That is the company’s latest published hardware total—not a same-date count of consoles bought by consumers. The earlier “nears 60 million” framing is no longer current.
What Sony’s latest PS5 total measures
Sony’s business data page labels the cumulative figure as hardware sold-in. Sell-in counts units Sony has sold into the retail channel; it is distinct from sell-through, which counts purchases by consumers. Sony has not provided a comparable June 2026 consumer sell-through total in the cited data, so the two measures should not be treated as interchangeable.
The latest figure is worldwide and has a specific cutoff: more than 95 million units as of June 30, 2026. It is not a live counter or a report of sales since that date.
Recent PS5 sell-in figures
Sony’s fiscal year runs from April through March. Its reported figures show annual sell-in easing from FY2024 to FY2025, followed by 1.6 million units in the first quarter of FY2026:

| Period | Dates | PS5 units sold-in worldwide |
|---|---|---|
| FY2023 | April 2023–March 2024 | 20.8 million |
| FY2024 | April 2024–March 2025 | 18.5 million |
| FY2025 | April 2025–March 2026 | 16.0 million |
| FY2026 Q1 | April–June 2026 | 1.6 million |
These are Sony’s sell-in figures, not consumer purchase counts. The FY2026 Q1 number covers only April through June; it should not be projected as a full-year total.
How the new figure compares with the 50 million milestone
In a December 2023 announcement, Sony said PS5 had passed 50 million units sold through to consumers worldwide as of December 9, 2023. That was a consumer sell-through milestone. The newer figure—more than 95 million—is a sell-in total as of June 30, 2026. Because the measures and dates differ, subtracting one from the other would not give a like-for-like growth total.

The 2023 announcement also included a statement from Jim Ryan, then President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment: “Achieving this PS5 sales milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the global PlayStation community and their passion for the incredible experiences created by the talented developers from PlayStation Studios and our partners.” The quote referred to the 50 million consumer milestone, not Sony’s current sell-in figure.

Sony separately estimates 125 million PlayStation monthly active users as of June 30, 2026. That figure measures users across the PlayStation platform; it is not a count of PS5 consoles sold and should not be used as a sales proxy.
