Stormgate’s limited Early Access Preview opened on July 30, 2024, for eligible supporters and players—not the general public. Its free-to-play Early Access opening followed on August 13, 2024. The preview’s access rules and feature lineup describe that 2024 launch window, not necessarily the game’s current service status.
When did Stormgate early access go live?
The Early Access Preview went live July 30, 2024. It offered a two-week head start before Stormgate’s wider free-to-play Early Access opening on August 13, 2024. Frost Giant Studios announced the preview on July 30, while its official FAQ clarified who could enter and when.
Who could enter the July 30 preview?
Access was available to people who had participated in a closed beta playtest, Kickstarter or Indiegogo backers, and Steam customers who bought one of the three Early Access Packs. Kickstarter founders did not need to purchase a pack to get in.
The July 30 preview was not the only route to play. From August 13, 2024, the base game opened as free-to-play Early Access. The packs were optional digital content, not a requirement for ordinary access after that date.

What did the preview include?
Frost Giant presented Stormgate as a real-time strategy game set in a post-apocalyptic science-fantasy world. Its three advertised asymmetric factions were the Human Vanguard, Infernal Host, and Celestial Armada. The July 2024 announcement listed campaign, ranked 1v1, three-player co-op against AI, and custom games among the available modes.
The studio also highlighted BuddyBot, automated control groups, and a quick macro panel as features intended to reduce the execution burden for newer RTS players. These were launch-era descriptions from the developer, not independent evaluations of how effectively the tools worked.

Frost Giant described Early Access as an ongoing development stage, not a finished game. Its FAQ warned that players could encounter bugs, areas needing polish, and features or content still in active development. The studio said player feedback would help inform balance, gameplay feel, bug fixes, and future development.
What were the Early Access Packs?
The packs were digital Steam bundles. Frost Giant’s July 30 announcement listed these historical U.S. prices and contents; the prices should not be read as current:

The announcement described the bundle categories but did not provide a pack-by-pack item breakdown here. Buying a pack was one way to qualify for the July 30 preview; it was not necessary to access the free-to-play base game from August 13, 2024.
Is Stormgate still in Early Access?
Not according to Frost Giant’s later launch milestone: the studio identified Campaign One: Ashes of Earth as Stormgate’s official release out of Early Access on August 5, 2025. The campaign launched with 12 missions. Frost Giant described the game at that point as including the complete campaign and a robust 1v1 mode, while co-op missions and the editor remained works in progress. Steam’s listing gives August 5, 2025 as the release date and July 30, 2024 as the Early Access date.

Subsequent updates show development continued. In a March 3, 2026 community update, Frost Giant described a major Versus update as live, including ranked 2v2, new or updated maps, new units, editor tools, and balance and quality-of-life changes. That update does not establish whether online modes remain available now.

PC Gamer reported on April 1, 2026 that Stormgate’s server orchestration provider, Hathora, was winding down service and that Frost Giant expected online modes to become unavailable after the end of April. The report said the studio planned an offline patch and hoped to restore online play if it found an operations partner. That is a dated report of the studio’s expectations and plans, not confirmation of the game’s service state on October 8, 2026.
