Sony’s 65-million PlayStation 5 milestone has been surpassed. The latest official total in Sony’s FY2026 Q1 supplemental information is 93.7 million cumulative PS5 hardware units as of March 31, 2026. That is a sell-in figure—units shipped into the retail and distribution channel—not a count of consoles confirmed as purchased by consumers.
How many PS5 consoles has Sony sold?
Sony Group Corporation reported 93.7 million cumulative PS5 hardware sell-in units as of March 31, 2026, in its FY2026 Q1 supplemental information, dated July 31, 2026. The total is global and covers PS5 hardware. Sony’s earnings archive lists the company’s quarterly results materials.
Does Sony’s total mean customers bought that many consoles?
No. Sony’s report says, “Hardware units are disclosed on a sell-in basis.” Sell-in refers to units shipped into the retail and distribution channel; it is distinct from sell-through, which measures units sold to customers. The 93.7-million figure therefore should not be described as an audited count of consumer purchases.
What happened to the 65-million milestone?
It is an older threshold, not Sony’s current official total in the cited reporting. Sony’s FY2024 Corporate Report recorded 61.7 million cumulative PS5 units as of June 30, 2024, and identified the figure as sell-in. Sony’s later 93.7-million total is also sell-in, so the dated figures provide a like-for-like view of reported cumulative hardware shipments. The official material cited here does not establish the exact date the total passed 65 million.

How to compare PS5 sales figures
Check the date, measurement, geography and product scope before comparing totals. Sony’s figures here are global cumulative PS5 hardware sell-in units; a third-party estimate of consumer purchases may use sell-through instead and should not be treated as the same metric.
