Individual players described the experience as “mandatory stealth” and “trash,” but those posts do not establish how widely the view was shared. Ubisoft later acknowledged that restrictive objectives and detection that felt unpredictable could make quests frustrating or unfair, and its 2024 updates gave players more room to recover from detection.
What players were objecting to
The complaint was about the consequences of being spotted, not simply the presence of stealth. In some early quests, objectives such as “Do not raise the alarm” or “Do not get caught” could turn detection into an automatic failure and a return to the last checkpoint. That made a stealth approach feel compulsory even though the game was also advertised around blaster combat, gadgets, and stealth. StarWars.com’s description presents those as different ways to handle situations, but that general pitch does not mean every mission allowed every approach.

Search-result snippets from individual Reddit posts used phrases including “mandatory stealth SUCKS” and “forced stealth.” They are examples of player language, not a representative survey. No attributable statistic in the available sources measures what share of players disliked these missions.
Why the early Mirogana mission drew criticism
In a September 9, 2024 report, Kotaku said players were struggling with early stealth sections and quoted creative director Julian Gerighty discussing an early Mirogana mission. Gerighty called it “incredibly punishing” and said its difficulty was “a mistake.” Those are his reported comments, not a measured assessment of the game as a whole. Kotaku’s report gives the launch-era criticism a concrete example: a mission’s failure conditions could make a mistake feel like a forced restart rather than a chance to adapt.

How Ubisoft changed stealth and failure rules
October 24, 2024: Title Update 1.3.0
Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.3.0 notes say stealth changes were made to “False Flag” and other missions to give players more flexibility without the risk of failing. The notes also describe increased quest checkpoints and additional manual- and autosave opportunities in compounds and syndicate territories. These changes addressed both the risk of a stealth mistake and the cost of losing progress.
November 20–21, 2024: fewer forced failures and clearer choices
In a November 20 developer update, creative director Drew Rechner acknowledged that restrictive quest rules could force stealth and make some quests frustrating or unfair. He also said detection could feel unpredictable and inconsistent. The update said that, in almost all quest objectives, detection during a stealth approach would no longer automatically fail the objective and reset Kay to the last checkpoint; instead, the situation could continue into combat. Read Ubisoft’s November 20 developer update for the stated change.

The following day, Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.4.0 notes described more choice in syndicate territories, including the option to use stealth or reach for the blaster, and improved detection cues. The dated update notes matter: a player describing a launch-era mission may be talking about a different failure experience from someone playing after these changes.

What the complaint gets right—and what it leaves out
- It points to a real design problem: Ubisoft itself said that certain quest restrictions pushed players into stealth and that detection could feel inconsistent.
- It is not evidence of a majority opinion: individual social posts and developer acknowledgement show that the issue was raised, not how many players agreed.
- It needs a date: Ubisoft documented changes in October and November 2024, including fewer detection-triggered failures in almost all quest objectives and more opportunities to choose combat.
- It does not mean stealth disappeared: the documented changes broadened choices and improved feedback; they do not establish that every mission permits an unrestricted combat approach.
