To host StoneBlock 1, use the matching Forge server pack—not a vanilla Minecraft server JAR—on a dedicated folder, run its supplied installer or launch script, accept the EULA, and test with localhost before exposing the server to the internet. StoneBlock 1 targets Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2; the server and every client must use the same StoneBlock release, Forge build, mods, and relevant configuration.

What StoneBlock 1 is, and which files you need

StoneBlock 1 is the original StoneBlock release for Minecraft 1.12.2. Its CurseForge file listing identifies stoneblock_1.0.37-server.zip as the server pack, released July 28, 2020. That archive is the safest starting point because it is assembled for the modpack’s Forge libraries, mods, configuration files, and launch arguments.

Do not begin with minecraft_server.1.12.2.jar or another vanilla server download. A vanilla JAR can create a conventional 1.12.2 world, but it does not load the StoneBlock mod set. Likewise, files from a later StoneBlock generation are not interchangeable with StoneBlock 1. If the server pack and client profile come from different release lines, login failures and missing-mod errors are likely.

Requirements and decisions before installation

Item What to use Why it matters
Game version Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2 StoneBlock 1 is built for this version; newer Minecraft versions are different modding environments.
Server files The matching StoneBlock server pack, identified as stoneblock_1.0.37-server.zip It supplies the Forge installation, mods, configs, and launch scripts expected by the pack.
Java Java 8 is specified by a StoneBlock hosting reference for this 1.12.2-era pack Older Forge installations can fail with an incompatible Java runtime. Confirm the executable named by the pack’s own launcher before changing it.
Storage location A short, dedicated directory with write permission Separating the server from downloads and other worlds makes updates, permissions, and backups safer.
Memory Set heap values in the supplied launch script or JVM arguments No StoneBlock-specific minimum allocation is established here. Leave headroom for the operating system and other applications.
Network plan LAN address for people at home; port forwarding or a tunnel for remote players Internet players cannot normally reach a private home address without an exposure method.

Download the server archive and the client profile from the same StoneBlock 1 release line. Keep the original ZIP until the server has been tested; it is a clean recovery point if extraction or later edits go wrong.

Install the StoneBlock 1 server

1. Create a clean server directory

  1. Create a new folder used only for this world, such as a short path on a drive with sufficient free space.
  2. Give your user account read and write permission to that folder. Avoid protected operating-system directories that can block generated files.
  3. Do not place a second Minecraft server, an old Forge installation, or an unrelated modpack in the same directory.

On Windows, a short path also makes it easier to read launch errors and avoids problems caused by very long filenames. On another operating system, use an equivalent dedicated directory and preserve the pack’s supplied file names.

2. Extract the matching archive

Extract stoneblock_1.0.37-server.zip directly into the new directory rather than running files from inside the compressed archive. Check that the scripts, Forge-related files, mods, and configuration folders are visible after extraction. If the ZIP contains an additional top-level folder, use the folder that actually contains the launch script as the server directory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not merge the contents into an existing server. A mixture of old and new mods can look like a Java problem while actually being a release mismatch.

3. Run the supplied installer or launcher

Use the installer or start script included with the pack. Feed The Beast’s server documentation describes this modpack workflow: place the server installer in the target directory, allow it to create the required files, and then use the generated launcher, such as run.bat on Windows. The exact script name can vary, so use the file delivered with your StoneBlock pack rather than guessing a JAR name.

The launcher keeps the Forge libraries, mod list, configuration paths, and launch arguments together. Starting a random Forge or vanilla JAR can produce a server that appears to run but has no StoneBlock content, or it can fail before Forge loads.

4. Check Java before diagnosing Forge

A StoneBlock hosting reference specifies Java 8 for this generation. If the launcher reports an unsupported class version, cannot find Java, or exits immediately, verify which Java executable the script calls. Confirm the pack’s launcher files first: some packs include a path or variable that must be edited, while others rely on the system’s Java command.

  • Use a 64-bit Java 8 installation when the server computer and operating system support it.
  • Make sure the launcher points to that installation rather than an unrelated newer Java runtime.
  • Do not replace Forge libraries simply because a different Java version starts another Minecraft server.

If the error remains, restore the untouched server-pack files and run the supplied launcher again. Fixing Java and file-version issues first prevents misleading secondary errors from partially loaded mods.

5. Accept the EULA on first launch

Start the generated script once. The server normally stops after creating eula.txt. Open that file, read Mojang’s EULA, and change eula=false to eula=true only if you accept the terms. Save the file and start the same script again.

The EULA setting belongs in eula.txt; it is not a JVM option. Likewise, heap switches belong in the launch script or its JVM argument section, not in server.properties. Keeping these settings in their intended files makes later troubleshooting much clearer.

