ssce5564.dll Errors: Restore the Right App Files Safely

ssce5564.dll is a 64-bit Wintertree Sentry Spelling-Checker Engine file, and it normally belongs beside the application that uses it. The safest fix is to identify that application, then repair, verify, or reinstall it from its official installer or launcher rather than downloading a replacement DLL.

What this file actually does

ssce5564.dll is an application component from Wintertree Software’s Sentry spelling-checking engine. Programs can bundle the engine to provide spell-checking and related text-processing features.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

It is not a Windows system DLL, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, device driver, or .NET component. It was introduced as the 64-bit Sentry Windows DLL, so a 64-bit application may expect this exact filename.

Real software associated with this file includes:

  • Fallout 4 Creation Kit
  • Starfield Creation Kit
  • The Bat. email client
  • MindManager
  • Other applications that bundled Wintertree’s spell checker

The program named in your error is more important than the DLL name. There is no single universal installer for ssce5564.dll; the correct copy is normally distributed with the parent application.

A second DLL is also missing The installation is incomplete rather than suffering from one isolated file Verify or reinstall the entire program

Fix 1: Repair the application that installed the DLL

Do this before trying Windows repair commands or downloading anything.

For a Microsoft Store application

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Choose Installed apps.
  4. Find the affected application.
  5. Select the three-dot menu beside it.
  6. Choose Advanced options.
  7. Select Repair.
  8. Start the application again.

Windows repairs the application without normally removing its data. If the error remains, return to the same screen and select Reset only if you understand that the application’s local data or settings may be removed.

For traditional desktop software

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Find the affected program in Programs and Features.
  4. Right-click it.
  5. Choose Repair or Change, if available.
  6. Follow the installer’s instructions.
  7. Restart Windows and test the program.

If there is no repair option, uninstall the application and reinstall it from the original vendor, official launcher, installation media, or managed software portal. Do not uninstall first if you no longer have access to the installer or product credentials.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to confirm the result

The repair worked if the program starts without the ssce5564.dll message and its normal spell-checking features work. If a different DLL error appears, record the complete new message. It may identify another missing dependency rather than indicate that the first repair failed.

Fix 2: Verify Creation Kit files through Steam

Creation Kit installations are a common source of this error. Bethesda’s recommended process is to verify the Steam files and, when necessary, reinstall the game and Creation Kit in the same intended library or directory.

  1. Open Steam.
  2. Select Library.
  3. Right-click the affected game or Creation Kit entry.
  4. Choose Properties.
  5. Select Installed Files.
  6. Choose Verify integrity of game files.
  7. Wait for Steam to complete the check.
  8. Start the Creation Kit again.

If Steam reports that configuration files could not be verified, that result can be normal. Focus on whether the relevant executable and DLL files were restored.

If verification does not repair the error:

  1. Close Steam.
  2. Uninstall the Creation Kit.
  3. Verify the base game files.
  4. Install the base game before reinstalling the Creation Kit.
  5. Install both products in the intended Steam library or directory.
  6. Run verification again after installation.

A Starfield Creation Kit error may mention another file, such as sl.interposer.dll, at the same time. That points toward an incomplete, damaged, or incorrectly located installation, not necessarily a problem with ssce5564.dll alone.

Fix 3: Check the application directory and architecture

The normal location for ssce5564.dll is the folder containing the application’s executable. It should not normally be placed in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

To inspect the program folder:

  1. Find the application shortcut.
  2. Right-click it.
  3. Select Open file location.
  4. If this opens a shortcut folder, right-click the shortcut again and choose Open file location.
  5. Look for the application’s .exe and ssce5564.dll in the same installation tree.

Do not assume that 64-bit Windows requires every application to use 64-bit files. The application’s architecture matters.

  • ssce5564.dll is the 64-bit Sentry DLL.
  • Older or 32-bit applications may use ssce5532.dll.
  • The two files are not interchangeable.
  • Do not copy a different Sentry DLL over an existing application file.

Wintertree changed DLL names when API compatibility changed, so replacing a missing file with a different release can create a new incompatibility even when the filename appears similar.

To check an executable’s architecture, use the application’s official documentation or a trusted inspection tool supplied by your organization. If you are unsure, reinstall the complete application rather than guessing which DLL variant it needs.

Fix 4: Check Windows Security Protection history

Antivirus software may quarantine or remove an application DLL. A detection does not prove that the file is malicious or that it is a false positive. Check its source, signature, and security result before restoring it.

  1. Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Choose Protection history.
  4. Find the event involving ssce5564.dll.
  5. Expand it and review the detected path and action.
  6. Confirm that the path belongs to the application you installed.
  7. If the file came from the official installer and its publisher information is credible, follow your security software’s documented restore or allow process.
  8. Run another scan before launching the application.

