The best Star Wars Outlaws settings depend on your resolution and frame-rate target. Start from Ubisoft’s hardware tier, use the game’s Quality upscaling mode, then reduce ray-tracing and RTX Direct Lighting effects if your frame rate falls short. Ubisoft’s published targets are 1080p/30 on Low with a GTX 1660-class card, 1080p/60 on High with an RTX 3060 Ti, 1440p/60 on High with an RTX 4070, and 4K/60 on Ultra with an RTX 4080. These are target profiles rather than guarantees for every scene, CPU, driver, or post-launch build.

This guide turns those tiers into practical starting profiles, explains which options cost the most performance, and gives a repeatable way to tune your own PC without mistaking generated frames or one test route for a universal result.

Official PC targets and what they mean

Ubisoft’s August 2024 PC specifications define four tiers. Every tier requires Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 12, 16 GB of RAM, and a 65 GB SSD. Ubisoft lists Quality upscaling for all four targets.

Target Preset and output Graphics cards Processor Memory and storage
Minimum 1080p, 30 FPS, Low, Quality upscaling GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB, Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB, or Intel Arc A750 8 GB with Resizable BAR enabled Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600 16 GB dual-channel RAM; 65 GB SSD
Recommended 1080p, 60 FPS, High, Quality upscaling GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 5600X 16 GB RAM; 65 GB SSD
Enthusiast 1440p, 60 FPS, High, Quality upscaling GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB or Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Core i5-11600K or Ryzen 7 5800X 16 GB RAM; 65 GB SSD
Ultra 4K, 60 FPS, Ultra, Quality upscaling GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB or Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5800X3D 16 GB RAM; 65 GB SSD

Use the nearest tier as a starting point, not as a promise. If your GPU or CPU is below a tier, lowering the output resolution or preset is more reliable than selecting that tier and expecting the listed frame rate. Store requirements and specifications can change, so check the current game listing and your graphics-driver notes before troubleshooting a newly installed copy.

Best starting profiles by resolution

1080p at 30 FPS on entry-level hardware

  • Choose the Low preset.
  • Set the output resolution to 1920×1080 and begin with Quality upscaling.
  • Use the GTX 1660, RX 5600 XT, or Arc A750 class as the practical reference point; Arc requires Resizable BAR enabled in Ubisoft’s minimum specification.
  • If frame time remains unstable, test Medium or Performance upscaling only after reducing ray-tracing and lighting options.
  • Cap the frame rate at 30 if your display and controller experience benefit from consistent pacing.

1080p at 60 FPS on mainstream hardware

  • Start with High and Quality upscaling.
  • Use an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT class GPU and a Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 5600X class CPU as Ubisoft’s reference.
  • Keep standard ray-traced contact shadows, diffuse reflections, and specular reflections at their High-preset values initially; disable RTX Direct Lighting first if the GPU is saturated.
  • Use frame generation only when your conventional rendered frame rate is already reasonably smooth. It can make motion appear smoother, but it does not equal the same number of natively rendered frames.

1440p at 60 FPS on enthusiast hardware

  • Select High at 2560×1440 with Quality upscaling.
  • Ubisoft’s reference is an RTX 4070 or RX 6800 XT, paired with a Core i5-11600K or Ryzen 7 5800X.
  • If you need more headroom, lower RTX Direct Lighting and RTXGI before switching from Quality to a more aggressive upscaling mode.
  • PCGamesN reported 91.7 FPS on an RTX 4070 test system with its own Quality-upscaling profile; adding medium ray tracing reduced that result to 67.4 FPS. Those figures belong to that publication’s i7-11700F, RTX 4070, 32 GB test PC and run, not to every RTX 4070 system.

4K at 60 FPS on high-end hardware

  • Use Ultra at 3840×2160 with Quality upscaling as the first test.
  • Ubisoft’s reference hardware is an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX with a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
  • At this resolution, test RTX Direct Lighting and RTXGI before sacrificing upscaling quality. TechSpot’s launch-era testing found RTX Direct Lighting particularly expensive in a demanding 4K case.
  • If your display supports a high refresh rate, prioritize stable frame delivery over an Ultra setting that causes repeated dips.