6. Set memory without starving the computer

Edit the memory arguments already present in the supplied launcher. Increase or decrease the heap according to the server computer’s total RAM, what else it must run, and how the server behaves during actual play. There is no published StoneBlock-specific minimum RAM figure in the available documentation, so treat memory as a configuration choice rather than a guaranteed number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Leave enough physical memory for the operating system, the Minecraft client if it runs on the same machine, backups, and other services.
  • Change one setting at a time and observe console errors, operating-system swapping, and connection stability.
  • Keep the launch syntax supplied by the pack; do not paste heap flags into a world or gameplay property.

7. Wait for a normal ready state

Run the launcher and watch the console. A successful start ends with the server reporting that the world is ready to accept connections. The documentation does not establish a universal startup time, so do not treat a particular number of seconds as a test. A first launch can take longer while Forge creates libraries, configs, and the world.

Stop immediately if the console reports missing libraries, a wrong Java executable, or a Forge loading error. Do not keep changing random mods. Compare the directory with a fresh extraction of the exact server pack and repeat the installation steps.

Verify the server locally before inviting anyone

Connect from the host computer

  1. Leave the server running and open Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2 with the matching StoneBlock 1 client profile.
  2. Choose the multiplayer screen and add a server using localhost as the address.
  3. Connect only after the server console says the world is ready.

localhost tests the game and server on the same computer without involving the router or the public internet. If this fails, remote networking is not the next problem to solve: check the client profile, Forge loading, the server console, and the launch files first.

Connect from another device on the same home network

  1. Find the host computer’s private IPv4 address on the home network.
  2. From the second computer, use that private address in the multiplayer server address field.
  3. Include a port only if the server uses a non-default value.

LAN clients must use the host’s local address, not its public address. A successful LAN connection proves that the server and local firewall can communicate; it does not prove that a friend outside the home can reach the machine.

Let friends connect over the internet

Choose and record the server port

The conventional Minecraft port referenced by a hosting guide is 25565. The authoritative value is the server-port entry in server.properties. If you change it, the router rule and every remote player’s address must use the same number. A mismatch between the configured port and the forwarded port produces a timeout even when the server itself is healthy.

Forward the port to a stable local address

  1. Give the server computer a fixed private address, either with a router address reservation or an equivalent local-network method.
  2. Create a router port-forward rule for the configured Minecraft port, targeting that computer’s private address.
  3. Allow the server application or the chosen port through the computer’s firewall.
  4. Have remote players connect to the home’s public address and the configured port.

Port forwarding is a router operation, and menu names differ by manufacturer. The important relationship is one external port, one internal port, and one stable server computer. If the host’s private address changes, an otherwise correct rule can begin forwarding to the wrong device.

Use a tunnel when router access is unavailable

A tunneling service can provide an alternative when you cannot change the router, are behind carrier-grade NAT, or do not want to expose a direct inbound rule. The tunnel must support the Java server’s traffic and provide friends with the current endpoint and port. Treat the tunnel address as a connection detail, not a replacement for matching the game and mods.

Apply basic exposure precautions

  • Forward only the Minecraft port you actually use.
  • Keep the server and Java installation updated within the limits of the StoneBlock 1 pack; do not replace old Forge components casually.
  • Use a whitelist or other access controls available in your server administration workflow when the address is public.
  • Never post the home network’s public address together with unrelated private services.

Make every client match the server

StoneBlock login is not a simple “same game version” check. Forge compares the modded environment during the handshake. Use this checklist for the host and every player:

Check Required match Typical symptom when it differs
Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2 The client cannot load the profile or disconnects before joining.
StoneBlock release The same StoneBlock 1 release/server-pack line Missing, extra, or incompatible mod errors.
Forge The loader build expected by that pack Forge handshake failure or a mod-list mismatch.
Mods The same server-required mod set and versions “Missing mods,” “mod rejected,” or login disconnect messages.
Configuration Matching relevant configuration files Registry, recipe, or synchronization errors after authentication.
Client-only files Any resource or client-side files required by the pack Visual or startup problems even when the server list matches.
Address The administrator’s current host and port Timeout, refused connection, or connection to the wrong world.

The quickest reliable comparison is to install the client profile from the same release line as the server pack, rather than adding individual mods until an error disappears. A vanilla client, a different StoneBlock release, or a different Forge build is a mismatch even when all of them say “1.12.2.”

Troubleshoot in the order the failure occurs

The server starts as an ordinary vanilla world

Stop it and inspect the launch method. Start the Forge/modpack script supplied by the server pack, not minecraft_server.1.12.2.jar. Confirm that the console lists Forge and StoneBlock mods during startup. If those files are absent, extract a fresh copy of the matching server archive instead of copying mods from another installation.

The launcher crashes or reports a Java error

Verify the Java executable and compare it with the version expected by the pack. Java 8 is the version specified by a StoneBlock hosting reference for this 1.12.2 generation, but the pack’s own launcher remains the authority for its path and arguments. Check that the operating system can execute the selected Java binary and that the server is not accidentally calling a different installation through the system PATH.

