The program can't start because sqlite.dll is missing from your computer.
Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
The code execution cannot proceed because sqlite.dll was not found.
Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
There was a problem starting sqlite.dll.
The specified module could not be found.
sqlite.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
Error status 0xc000012f.
The wording varies by Windows version and application. The important point is that sqlite.dll is usually an application file, not a universal Windows component.

The 60-second answer
Repair the specific program that produced the message. If it is a game, use the launcher’s Verify or Scan-and-repair command. If it is a desktop application, use Windows Repair, then reinstall that application from its official developer installer if necessary.
Do not download a random sqlite.dll, rename sqlite3.dll, or copy anything into C:WindowsSystem32. Different applications can use different builds, architectures, compile-time options, and dependencies under the same filename.

If the message says sqlite3.dll, winsqlite3.dll, SQLite.Interop.dll, or e_sqlite3.dll, follow the same ownership-first approach, but do not treat those names as interchangeable with sqlite.dll.
Why there is no universal sqlite.dll
SQLite is an embedded database library. Its official Windows distributions normally use the name sqlite3.dll, while Windows has a separate system library named winsqlite3.dll used by some applications.
A file named sqlite.dll is commonly bundled privately with another program. QGIS, Siemens engineering software, Tencent-related software, games, launchers, and .NET applications can all have application-specific SQLite files. That does not mean every file with this name belongs to the same publisher.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Some third-party file listings show 32-bit builds with metadata such as 11.0.0.379, 10.1.15.11, 10.1.7.27, 1.0.0.1, or 0.0.0.0. Those numbers cannot identify the owner or prove that one build is compatible with your application.
First, identify the program and the file path
The executable that displays the error is the most useful clue.
- Note the application name in the error window or title bar.
- Check whether the failure began after an application update, interrupted installation, disk cleanup, antivirus action, system restore, or malware cleanup.
- Right-click the application shortcut and choose Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read the Target field. This identifies the executable and often shows its installation directory.
- In File Explorer, search the application’s folder for
sqlite.dll. - If a copy exists, right-click it, choose Properties, and inspect Location, Details, and Digital Signatures.
A plausible path is normally beneath the affected application’s installation directory, such as its program folder or a private runtime subfolder. A copy in a temporary folder, Downloads, an unrelated user-profile directory, or an unexpected shared folder deserves additional investigation.
Also check the exact filename. sqlite.dll is different from sqlite3.dll, winsqlite3.dll, SQLite.Interop.dll, and e_sqlite3.dll.

