Frederik Wessberg’s project, announced on October 11, 2026, is a PC-only work in progress for Starfield Script Extender (SFSE). It aims to let you fly from orbit to a planetary surface without a loading screen, but its feature list is a creator announcement, not evidence of a stable release.
Two released beta projects cover neighboring transitions instead: Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE removes the loading screen when leaving a planet, while True Seamless Grav Jumps SFSE removes the loading transition between star systems. Astrogate adds supercruise and autopilot systems, but it is not a seamless-landing replacement. The table and sections below separate what each project actually does, what is known about compatibility, and what the available performance evidence can—and cannot—prove.

At a glance: which Starfield travel transition does each project cover?
| Project | Transition covered | Status and headline features | Requirements or compatibility notes | Performance evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seamless planetary landing project — Frederik Wessberg | Orbit to a planetary surface | Work in progress; planned manual low-orbit flight or autopilot, walking around the ship during descent, landing anywhere including water, 3D planets, atmospheric and weather effects, and background asset loading. Announced as free. | PC-only and made for SFSE. No released mod page or public compatibility matrix was documented in the announcement. | No public benchmark or release testing. The teaser demonstrates an intended design, not stable performance. |
| Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE (Beta), version 1.4 | Planet surface to space | Removes the takeoff loading screen and spawns the ship above the landing site. Transition smoothness varies with planetary atmosphere and weather. Listing updated October 10, 2026. | Requires SFSE and Address Library. Fly Closer To Planets in Cruise Mode is optional but recommended; without it, the ship may teleport upward when cruise mode is entered after takeoff. | Changelog fixes cover crashes, camera behavior, weather, glow, and visuals. No frame-rate or loading-time benchmark is supplied. |
| True Seamless Grav Jumps SFSE, version 1.3 | Grav jump between systems | Removes the grav-jump loading screen and white flash. The author labels it beta; listing updated October 11, 2026. | Requires SFSE and Address Library. Changelog records fixes and support for Astrogate and Grav Lanes; current configuration instructions remain authoritative. | The author advises disabling autosave on travel to reduce stutter. Changelog improvements are not controlled performance testing. |
| Astrogate | Supercruise, autopilot, and related travel behavior | Adds supercruise and autopilot options. Existing-landing-site autopilot is marked experimental and disabled by default. | Its notes document compatibility work and optional integrations. Requirements and conflicts can change with updates, so consult the live listing. | Optimization is mentioned in the changelog, but no measured frame-rate, loading-time, or stability comparison is published. |
The distinction matters: a mod that makes takeoff seamless does not make the descent to a planet seamless, and a mod that removes the grav-jump transition does not alter landing behavior.

A true orbit-to-surface flight
Wessberg’s concept targets the transition Starfield normally hides behind a loading screen: flying from a ship in orbit down to a chosen point on a planet. The announcement describes manual control at low orbit as well as an autopilot option. It also proposes landing anywhere, including water, rather than being restricted to a conventional landing-site selection.

- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
The planned presentation is unusually ambitious. The creator says the ship should remain interactive during descent, with the player able to walk around inside it while the world streams in. In a PC Gamer report dated October 12, 2026, Wessberg explained: “The underlying loading mechanism is entirely done in the background, while the game is still interactive.”
Why the project needs a different rendering approach
Starfield’s standard travel flow separates orbital space from the surface scene. Wessberg said, “I had to completely reimplement Starfield’s planet rendering in space in 3D,” describing the technical premise behind showing a planet as a continuous, explorable body below the ship. The announced feature set also includes atmospheric and weather effects and background asset loading.
Announcement, not a released product
The project was still explicitly unfinished in the creator’s October 11 announcement: “It’s still a work in progress, and it’s PC-only, made for SFSE.” No released download, stable version number, public game-build support list, or compatibility matrix was documented there. Treat manual flight, water landings, weather, walking during descent, and autopilot as intended features rather than verified capabilities in a build you can install today.
That status also prevents a fair buyer-style ranking against released mods. There is no published frame-rate test, loading-time measurement, or reproducible stability result for the project. A teaser can show the direction of development, but it cannot establish how it behaves across planets, weather conditions, graphics settings, or other SFSE plugins.
Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE (Beta): the released departure mod
What it changes
Version 1.4 removes the loading screen used when leaving a planetary surface and places the ship above the landing site as the takeoff transition completes. The author warns that the perceived smoothness depends on the destination’s atmosphere and weather, and says work is continuing to improve the transition.

This is a planet-to-space mod. It does not provide the reverse orbit-to-surface landing described by Wessberg’s project. Installing it should therefore be understood as improving departure, not completing a seamless travel loop.
Prerequisites and optional companion
The beta requires Starfield Script Extender and Address Library. The listing recommends Fly Closer To Planets in Cruise Mode as an optional companion. Without that companion, the author warns that the ship may teleport upward when cruise mode is entered after takeoff.

