The patch also added display and performance options and delivered fixes across gameplay, ships, graphics, the interface, Creations and outposts. “Carfield” is a playful nod to the new vehicle—not a sign that the update turned Starfield into a driving game.
What Update 1.13.61 added
The Rev-8 land vehicle
The Rev-8 was described in contemporaneous coverage as Starfield’s first land vehicle. Players could purchase it from a ship technician; Bethesda’s current vehicle guidance says the REV-8 is available from a city ship technician. The vehicle was the major new gameplay addition, while the rest of the update focused largely on settings and maintenance.

New display and performance controls
The patch added a frame-rate target, a Visuals/Performance priority, and a VSync toggle. The reported choices depended on display support: VRR displays could select 30, 40, or 60 frames per second, or uncapped; non-VRR displays could select 30 or 60. The patch coverage warned that choosing 60 on a non-VRR display could cause screen tearing. These are options reported for 1.13.61, not a guarantee for every later version or setup.
The Visuals mode prioritizes resolution and detail. Performance mode lowers internal resolution and detail to pursue the selected frame-rate target. IGN’s coverage recommended Performance mode when targeting 60 frames per second or higher, but the reporting did not include independent benchmarks or hardware-specific measurements.

VSync and Xbox Series S
With VSync off, tearing may occur; with it on, frame output is synchronized to the display to avoid tearing, with frames limited accordingly. Xbox Series S also received performance options. The available reporting identifies the feature but does not provide a detailed menu breakdown for that console.

How to read the update in context
Update 1.13.61 is a historical August 2024 release, not a statement of Starfield’s current version. Bethesda’s later Free Lanes page describes an update scheduled for April 7, 2026, and Bethesda’s current vehicle guidance lists both the REV-8 and Moon Jumper. Those later references establish that the game has continued to change; they do not establish its latest build number.
The detailed 1.13.61 change list summarized here comes from IGN’s contemporaneous coverage, corroborated by a secondary transcription. Bethesda’s current support and Free Lanes pages provide later context rather than the original 1.13.61 notes.