How the game’s ray tracing options work

Ray tracing is already part of the normal graphics presets. TechSpot found that the standard presets enable ray-traced contact shadows, diffuse reflections, and specular reflections, while Ultra raises their quality. RTX Direct Lighting is a separate and more demanding option; it is not simply another name for the preset’s built-in ray-traced effects.

RTX Direct Lighting

This setting can create a large GPU cost, particularly at 4K or when combined with a high ray-tracing preset. If the GPU is at or near full utilization and the frame rate misses its target, switch RTX Direct Lighting off before lowering the entire preset. The visual trade-off is more pronounced in scenes with complex indirect lighting, so compare a busy settlement and an outdoor route rather than judging from a menu.

RTXGI

PC Optimized Settings’ September 2024 tests, run on a Ryzen 9 7950X and RTX 4090 FE on Toshara, found a significant RTXGI cost. Its profiles use Medium as a balance for some targets and Off for others. Those results predate later updates and apply to that test machine; treat Medium and Off as controlled experiments, not fixed universal values.

Ray-traced reflections and shadows

Because contact shadows, diffuse reflections, and specular reflections are tied to the standard presets, lowering High to Medium or Low can recover performance without immediately disabling every ray-traced effect. Make one change at a time and revisit the same camera angle so you can identify which compromise you actually notice.

Upscaling, DLSS versions and frame generation

Ubisoft lists NVIDIA DLSS 3.5, Intel XeSS 1.3 and AMD FSR 3.0. Select the option supported by your GPU, then begin with Quality. Lower modes reconstruct more of the image and can soften fine detail or introduce shimmer, so inspect foliage, distant cables and thin geometry before accepting a faster mode.

DLSS 4 and RTX 50-series cards

Ubisoft’s February 6, 2025 Title Update 1.5.1 notes add DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation for GeForce RTX 50-series cards. The notes describe up to three AI-generated frames per traditionally rendered frame, updated single-frame-generation models for RTX 40 and 50, and new transformer models for DLSS Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution and DLAA across RTX GPUs. The exact controls shown depend on your card, driver and current game build, so use the options exposed in your installed version.

What frame generation can and cannot do

Frame generation inserts displayed frames between traditionally rendered frames. It can improve perceived smoothness, but it does not provide the same input response or image-generation workload as rendering every frame natively. For that reason, first make the underlying frame rate stable, then enable generation if latency and visual artifacts are acceptable.

NVIDIA reports average DLSS Multi Frame Generation multipliers of 9.3× at 4K, 6.1× at 1440p and 5.5× at 1080p in its Star Wars Outlaws testing in Myrra City. These are NVIDIA’s vendor results, not an independently verified expectation for every scene. They should not be compared directly with TechSpot’s separate launch-era benchmark, which used a different route, system and driver.

Which settings should you lower for more FPS?

  1. Confirm the bottleneck. If GPU utilization is near 100 percent, reduce RTX Direct Lighting, RTXGI, ray-tracing quality or the most demanding effects. If the GPU is underused while the frame rate remains low, investigate CPU load, background applications and simulation-heavy areas instead.
  2. Keep the output resolution fixed. Test at your intended 1080p, 1440p or 4K output so every change answers the question you actually care about.
  3. Reduce expensive lighting first. Disable RTX Direct Lighting, then try RTXGI Medium or Off. Recheck a repeatable scene after each change.
  4. Lower the preset only as needed. Moving from Ultra to High can reduce several ray-traced quality levels together; this is often preferable to a heavily blurred upscaling mode.
  5. Change upscaling quality last. Move from Quality to Balanced or Performance only when lighting and preset changes do not meet your target. Check distant foliage, reflections and character outlines for reconstruction artifacts.
  6. Use a frame cap. A cap just below the refresh rate can improve consistency when the system oscillates between widely different frame times.