Do not restore a DLL merely because its filename matches the error. If it came from an unofficial download or an unexpected folder, leave it quarantined and reinstall the parent application from its official source.

Fix 5: Reinstall the application’s required runtime only when named

ssce5564.dll is not the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Installing Visual C++ will not recreate it. Install the official Microsoft x64 or x86 Visual C++ package only when the error separately identifies a dependency such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll.

Likewise, DirectX and the .NET Desktop Runtime are not replacements for this Wintertree DLL. Install them only when the application’s requirements or a separate error specifically calls for them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not use Windows Features to search for ssce5564.dll. That panel enables Windows components such as .NET Framework features, but it does not install this application-specific file.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components if several programs are failing

Because ssce5564.dll is a third-party application file, SFC and DISM are not the first-line repair. Use them when multiple unrelated programs show system-file errors or Windows itself is behaving incorrectly.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for it to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Try the affected application again.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. These commands repair Windows components; they do not normally supply a missing Wintertree DLL. If the application still reports the same error, return to its repair or reinstall process.

When manually tracking Windows corruption across repeated scans is taking longer than expected, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system issues and show what needs attention; repairs are performed by the full version. Reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when its own DLL is missing.

Fix 7: Consider System Restore after a recent change

Use System Restore only when the error began immediately after a Windows update, driver installation, or software change and the earlier restore point is known to predate the problem.

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type rstrui.exe.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Choose a restore point from before the failure.
  6. Select Next, then Finish.
  7. Allow Windows to restart.

System Restore rolls back system files, settings, and installed programs but does not normally remove personal files. It may not restore a third-party DLL if the application installation itself is damaged, so reinstall the parent application if the error remains.

Fix 8: Update or reinstall drivers only for a driver-specific failure

A device driver is not the normal cause of ssce5564.dll being missing. Do not use Device Manager as the first repair for this error. Consider it only if the application also reports graphics, audio, display, or hardware initialization failures.

To check a driver:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters.
  4. Right-click the device.
  5. Select Update driver.
  6. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart Windows if a driver is installed.

For a clean reinstall, right-click the device, choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and then install the driver from the hardware manufacturer or computer manufacturer. Do not remove a device unless you have a recovery path.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When identifying stale drivers manually means checking many devices and matching versions, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show reported driver issues; driver installation is performed by the full version. A driver utility will not replace the application’s missing Wintertree DLL, so repair the affected program as well.

Avoid random DLL downloads and regsvr32

Do not download ssce5564.dll from a random DLL website. The file may contain malware, belong to the wrong application, use the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture, or come from an incompatible Sentry API generation. It may also leave the damaged parent installation unresolved.

Safe sources are:

  • The application’s official installer or launcher
  • Steam file verification for Steam software
  • A verified backup made from the same application installation
  • An enterprise software package approved by your organization
  • A licensed Wintertree SDK installer or official support package for developers using that SDK

regsvr32 is not a repair for this file. Wintertree’s Sentry DLL does not require registration, and running this command is not appropriate:

regsvr32 ssce5564.dll

It may produce a missing DllRegisterServer entry-point error. Keep the DLL beside the application that loads it instead of registering it globally.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the error still remains

Collect these details before contacting the application publisher:

  • Exact application name and version
  • Full error text
  • Windows version and whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
  • Whether ssce5564.dll exists beside the executable
  • The application’s installation path
  • Windows Security Protection history result
  • File publisher or digital-signature information
  • Whether the program came from Steam, an enterprise installer, or an older standalone installer
  • Any other missing DLL named in the message

If the file exists but Windows still reports that it cannot load it, the problem may be a missing dependency, damaged binary, wrong architecture, or mismatched application files. Reinstall the complete application before attempting advanced dependency analysis.

FAQ

Is ssce5564.dll a Windows file?

No. It is a third-party Wintertree Sentry spelling-checker component normally deployed with an application.

Can I copy it into System32?

No. That is not the normal deployment method and can create version conflicts. Restore it to the application’s own directory through the application installer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is ssce5564.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?

It is the 64-bit Sentry DLL. A 32-bit application may require ssce5532.dll instead.

Will Visual C++ fix this error?

Not by itself. Visual C++ supplies Microsoft runtime files, not ssce5564.dll. Install it only if a separate error names a Visual C++ dependency.

Should I register the DLL?

No. This Sentry DLL does not need regsvr32 registration.

What is the safest fix for Creation Kit?

Verify the relevant Steam files. If that fails, reinstall the base game and Creation Kit in the intended Steam library or directory, with the base game installed first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is an antivirus detection automatically a false positive?

No. Verify the file’s source, path, signature, and security result before deciding whether restoration is safe.
