the most important mapping-specific failure. Use the exact internal name shown for the current build, such as spawnitem shotgun rather than spawnitem 358, then retry in an open location. The stricter spawnitem mapping can reject a numeric value that additem still accepts.
The item appears in the table but will not spawn
Check the row’s status. Some entries are removed, disabled, marked as not working, or have no usable ID. The wiki documentation also notes that some weapons, tools, and outfits cannot be spawned after they have already been collected. In that case, a failed command does not necessarily mean that your syntax is wrong; the object may be restricted by the game’s state.
The name looks right but still fails
Compare every character with the current row. Names such as nightvisiongoggles and shotgunrail use compact spelling, while the display labels may contain spaces. Do not substitute a nickname, plural form, or translated label. If the row offers a numeric ID, try it with additem to determine whether the problem is specific to world spawning.
The command worked before an update
Item mappings can change with the game build. A current-build cross-check identifies Steam build 20228174; use that number as a compatibility reference, not as a guarantee that every installation has the same table. Check for game updates, then consult the item table matching your installed build. Re-test both the ID and the internal name after an update.
Items that are restricted or unavailable
A long item list is not the same as a list of guaranteed cheats. The documented limitations fall into several groups:

- Collected-item restrictions: Some weapons, tools, and outfits cannot be spawned after the game records that you have collected them.
- Removed or disabled rows: An entry may remain visible for reference even though the corresponding object is no longer active in the current build.
- Not-working entries: The command may be recognized while producing no usable item.
- Name-only mappings: Some rows do not provide a usable numeric ID and must be addressed by internal name, if they work at all.
- World-placement limits: A successfully created object can be hard to see or interact with if it lands inside terrain or another structure.
Read the row’s status before troubleshooting your keyboard or reinstalling the game. The status explains whether a failure is expected behavior rather than a bad command.
Build compatibility and multiplayer caution
Console behavior is tied to the installed game build, not just the title shown in your library. A list made for another update may contain stale IDs, names, or status labels. When you update the game, recheck the item mapping before using a saved command list.
In multiplayer, treat console changes as session-affecting actions. Adding, spawning, or removing objects can alter shared progression, consume space, or create items that other players cannot use normally. Coordinate with the host and make a backup of an important save before experimenting.

If you want to run multiplayer on a hosted game server, Godlike.Host’s Sons of the Forest servers provide a game panel for server management. Its Sons of the Forest plans list 4, 12 and 20 slots; the server’s MaxPlayers setting allows 1 to 8 players (Steam Community server guide, 11 Oct 2026). The command reference establishes how the commands work; it does not promise that every multiplayer session will handle every item identically.
A reliable workflow for testing an ID
- Make a backup of the save if the world contains progress you cannot replace.
- Confirm the installed build and open the matching item table.
- Choose a low-risk test item, such as the documented log entry
78/log. - Activate the console with
cheatstickand F1. - Run
additemfirst if you only need to verify the mapping. - For a world object, use the exact internal name with
spawnitem. - Check the inventory or ground, then close the console before issuing another command.
- If it fails, compare the row status, retry the alternate identifier, and verify the build before changing anything else.
This sequence separates activation problems from item-mapping problems and prevents repeated commands from obscuring what actually worked.
