Spintires: MudRunner is for players who enjoy careful, tactical driving more than speed. Its central challenge is getting heavy vehicles through mud, rivers, and other difficult terrain while navigating and managing recovery; it is not a conventional racing game. Steam’s user reviews are strongly positive, but that rating is not a professional critics’ score.
What kind of game is Spintires: MudRunner?
Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment, MudRunner launched on 30 October 2017. Focus announced the initial PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One release on 27 October 2017. The game asks you to drive all-terrain vehicles across difficult landscapes to complete objectives and deliveries. Mud, rivers, and obstacles respond to vehicle weight and movement, so choosing a route and managing the vehicle matter as much as steering. Navigation and recovery are part of the challenge
You rely on a map and compass rather than treating the landscape as a simple track. A winch can help recover a vehicle, but getting stuck or choosing an awkward route remains part of the problem to solve. The appeal is reading terrain, planning movement, and making deliveries despite obstacles—not chasing lap times.
What do the reviews say?

That user response fits the game’s focused appeal: deliberate terrain traversal and vehicle management. It is less likely to suit someone looking primarily for high-speed racing. What is included in American Wilds Edition?
Focus’s American Wilds Edition page describes more than 30 vehicles, 60 add-ons, 10 sandbox maps, and 11 challenge maps, and says the edition includes the previously released Ridge and Valley DLCs. Steam also lists an American Wilds package containing the base game and American Wilds, Ridge, and Valley content; Old-timers DLC appears separately on the Steam listing. Check the exact platform bundle
The original launch announcement names PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Focus’s American Wilds page lists Xbox One, PC, PS4, and Switch. Edition availability and included content can vary by storefront and region, so confirm the current listing for your platform rather than assuming a bundle matches another platform’s version.
Can you play solo, in co-op, or with mods?
Steam lists solo play and online cooperative play, and its product description says you can join up to three other players. The Steam feature panel also lists cross-platform multiplayer, Steam Workshop support, and community mods. Those are Steam-listed features; availability and implementation may differ on console storefronts, so check the relevant platform page if co-op or mods are essential to your purchase. Does MudRunner support controllers and steering wheels?
Steam lists full controller support and names an Xbox controller for Windows in the PC requirements. The same listing specifically confirms Logitech G25 and G27 steering-wheel support; it says other wheel models have not been tested. Do not treat that as confirmation that any other wheel works. Steam’s stated PC requirements are for the original game, and its legacy operating-system text is not a guarantee of current compatibility. Steam separately notes that its client supports Windows 10 and later as of 1 January 2024. Check the game and client requirements for your current PC setup on the Steam listing.
