“Not sexy enough” is Rachel Kaser’s deliberately provocative way of describing a costume-coherence problem—not a claim that Eve fails some objective test of attractiveness. In her April 5, 2024 GamesBeat column, written after playing the demo but before the full game, Kaser argues that some of Eve’s outfits combine sexualized styling with details that feel discordant or unlike something the character would choose.
What Kaser means by “not sexy enough”
Kaser’s point is about how an outfit is put together, not about Eve’s body or whether the game should include sex appeal. She says she has no general objection to sexualized character design. What bothers her is a mismatch between the outfits’ tight, revealing presentation and some of their added details: those details, in her view, do not make a coherent look or feel like Eve’s own choices.

She draws a distinction between the suits themselves and the elements layered onto them. A close-fitting outfit can make sense for a nimble cyberpunk soldier; the styling around it is where she sees the disconnect. That is why “not sexy enough” is better read as shorthand for a design that does not fully commit to a coherent visual idea, rather than a demand for more revealing clothing.

Kaser singles out the white lace dickey, green necktie and mechanic gloves on the default green Planet Diving Suit. Her objection is not simply that these pieces are modest or practical. Together, she finds them incongruous with the suit’s sexualized presentation and with the image of a cyberpunk fighter.

The Skin Suit
She also questions the two-tone tan pattern on the Skin Suit. In her reading, the pattern adds a visual choice that does not sit comfortably with the look the outfit otherwise seems to be pursuing.
These are personal aesthetic judgments, not evidence that the game’s character design is objectively wrong. The useful question behind them is whether an outfit’s silhouette, materials, accessories and implied function seem to belong together—and to the character wearing it.

Why the publication date matters
Kaser’s column appeared on April 5, 2024, and its page was updated June 18, 2025. The original argument was based on the demo: Kaser explicitly said she had not yet played the full game and allowed that her opinion might change. It should therefore be understood as a pre-release reaction, not as a review of the finished game or a claim about what players generally think of Eve.
The game context
PlayStation describes Stellar Blade as a story-driven, single-player action adventure. EVE arrives on Earth with the 7th Airborne Squad to reclaim it from the Naytiba. After her unit is attacked, Adam saves her, and she continues the mission with help from him and Lily. The game launched on April 26, 2024. PlayStation lists PS5 availability, links to PC storefronts, and confirms both digital purchase options and a physical Blu-ray release.

How to assess the design critique
Kaser invokes Bayonetta and Lara Croft as personal reference points, not as objective yardsticks. A more useful way to consider her argument is to ask what each design communicates and whether its parts support that reading:
- Costume coherence: Do the clothing, accessories and patterns reinforce one visual idea, or do they pull in different directions?
- Fit with character and setting: Does the outfit seem plausible for the character’s role and world, even when it is stylized?
- Sex appeal and agency: Does the presentation feel like a deliberate character choice, or mainly an imposition of the viewer’s perspective? Kaser’s concern is what Eve herself would choose to wear.
- Performance in motion: A costume seen in a still image may read differently when the character moves and acts. That distinction is relevant to evaluating a game design, though it does not settle Kaser’s specific judgments.
Those questions leave room for disagreement. A player may enjoy the outfits or read their details differently; Kaser’s claim is that particular combinations weaken the coherence she wants from Eve’s design.