What version 1.4’s changelog tells you
The October 10, 2026 listing records fixes involving crashes, camera behavior, weather, glow, and other visual issues. Those entries indicate active bug fixing, but they are not a controlled comparison of frame rate, loading duration, or long-session stability. Because it is a beta, keep a backup save and recheck the listing after every game or framework update.
True Seamless Grav Jumps SFSE: removing the interstellar loading transition
Scope
True Seamless Grav Jumps SFSE, version 1.3, targets the jump between star systems. It removes the grav-jump loading screen and the associated white flash. It does not create a continuous descent to a planet and should not be described as a landing mod.
Compatibility and configuration
The project requires SFSE and Address Library. Its changelog documents crash fixes and compatibility work involving Astrogate and Grav Lanes. Those integrations are version-sensitive, so the current mod page and its configuration instructions take precedence over older installation advice or screenshots.

Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
The author recommends disabling autosave on travel to reduce stutter. That is a configuration suggestion from the mod’s documentation, not proof that every system will gain a measurable performance improvement.
Where Astrogate fits
Astrogate supplies supercruise and autopilot options that can make travel feel more continuous, but it covers a different layer of the experience from orbit-to-surface rendering. Its listing includes new and existing landing-site autopilot features; the existing-site behavior is experimental and disabled by default.
The project’s changelog records compatibility work and script optimization, plus optional integrations. No benchmark accompanies those notes. If you combine Astrogate with either seamless-transition beta, check the current notes for supported versions, load order guidance, and known conflicts rather than assuming that an integration mentioned in one release remains valid indefinitely.
Compatibility: what you can safely assume
Framework dependency
Both released seamless-transition mods depend on SFSE and Address Library. The announced landing project is also described as SFSE-based, but it has no public release matrix. A plugin that works on one Starfield build may fail after a game update even when its feature list is unchanged.
Combining travel mods
- Seamless Planet Takeoffs and True Seamless Grav Jumps address different transitions, so they are conceptually complementary rather than substitutes.
- Astrogate can overlap with travel behavior and autopilot systems. Its documented support for other projects is release-specific, not a permanent guarantee.
- Fly Closer To Planets in Cruise Mode is an optional recommendation for the takeoff mod, not a requirement for the announced landing project.
- No public compatibility matrix establishes support for every combination of these projects, every Starfield build, or every other SFSE plugin.
A practical preflight checklist
- Write down your Starfield game version and the exact versions of SFSE and Address Library before changing anything.
- Read the live changelog for each mod on the day you install it; version 1.4 and 1.3 are the versions identified in the October 2026 listings, not a promise of future support.
- Test one travel transition at a time on a separate save. First verify takeoff, then grav jumps, then any Astrogate integration.
- Test several conditions—clear weather, storms, high-atmosphere worlds, and different landing sites—because the takeoff author specifically says atmosphere and weather affect smoothness.
- If you see crashes, camera glitches, a white flash, or unexpected teleporting, remove the newest travel plugin or optional integration first and compare against the documented changelog.
Performance: what is known and what is not
There is no published, apples-to-apples performance study for these projects. The available evidence is qualitative: changelog entries mention crash fixes, stutter reduction, camera and weather fixes, visual corrections, or script optimization. None supplies measured frames per second, loading times, memory use, or a stability rate under controlled conditions.

That limitation is especially important for the announced landing project. Background streaming and 3D planet rendering may be central to its design, but the announcement does not establish a hardware target, graphics preset, minimum specification, or sustained performance result. Do not convert a smooth teaser sequence into a guarantee for your own system.
For the released betas, interpret “smoother” narrowly. The takeoff author ties transition quality to atmosphere and weather. The grav-jump author’s autosave advice addresses travel stutter, while changelog fixes indicate bugs were removed over time. Neither is a measured claim that the mod increases average FPS or eliminates all pauses.
Which option should you use?
You want actual orbit-to-surface seamless landing
Wait for a released build of Wessberg’s project and evaluate its published game-build support, requirements, and testing notes when they exist. The October 2026 announcement is not yet an installable, compatibility-verified answer.
You want a seamless takeoff now
Use Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE (Beta) version 1.4 if your SFSE and Address Library setup matches the current listing. Add the recommended cruise-mode companion only after confirming that its version is compatible with your game.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You mainly dislike grav-jump loading screens
True Seamless Grav Jumps SFSE version 1.3 is the relevant project. Follow its current configuration guidance, including the author’s autosave recommendation if travel stutter is an issue.
You want more active control during interplanetary travel
Astrogate is the relevant category because it adds supercruise and autopilot. Treat existing-landing-site autopilot as experimental and leave it disabled unless you specifically want to test that behavior.
Bottom line for 2026
There is still no released seamless-landing mod with a verified compatibility and performance record in the material available through October 13, 2026. The most ambitious orbit-to-surface option is a PC-only SFSE work in progress. The released choices improve adjacent transitions—takeoff and grav jumps—and Astrogate expands supercruise and autopilot, but none should be presented as a substitute for true seamless landing. Install by exact version, test combinations cautiously, and treat changelog language as qualitative maintenance information rather than benchmark data.