Fix 1: Repair or verify the owning application
This is the safest and most likely fix when only one program fails.
Windows 11 packaged or registered apps
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
Repair normally preserves application data. If Repair is unavailable or does not help, use Reset only after checking what data the application stores locally, because Reset can remove app data.
Classic desktop programs
- Press Win+R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
If there is no Repair option, download the installer from the application developer’s official website or use the original installation media. Choose the same edition and architecture where the installer provides that choice. Uninstalling first may remove settings or application data, so back up important project files, profiles, saves, and databases before doing so.
Games and launchers
Use the launcher’s own file verification feature. In Epic Games Launcher:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open Library.
- Select the three dots beside the game.
- Choose Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Wait for the scan and replacement process to finish.
- Start the game from the launcher.
Other launchers use names such as Verify files, Repair, or Scan and repair. This is preferable to downloading an individual DLL because the launcher can restore the matching file set.
The fix worked if the program starts without the SQLite message and does not immediately report another missing file. If the same error returns, check antivirus history and then perform a clean reinstall from the official source.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an application DLL after an update or a change in detection rules.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
sqlite.dllor the affected application. - Expand the event and inspect the file path, detection name, publisher, and action.
Restore a quarantined file only when all of these are consistent:
- The file belongs to the application you intended to install.
- The path is the application’s normal installation directory.
- The application came from its official developer or a trusted launcher.
- The publisher and digital signature are plausible.
If the file came from a download, temporary folder, or unknown location, do not restore it. Remove the application and reinstall it from the official source instead. A familiar filename does not make an untrusted DLL safe.
Fix 3: Match the application architecture
A 32-bit application needs a compatible 32-bit DLL, even when Windows itself is 64-bit. A 64-bit DLL cannot replace a 32-bit application’s private library.
To check the application:
- Right-click its executable or shortcut and choose Properties.
- Look for architecture information in the application’s documentation or installer.
- If the program includes an
x86,x64, orARM64folder, do not mix files between them. - Check whether the application recently received files from two different releases.
Do not choose the newest DLL merely because its version appears higher. An older vendor build may be the correct one for that application, while a newer or differently compiled build can produce:
- “Not designed to run on Windows”
- Missing entry-point errors
- Immediate crashes
- A new error naming another dependency
Windows uses different handling for 32-bit and 64-bit program files through WOW64 redirection. That is another reason not to copy application DLLs into System32 or SysWOW64.
Fix 4: Find a missing dependency
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that sqlite.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found sqlite.dll but failed to load one of its dependent runtime files.
A diagnostic utility from the application vendor or a trusted internal support process may identify the dependency. Pay attention to names such as:
Rank #2
- STREAMLINED & INTUITIVE UI, DVD FORMAT | Intelligent desktop | Personalize your experience for simpler efficiency | Powerful security built-in and enabled.
- OEM IS TO BE INSTALLED ON A NEW PC with no prior version of Windows installed and cannot be transferred to another machine.
- OEM DOES NOT PROVIDE SUPPORT | To acquire product with Microsoft support, obtain the full packaged “Retail” version.
- PRODUCT SHIPS IN PLAIN ENVELOPE | Activation key is located under scratch-off area on label.
- GENUINE WINDOWS SOFTWARE IS BRANDED BY MIRCOSOFT ONLY.
MSVCR90.dllVCRUNTIME140.dllMSVCP140.dll
If the application specifically requires the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, install the official Microsoft package matching the application architecture. Microsoft provides vc_redist.x86.exe, vc_redist.x64.exe, and vc_redist.arm64.exe. A 32-bit application generally requires the x86 package, even on 64-bit Windows.
For an old application that explicitly requires the version-9 runtime, use Microsoft’s Visual C++ 2008 SP1 redistributable rather than guessing with a newer package.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not install Visual C++ merely because sqlite.dll appears in the message. The redistributable is relevant when the diagnostic names a missing runtime or the application documentation requires it.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components when Windows itself is damaged
SFC and DISM are not normal replacements for an application-private sqlite.dll. Use them when Windows components also fail, several unrelated programs are affected, or the problem began with broader system corruption.
First install pending updates:
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then repair the component store:
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- When it finishes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the application again.
Microsoft specifies running DISM before SFC. SFC repairs protected Windows system files; it will not normally restore a vendor’s private sqlite.dll.
If repeatedly hunting through Windows versions and rerunning SFC/DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems; its free scan shows what it found, while repair is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix when that application owns sqlite.dll.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after an application installation, update, driver change, or other system change.
- Press Win+R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Choose Next.
- Select a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the applications and drivers that will change.
- Choose Finish to confirm.
System Restore changes system files, registry settings, and installed programs, but it does not normally affect personal files. If the restore does not help, repair or reinstall the application that owns the DLL rather than copying a replacement from another computer.
Fix 7: Update a driver only when the affected software requires it
A graphics driver reinstall is not a general SQLite fix. Consider drivers only when the failing program is itself a driver package, hardware utility, database appliance tool, or software whose vendor identifies a driver installation failure.
For a normal application or game, use its installer first. If a driver is genuinely implicated:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category.
- Right-click the device and choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and record the provider and version.
- Use Update Driver, or obtain the correct package from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
Manually identifying which of many drivers is stale can be tedious, especially when the SQLite error is only a secondary symptom. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show driver findings; the full version performs the driver installation. Use it only as an optional aid, and follow the application vendor’s repair instructions when the file belongs to a specific program.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not run:
regsvr32 sqlite.dll
SQLite is normally a runtime library, not a COM or ActiveX component. regsvr32 expects the DLL to export DllRegisterServer; ordinary SQLite runtime files generally do not. The command can produce another error without repairing the application.
Manual copying is appropriate only when the application vendor supplies the exact DLL or you are restoring the original installer package. Put it in the application’s own directory, with the correct architecture and build. Never rename sqlite3.dll to sqlite.dll unless the application developer explicitly documents that arrangement.
If the error still will not go away
Record these details before contacting the application vendor:
- The complete error text and error code
- The failing executable’s full path
- The DLL’s full path, if it exists
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- The exact filename named by the error
- The file’s publisher and digital signature
- Recent updates, antivirus actions, cleanups, or restores
- Whether one application or many unrelated applications fail
If only one vendor application fails, that vendor must identify the correct build. Windows cannot know which of many incompatible files named sqlite.dll the program requires.
If many unrelated programs fail, prioritize malware scanning, Windows Update, DISM and SFC, and System Restore. Test with a new Windows user profile if permissions or damaged application data may be involved.
FAQ
Is sqlite.dll a Windows system file?
Usually no. It is generally installed privately by a third-party application. Windows has a separate library named winsqlite3.dll.
Can I download sqlite.dll from the internet?
Avoid random DLL download sites. The file may contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to another product, or fail because a dependency is missing. Use the affected application’s official installer, Repair command, or launcher verification.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I copy sqlite.dll into System32?
No. That can create conflicts and security exposure. Restore the file to the owning application’s directory through its installer.
Is the newest sqlite.dll the best one?
No. There is no universal version. The correct build is the one supplied for the specific application and architecture.
Will installing Visual C++ fix it?
Only when a missing Visual C++ runtime is identified or required by the application. It is not the default fix for every sqlite.dll error.
Should I run regsvr32?
Normally no. SQLite runtime DLLs are not usually self-registering components. Repair or reinstall the application instead.
