Steam’s Autumn Sale runs October 1–8, 2026, with 44,048 games priced below $5 in a SteamDB snapshot reported on October 1. Against that flood of low-cost PC deals, Rockstar’s announced GTA 6 launch price stands out: Take-Two listed the US Standard Edition at $79.99, while Rockstar’s European store page displayed €79.99. The comparison is about timing and scale—not a claim that GTA 6 is on Steam or that Steam discounts affect its price.
Why the Steam sale puts GTA 6’s price in sharper focus
Valve’s Steamworks sale calendar lists the 2026 Autumn Sale for October 1–8. On October 1, PC Gamer reported a SteamDB count of 44,048 games below $5. That is a snapshot from one day, not a fixed total for the event or a guarantee that every listed game is discounted by the same amount. PC Gamer also notes that Steam filters can help shoppers narrow the selection.
The contrast is straightforward: Steam offers a wide range of inexpensive PC games during a short seasonal event, while GTA 6 is a single premium launch purchase scheduled for the following month. The sale’s scale makes the price difference easy to notice, but it does not establish that the sale changed Rockstar or Take-Two’s pricing.
GTA 6’s release date, platforms and listed prices
Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for release on November 19, 2026. The announced platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Rockstar Support. Steam is not among the announced platforms, so the PC sale is a comparison point rather than a place to buy GTA 6.

What buyers should know about the physical Standard Edition
“Physical” does not necessarily mean a disc. Rockstar says the physical Standard Edition is a code in a box, with no disc included. Code redemption may be restricted by region, so check that the code supports both your platform and your account region before buying. Rockstar’s support page documents the pre-order question as “Where can I pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI?” but retailer availability and listings may differ.

Does the Steam discount calendar say anything about a GTA 6 sale?
No. Valve’s discount documentation says games are generally ineligible for discounts within 30 days of release or a price increase. That general rule applies to Steam discount eligibility; it is not evidence that GTA 6 will be sold on Steam, nor does it predict a discount on PlayStation or Xbox.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, quoted by GamesRadar+ after a CNBC appearance, said: “We establish our pricing, and then storefronts can do what they wish. We don’t have any ability to control that. So if they reduce the price, they’re obviously reducing their margin on the sale.” GamesRadar+ reported no near-term publisher discount signal and cited GTA V’s long price history as a reference point. That is a reported view, not a promised GTA 6 discount schedule.

How to weigh the sale against a GTA 6 purchase
- Different kinds of spending: the Steam count describes many low-priced PC games; GTA 6’s listed launch price is for one console game.
- Different timing: the Steam event ends October 8, while GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19.
- Different platforms: Steam deals are for PC; Rockstar has announced PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for GTA 6.
- Different price contexts: compare prices only after checking currency, territory, edition and storefront.
For buyers choosing a physical copy, confirm whether a retailer’s current listing is the code-in-box version and matches the console you own. The package should not be mistaken for a disc edition.
