Subnautica 2 launched in Early Access on May 14, 2026, at 08:00 PDT (15:00 UTC). It is playable now, but that date is not the full 1.0 release: the game remains in Early Access, and no confirmed full-release date has been announced.
When did Subnautica 2 release?
Unknown Worlds launched Subnautica 2 in Early Access on May 14, 2026. The studio announced the launch time as 08:00 PDT / 15:00 UTC. The date and time refer to the Early Access launch, not a finished 1.0 release. Unknown Worlds’ launch-day announcement confirmed the game was starting Early Access that day.
Is Subnautica 2 out yet?
Yes. As of October 8, 2026, the game is available in Early Access. Unknown Worlds’ news listing shows the Buddy System update and a second hotfix dated October 6, 2026, indicating development is continuing after launch. See Unknown Worlds’ news listing.
When is Subnautica 2’s full release?
There is no confirmed date for the full 1.0 release. Steam’s developer-provided Early Access description estimates the phase may take about two to three years, based on the studio’s previous projects, but also says the duration is difficult to predict accurately. That estimate is not a schedule or a promised launch window. Steam’s Early Access page says the game is incomplete and may change during development.

Where can you play Subnautica 2?
The launch announcement links to Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox/Microsoft Store. The Xbox Game Preview version launched on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC; Xbox Wire said it was available day one through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Store and subscription availability or terms can vary, so check the relevant storefront for your region. Xbox Wire’s launch coverage covers the Xbox release and Game Pass access.
Can you play Subnautica 2 alone or in co-op?
Both options are available: you can play solo or invite up to three friends. Xbox Wire describes the co-op as cross-platform, allowing players to invite friends on other platforms. Multiplayer is optional; you do not need a group to play.
What was Subnautica 2’s Early Access price?
Unknown Worlds announced a U.S. Early Access launch price of $29.99. The studio said pricing would be localized by region, so the current price may differ outside the United States and should be checked at the chosen storefront. That depends on whether you want to play an actively developing game or prefer a more complete release. Early Access means features, content, and polish can change as the studio continues development. Steam’s description outlines the unfinished state and planned additions and fixes. If you would rather wait for more content and a finished version, there is no confirmed 1.0 date to plan around.
