sscrmgr2.dll is an application file, not a normal Windows component. When Windows reports that sscrmgr2.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, the safest fix is usually to repair or reinstall the DVDVideoSoft or Free Studio application that originally installed it.
Public file metadata describes sscrmgr2.dll as a “License manager module” associated with Digital Wave Ltd. It has been found in applications including Free YouTube Download and Free Audio Converter. That makes this an app-repair problem first, not a reason to copy a DLL into System32.

Identify the application that needs sscrmgr2.dll
Start with the error window. Windows often names the executable or program immediately before reporting the missing DLL. If the message appears when you launch a shortcut, right-click that shortcut, select Properties, and check the Target field.
Then check the installed applications list:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for DVDVideoSoft, Free Studio, Free YouTube Download, Free Audio Converter, or another multimedia application you recognize.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
On Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features instead. You can also press Windows + R, enter appwiz.cpl, and press Enter to open Programs and Features.

If only one application fails, repair that application rather than running Windows-wide repairs. If the message appears during startup after you already removed the program, an orphaned startup entry may still be trying to launch it.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the original application
This is the most likely solution.
Try the built-in repair option
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the DVDVideoSoft or Free Studio program.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Launch the application again.
The repair is successful if the program opens without the sscrmgr2.dll message. If the error remains, return to the same screen and choose Reset only if you are prepared for the application to lose its settings or local data.
Some desktop programs do not expose a Windows repair button. In that case, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select the program, and look for Repair or Change.
Perform a clean reinstall
If repair is unavailable or unsuccessful:
- Save any files or custom settings stored by the application.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the program’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the program’s installer from its official publisher source or use a known-good installer you already own.
- Install the application using the recommended folder and options.
- Restart Windows again if the installer requests it.
- Launch the program from its new shortcut.
Use the installer intended for the affected application. Do not copy sscrmgr2.dll from another Free Studio product or from a different release. A clean reinstall restores the DLL together with the program files and licensing components it expects.
If the original program has been discontinued, use a trusted backup or original installer. Do not replace the missing file with a loose download from an unknown source.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an application DLL. A missing file after a security scan, update, disk cleanup, or program launch is a reason to check the quarantine history.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
sscrmgr2.dll. - Expand the detection and note the full file path, detection name, publisher information, and parent application.
Do not restore the file solely because the filename appears in the error. If the file was inside an unofficial installer, had no trustworthy publisher information, or was detected as part of a bundled download, leave it quarantined and remove the application.

If the file belonged to a trusted installation, the safer approach is still to reinstall the application from its official source. Restore or allow the file only after verifying the application and installer. Microsoft explains these decisions in its Protection History guidance.
Fix 3: Match the application architecture
Public metadata reports sscrmgr2.dll as a 32-bit file. That fits older 32-bit multimedia applications, even when they run on 64-bit Windows.
A 32-bit application normally installs under a path such as:
C:Program Files (x86)
A 64-bit application normally installs under:
C:Program Files
These folders alone do not prove which architecture is correct, but they can help locate the owning program. Do not download a 64-bit replacement for a 32-bit application. Do not manually move a DLL between System32 and SysWOW64. Those folders serve different Windows architectures, and placing an application-private DLL there can create conflicts without fixing the program’s intended load path.

Uninstall the affected program, restart Windows, and reinstall the correct application version instead of replacing only the DLL.
Fix 4: Install a missing Microsoft runtime only when named
Some older DVDVideoSoft applications may rely on Microsoft Visual C++ runtime files. That does not prove that Visual C++ caused the sscrmgr2.dll error.
Check the complete error message. If it separately names a file such as msvcr120.dll or msvcp120.dll, install the matching Microsoft runtime from an official Microsoft source. A 32-bit application generally needs the x86 package, even on 64-bit Windows.

Use Microsoft’s Visual C++ 2013 download when the application specifically requires that release. For newer applications, use Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ Redistributable packages.
After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the affected program.
- If
sscrmgr2.dllis still missing, repair or reinstall the application.
Do not install Visual C++ packages merely because a DLL error exists. They do not recreate an application-local licensing DLL.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall the application, not unrelated drivers
A failed application update can leave an incomplete dependency set. Check the publisher’s official application update or installer source, then install the release intended for your Windows version and the affected program.
Device Manager is relevant only if the failing program also reports a genuine hardware or graphics-driver problem:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or the category named by the application.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not expect a graphics or sound driver update to recreate sscrmgr2.dll. The application reinstall remains the definitive fix for this file.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components only for broader Windows problems
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They normally do not recreate a third-party DLL installed in an application’s private folder.

- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.

If SFC reports that it repaired files but the same application still reports sscrmgr2.dll, return to the application repair path. If DISM or SFC reports errors it cannot repair, install pending Windows updates and run the commands again. Do not copy the DLL into a Windows system folder afterward.

Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after a cleanup utility, installation, update, or other system change.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point and select Finish.
- Restart Windows.
System Restore does not replace a proper application reinstall, and it may not be available. Microsoft provides additional information in its System Restore guidance.

Do not download a loose DLL from a random website
A standalone download can contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to another application release, or fail because other files are also missing. It can also conceal the real cause, such as an incomplete uninstall or antivirus quarantine.
Use the original application’s official installer or a known-good backup instead. There is no verified current official standalone download for sscrmgr2.dll.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
The file appears to be application-local. Windows does not need it in either system directory, and copying it there can cause version conflicts. Restore it to the application’s own directory only through a trusted application repair or reinstall.

Do not run regsvr32 as a general fix
Do not use:
regsvr32 sscrmgr2.dll
unless the application publisher specifically instructs you to register this file. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM or ActiveX components. A licensing support DLL may not provide that entry point. Microsoft describes the tool and its failure conditions in its regsvr32 documentation.

Check these details before taking further action:
- The exact executable named in the error.
- The full installation path of that executable.
- Whether
sscrmgr2.dllexists in the same application folder. - Windows Security’s Protection History.
- Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application for entries at the failure time.
- Whether the installer completed without errors.
- Whether the application is 32-bit and whether you installed the intended release.
- Whether several unrelated applications are reporting missing DLLs.
If multiple programs suddenly lose DLLs, scan for malware, check disk health, and investigate recent cleanup software. If only one DVDVideoSoft program fails, Windows-wide repair is less likely to help than a clean reinstall.
