Why did Sony raise PS5 prices?
Sony said the increases reflect “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of global marketing, wrote that the company made the decision after careful evaluation and described it as necessary to continue delivering gaming experiences. That is Sony’s stated rationale; the announcement does not break down costs or provide an independent analysis of the causes.

How much higher are U.S. PS5 prices?
Compared with Sony’s U.S. RRPs announced in August 2025, the March 2026 prices are $100 higher for PS5, $100 higher for PS5 Digital Edition and $150 higher for PS5 Pro. Sony’s August 2025 prices were $549.99, $499.99 and $749.99, respectively, effective August 21, 2025. This compares Sony’s published list prices, not the full range of retailer prices between announcements.
Sony’s 2025 announcement also said PS5 accessory prices in the U.S. were unchanged at that time. Separately, in April 2025, Sony announced selected-market price increases for PS5 Digital Edition in Europe and the U.K., and for standard and digital PS5 models in Australia and New Zealand, effective April 14; it also lowered Disc Drive RRPs in those listed regions. PS5 Pro RRPs were unchanged in that announcement. Those earlier changes were separate from the 2026 announcement.
