World of Warcraft still runs on a Windows or macOS gaming PC; your phone, tablet, or TV acts as the screen and control endpoint. The practical setup is local game streaming: the PC renders WoW, sends its video and audio to the client device, and receives your keyboard-and-mouse input in return.
For the simplest route, use Steam Link. For more explicit control over which desktop application launches, use Moonlight on the client with Sunshine on the host PC. Neither option is cloud gaming, and neither removes the need for a PC that meets Blizzard’s current requirements, stays powered on, and can launch WoW.

Can I play WoW on my phone without installing it?
Yes, but only as a streamed session from a PC. You install a streaming client on the phone, not the Windows or macOS game itself; WoW remains installed and running on the host computer.
Valve describes its Remote Play architecture this way: When you play a game using Remote Play, video and audio are sent from your gaming PC to another device.
Your phone or tablet sends control input back to that computer. The PC therefore has to be powered on, available for the session, and able to open WoW and its launcher.

This distinction matters when deciding what the setup can do. Streaming does not turn an unsupported phone into a standalone WoW computer, and it does not make the game available when the host is asleep, shut down, or unable to launch the game.

Prepare the host PC, client device, network, and controls before opening a streaming app. The host does the rendering and encoding, so the client cannot compensate for a PC that fails WoW’s requirements.

Host PC checklist
- WoW installed on a Windows or macOS computer that meets Blizzard’s current requirements.
- Broadband internet access and enough storage, memory, and graphics capability for the installed game and operating system. Blizzard’s requirements page lists the applicable values and minimum display resolutions; check that page for the edition and operating system you use.
- The PC powered on and available throughout the session. It must be able to reach the desktop or launcher when the streaming client connects.
- Steam installed if you choose Steam Link, or Sunshine installed if you choose Moonlight.
- A keyboard and mouse. Blizzard’s current requirements identify those as required input and say other input devices are not supported.
Client-device checklist
- A supported Steam Link or Moonlight client for the phone, tablet, TV platform, Apple TV, Android TV device, Fire TV device, or computer you plan to use.
- A way to connect the keyboard and mouse at the destination. On a couch, a compact wireless set is usually more practical than short wired leads.
- A stable connection to the same local network as the host for the setup described here.
Network checklist
- Connect the host PC to the router with Ethernet when practical. Valve’s Steam Link hardware guidance strongly recommends a wired connection.
- Place a wireless client close enough to the router for a stable signal, or use a wired connection where the client supports it.

Which method should you use: Steam Link or Moonlight with Sunshine?
Start with Steam Link if you want the fewest decisions and already use Steam. Choose Moonlight with Sunshine when you prefer a dedicated game-streaming client or want to specify the applications and desktop paths available from the host.
Steam Link: the simpler first attempt
Steam Link provides a Steam-centered workflow and broad official client coverage. Valve documents clients for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Android phones and tablets, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Windows, macOS, Linux, Raspberry Pi, and other supported devices.
It is particularly convenient when the Steam client can expose the desktop or game path you need. The official material covers streaming a Steam Library to a TV and says virtually every game the computer runs can be streamed. It does not document a single, WoW-specific Battle.net shortcut procedure that works identically on every installation, so treat the launcher path as installation-dependent.
Moonlight plus Sunshine: more explicit host control
Moonlight separates the receiving client from the host service. Sunshine runs on the PC, Moonlight receives the picture, and you add the launcher or desktop path you want to start to Sunshine’s application list. Moonlight’s documentation describes Sunshine as its recommended host.

This arrangement is useful when you do not want the workflow centered on Steam or when you need to control which host applications appear in the client. It adds a host component and an application-configuration step, so it is not automatically the easier route.

The official material establishes the streaming architecture and supported platforms, not a controlled WoW comparison. There is no dated, independent figure here for latency, bitrate, frame rate, or image quality, so do not choose one on the promise of a specific performance number.
How do I stream World of Warcraft with Steam Link?
Install Steam on the PC, install Steam Link on the destination device, connect the two, and then launch WoW through the available Steam or desktop path. Keep a keyboard and mouse ready before you begin.

If the client connects but WoW is not visible, first verify that WoW launches normally at the PC. Then return to Steam Link’s available desktop or library path rather than assuming that a missing shortcut means the game cannot be streamed.
How do I stream World of Warcraft with Moonlight and Sunshine?
Install Sunshine on the WoW PC, Moonlight on the receiving device, pair them, and add the WoW launcher or desktop route to Sunshine’s application list.
- Install Sunshine on the host PC. Use the computer that meets Blizzard’s WoW requirements and can already launch the game.

If Moonlight sees the host but the application does not start, check the path configured in Sunshine and test that the same launcher opens directly on the PC. The client cannot repair a broken launcher entry.
How do I stream WoW to a phone or tablet?
A phone is convenient for short sessions, while a tablet provides more screen area for interface-heavy play. In both cases, the control arrangement is more important than the display size because Blizzard requires keyboard-and-mouse input.

Do I need Ethernet to stream WoW?

The client cannot find the PC
- Confirm the host PC is powered on, awake, and running Steam or Sunshine as appropriate.

- If the host still does not appear, verify that the streaming software is installed on the intended PC rather than on a different computer.
The stream opens, but WoW does not