Object Detail and why there is no magic value

Object Detail affects how much geometry and scene detail remains visible at distance, but its best value depends on resolution, CPU headroom and the target frame rate. PCGamesN’s RTX 4070 profile, updated August 15, 2025, uses Quality upscaling, Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction and an Object Detail value of 200. PC Optimized Settings varies Object Detail by target tier. The differing profiles are evidence that the setting should be tuned against your own frame-time budget rather than copied as a universal number.

At 1440p and 4K, preserve detail if you have spare CPU and GPU capacity; at 1080p, reducing distant detail can be a less noticeable way to stabilize busy scenes. Compare a settlement with many objects and an open traversal route, because one location may hide a cost that appears elsewhere.

A repeatable tuning procedure

  1. Update deliberately. Install a current graphics driver compatible with your GPU and note the game build. The cited setting tests span 2024 and 2025, and this evidence does not establish the newest PC patch or a complete retest of every option.
  2. Set display mode and resolution. Choose your monitor’s intended output resolution and refresh rate before changing quality settings.
  3. Select the matching preset. Begin at Low, High or Ultra according to the closest Ubisoft tier in the table above.
  4. Choose the GPU’s upscaler. Use DLSS, XeSS or FSR where supported and start at Quality.
  5. Record a baseline. Walk the same 30-second route or repeat the same camera movement, recording average FPS and noticeable stutter. PCGamesN notes that the game has no built-in benchmark tool.
  6. Change one setting. Test RTX Direct Lighting first, then RTXGI, then the preset or individual effects. Do not change several options at once if you want to know which trade-off helped.
  7. Check image quality. Inspect foliage, reflections, shadows and distant geometry while moving, not only in a static screenshot.
  8. Save the profile. Keep a 30-FPS, 60-FPS and visual-quality profile if you switch between a monitor and a television or between resolutions.

How to interpret published benchmarks

TechSpot tested up to 43 GPUs across three resolutions and five configurations, producing 522 data points. Its defined 30-second Toshara route was designed to stress both CPU and GPU. That makes it useful for comparing settings under controlled launch-era conditions, not for promising a game-wide frame rate on a current build.

SSD, memory and installation checks

Ubisoft and the Steam listing specify a 65 GB SSD requirement. An SSD is a storage prerequisite; the available evidence does not establish that replacing one qualifying SSD with a faster model is a graphics-setting upgrade. Ensure at least 65 GB is free, preferably with additional room for updates, and use dual-channel memory where your platform supports it. If the game stutters despite meeting the graphics tier, check background applications, shader compilation behavior, driver installation and storage health before assuming a single quality slider is responsible.

Common problems and targeted fixes

The frame rate is below the selected tier

Verify that the game is using the intended GPU, that the output resolution has not changed, and that frame generation is not being counted as native performance. Then disable RTX Direct Lighting and test RTXGI Medium or Off. If the result is still below target, lower the preset or upscaling mode.

The image looks soft or shimmers

Return to Quality upscaling, compare the same scene at native output, and inspect foliage and thin geometry while moving. If the image remains unstable, reduce ray-tracing quality rather than using a more aggressive reconstruction mode.

Performance varies sharply between locations

Use a repeatable route and judge the worst regular area, not only an easy corridor. Open-world settlements can stress CPU and GPU resources differently from open terrain. A stable cap may feel better than an uncapped average that repeatedly falls during traversal.

Frame generation feels delayed

Lower the base rendering load first. Generated frames cannot remove the input latency of a low traditionally rendered frame rate, so reduce lighting or preset quality until camera movement and controls feel responsive, then test generation again.

Choosing an upgrade target

If your current card cannot sustain the resolution you want after tuning, Ubisoft’s 1440p/60 High tier identifies a GeForce RTX 4070-class GPU as one reference point. That is a specification target, not a claim that it is the best value in 2026; current prices and value rankings are not established here. Buy or upgrade only after confirming that your processor, power supply, case clearance and monitor resolution match the intended tier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Likewise, do not purchase storage merely because the game lists an SSD requirement if you already have at least 65 GB free on a qualifying SSD.
