Steam Frame Trademark: Does It Mean Valve’s Steam Machine Is Coming Back?

Valve’s Steam Frame trademark names consoles and controllers, but the filing does not prove a product launch or explain the company’s motive. Here’s what it does—and doesn’t—show about the Steam Machine.

No. Valve’s Steam Frame trademark filing names game consoles and controllers among its intended goods, but it does not prove that the company launched a Steam Machine or filed the mark to revive that product line. The Steam Machine has a separate basis: 2026 reporting on Valve’s announced hardware plans. As of October 4, 2026, the sources cited below do not verify whether either product actually shipped or is available to buy.

Does Steam Frame mean Valve is bringing back the Steam Machine?

Not on its own. A trademark filing is evidence of the goods named in an application, not proof that a product has been released or an explanation of the applicant’s plans. Valve’s Steam Machine plans were reported separately from the Steam Frame trademark record.

On June 5, 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported Valve’s statement: “Today we are expanding the Verified program to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame, both of which are shipping this summer.” That establishes the shipping window Valve stated at that time; it does not confirm completed shipments or current retail availability. Read the June 5 report.

What does the Steam Frame trademark filing say?

Valve Corporation filed application 99370861 on September 2, 2025, on an intent-to-use basis. Its Class 028 goods include computer game consoles for recreational game playing, video game consoles, and video game accessories—namely, controllers. The January 27, 2026 notice of allowance lists no first-use or use-in-commerce date for those goods. See the application record.

Valve Steam Deck OLED 1TB Handheld Gaming Console
  • 1TB NVMe SSD
  • 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
  • Wi-Fi 6E
  • 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
  • Carrying case with removable liner

A notice of allowance is a procedural trademark step, not a finding that the named goods have launched. The record supports saying Valve sought protection for the Steam Frame name for the listed goods; it does not establish a product’s release date, availability, or connection to the Steam Machine.

Why are there two Steam Frame applications?

A separate application, serial 99370857, uses the same name but describes a different set of goods: computer hardware, networking hardware, peripherals, and hardware or software for reproducing, processing, and streaming multimedia. Its docket page reports a notice of allowance dated April 14, 2026. It should not be conflated with application 99370861, which names consoles and controllers. See the separate application record.

Has Valve released the new Steam Machine?

The cited 2026 coverage establishes announced plans, not a verified completed launch. On February 5, reporting said Valve was aiming to ship in the first half of 2026, while pricing and specific release dates remained unsettled amid memory and storage supply concerns. By June 5, Valve was quoted as saying the Steam Machine and Steam Frame were shipping in summer 2026. Neither report, by itself, verifies that shipments later occurred or that the products are on sale as of October 4, 2026. See the June 5 report.