The host can join, but another LAN device cannot

  • Confirm the second device is on the same home network, not a guest Wi-Fi isolated from local devices.
  • Use the host’s current private IPv4 address, not localhost and not the public address.
  • Check the host firewall rule and whether the server is listening on the port in server.properties.
  • Make sure the server is still running and has reached its ready state.

LAN works, but friends outside the home time out

Recheck the complete path: the public address, the configured port, the router’s external and internal port values, the forwarding target, the host firewall, and whether the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT. A changed private address is especially common after a router or computer restart. If you cannot obtain a usable inbound route, use a compatible tunnel.

A client disconnects during login

Compare the player’s Minecraft version, Forge build, StoneBlock release, mod files, and relevant configs against the server. Read the client and server logs for the first reported missing or rejected mod; later errors are often consequences of that first mismatch. Reinstalling the complete matching client profile is usually more reliable than deleting one file based on a guess.

The world or mods become corrupted

  1. Stop the server cleanly from its console rather than closing the process abruptly.
  2. Preserve the affected world and logs before attempting repairs.
  3. Restore a known-good backup of the server-pack files and world.
  4. Reapply one change at a time, starting the server after each change.

No StoneBlock-specific backup interval is established in the available documentation. Choose a schedule that matches how often the world changes and how much progress you could recreate, and store copies separately from the live server directory.

Backups, updates, and routine operation

Back up before every structural change

Copy the world while the server is stopped, along with server.properties, the relevant configuration folders, and any launch-script changes. Keep the original server archive so you can rebuild the exact baseline. A backup made while files are actively changing may be incomplete, so use a clean shutdown for manual copies.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Change one layer at a time

When testing a Java change, memory adjustment, Forge change, or configuration edit, record what changed and restart before making another change. This preserves a clear cause-and-effect trail. If the server fails, restore the previous working copy instead of layering more replacements onto a broken directory.

Keep player connection details current

For LAN players, provide the host’s current private address. For remote players, provide the public address or tunnel endpoint and the exact configured port. Do not assume that a router reboot, ISP address change, or altered server-port leaves an old connection bookmark valid.

Self-hosting versus managed hosting

Self-hosting gives you direct access to the files and network, while managed hosting trades some control for maintenance help. Compare providers against StoneBlock 1’s actual requirements rather than relying on a generic “modded Minecraft” label.

Decision point Self-hosted computer Managed host to verify
Minecraft and Forge support You control the 1.12.2 Java and Forge installation. Confirm explicit support for Minecraft 1.12.2 and the required Forge build.
Server-pack installation Extract and run the supplied StoneBlock pack yourself. Confirm custom server-pack upload or installation, not only a newer one-click catalog.
Memory and CPU Limited by your computer and other workloads. Check the included RAM, CPU allocation, and whether limits are shared or dedicated.
Files and backups Full local file access; you must make and store backups. Check download access, automated backups, retention, and restore controls.
Player capacity Depends on hardware, network, and the world workload. Ask how many concurrent players the plan is intended to support for this pack; no StoneBlock-specific capacity figure is established here.
Latency Players connect through your home upload and ISP route. Choose a data-center region close to the players and verify network quality.
Availability You maintain power, internet, Java, and restarts. Check uptime practices, console access, and support for Forge errors.

Current one-click hosted-server documentation describes support for versions above 1.20.1. That does not establish StoneBlock 1 compatibility, so ask a provider specifically about 1.12.2, Forge, custom pack upload, backups, and file access before paying or migrating a world.

A reliable first-session checklist

  • The extracted directory is dedicated to StoneBlock 1 and contains the supplied launcher.
  • The server pack is the matching stoneblock_1.0.37-server.zip release line.
  • The launcher uses the Java version expected by the pack; Java 8 is the cited reference for this generation.
  • eula=true is set only after accepting Mojang’s EULA.
  • Memory values are in the launch configuration, with operating-system headroom.
  • The server reaches a ready state and accepts localhost.
  • A second LAN device can use the host’s private IPv4 address.
  • Only after LAN succeeds, the firewall and port-forward rule target the correct private address and configured port.
  • Every client uses Minecraft 1.12.2, the same StoneBlock release, matching Forge, mods, and relevant configs.
  • A clean world and server-file backup exists before changes or public exposure.

Final guidance

The dependable path is deliberately conservative: obtain the exact StoneBlock 1 server pack, run its own Forge-aware launcher with the expected Java version, accept the EULA, tune memory without exhausting the machine, and prove the installation locally. Only then configure LAN access and, if necessary, a router forward or tunnel. When a connection fails, compare versions and addresses systematically before replacing files. That approach keeps the original 1.12.2 environment intact and gives you a known-good backup to return to.
