That surpassed the previous Steam peak at the time, but it is no longer the game’s record: SteamDB lists a later all-time Steam peak of 35,892 concurrent players on June 22, 2025. Neither figure represents players across every platform.
What the headline’s player-count milestone means
The May 2025 milestone refers to simultaneous players on Steam, not the total number of people playing Star Wars Battlefront II across PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Reporting put the May surge at nearly 19,000 concurrent Steam players around a community play call on May 24. It exceeded the earlier Steam record at that point, but the reported figure is approximate.

The game is the 2017 release developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, not the separate 2005 game that shares the Star Wars Battlefront II name. It was released for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and includes both single-player and multiplayer modes.
How the May surge compares with the later Steam record
| Measure | Value | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| May 2025 resurgence | Nearly 19,000 concurrent players | Approximate Steam count reported around the May 24, 2025 community play event; above the earlier Steam peak at that time. |
| Steam all-time peak | 35,892 concurrent players | SteamDB’s observed Steam peak, reached June 22, 2025; not an all-platform total. |
The distinction matters: the May event was a notable record-breaking moment as reported at the time, while SteamDB’s later chart shows that the game drew a larger Steam audience in June. A concurrent-player peak counts people playing at the same time; it does not measure owners, monthly active users or lifetime sales.

- A new hero, a story untold in an emotionally gripping new Star Wars campaign that spans over 30 years
- The ultimate battleground
- Galactic scale space combat: Space combat has been designed for Star Wars Battlefront II from the ground up with distinct handling, weapons and customization options
- Battery: No battery used
Why did players return in May 2025?
Several events overlapped with the renewed interest: the game’s inclusion in the Game Pass catalogue, the final season of Andor, the twentieth-anniversary re-release of Revenge of the Sith and a Star Wars-themed Fortnite season. The available reporting does not separate their effects or establish how many players each event brought in, so they are best understood as coinciding sources of attention rather than a measured cause.
How many people are playing Battlefront 2 right now?
There is no verified all-platform live player total in the cited figures. SteamDB’s chart measures Steam activity; it does not include people playing through the EA app, Xbox or PlayStation. Third-party trackers may publish estimates, but those should not be presented as an official combined count or treated as directly interchangeable with Steam’s concurrent-player data.

For additional context, PureGameStats reported a September 2026 Steam average of 975 concurrent players and a monthly peak of 1,900. Those are tracker figures for Steam, not a real-time reading or a count across all platforms. Player levels fluctuate, so neither figure establishes how many people are online at this moment.

The Steam peaks demonstrate that the game attracted substantial renewed attention in 2025, while the later tracker figures show continuing Steam activity in September 2026. They do not establish current activity across every platform, nor do they guarantee matchmaking availability in a particular region, mode or time slot. If you are deciding whether to play, check activity on your own platform and preferred mode rather than relying on a Steam-wide peak as a proxy for every lobby.

- Platform: A Steam chart covers Steam, not EA app, Xbox or PlayStation.
- Measure: Concurrent players are simultaneous users, not owners, monthly active players or sales.
- Timing: The near-19,000 May surge and June 22 Steam record describe different moments.
- Attribution: Multiple Star Wars-related events overlapped with the May surge, but their individual contributions are not quantified.
