What did Sony show for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds at State of Play?
The February 12, 2025 State of Play included a new gameplay look at Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, as noted in PlayStation’s event recap. The game-specific PlayStation feature focused on Travel Rings, a mechanic that can send a race into another world and change the environment as the competition continues.
PlayStation also said Extreme Gear returns and that the game combines it with the Transform feature from the All-Stars Racing series. These are the mechanics highlighted in the official coverage; the reveal should not be taken as a demonstration of every feature in the finished game.
How do Travel Rings work?
In the official description, Travel Rings let a race shift into another world mid-event. In practical terms, the route and setting can change while racers are competing, rather than staying in one environment from start to finish. PlayStation presented the mechanic as a way to make races less predictable; that is the stated design aim, not an independent assessment of how it plays.

When did Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds come out?
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launched on September 25, 2025, for PS5 and PS4, according to the official PlayStation game listing. It is a released game, not an upcoming title. The PlayStation listing describes 24 tracks, 15 CrossWorlds, a roster of 23 Sonic characters, and local and online multiplayer.
Player counts and edition details can vary by platform. SEGA’s official game site lists local play for one to four players and online play for up to 12. It also says physical copies of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition would be available March 26, 2026. Check the relevant platform’s current listing for the edition and multiplayer details that apply to your copy.

What was the game’s reported sales milestone?
SEGA CORPORATION reported on October 23, 2025 that the game had sold more than one million units worldwide. The company said the figure includes physical units and digital downloads across platforms; it is a dated milestone, not a current lifetime sales total. SEGA’s release contains the announcement.
