For SuiteCRM 8.10.x in 2026, choose a VPS that can run Apache 2.4, PHP 8.2, 8.3 or 8.4, and MySQL 8.0/8.4 or MariaDB 10.6, 10.11, 11.4 or 11.8. You also need PHP extensions, Apache URL rewriting, a document root pointed at SuiteCRM’s public directory, a cron job, and—starting with SuiteCRM 8.10—a continuously running Symfony Messenger worker. SuiteCRM publishes no universal CPU or RAM minimum, so size the machine from your users, data and background workload rather than relying on an arbitrary “2 GB VPS” rule.

The current compatibility row for SuiteCRM 8.10.x defines the versions your server must support. These are compatibility constraints, not a guarantee that a provider’s image is correctly configured or that every combination has been tested on your particular distribution.

For a normal VPS deployment, the practical architecture is a LAMP-style stack: Apache serves the application, PHP executes it, and MySQL or MariaDB stores the data. Confirm the exact minor versions available in your chosen operating-system image before ordering. A host offering only PHP 8.1 or an older database branch does not meet the 8.10.x compatibility row, even if the provider advertises “PHP support” generally.
PHP versions: what changed after SuiteCRM 8.6
SuiteCRM 8.7 and later
SuiteCRM 8.7, released on 3 October 2024, states that the minimum PHP version is 8.1. PHP 7.4 will not work from 8.7 onward. The compatibility matrix identifies SuiteCRM 8.6 as the last branch for which PHP 7.4 was considered.

SuiteCRM 8.10.x in 2026
The current 8.10.x row supports PHP 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4. If you are provisioning a new server, select one of those versions rather than installing an older PHP release and planning to upgrade later. Check both the command-line PHP binary and the PHP handler Apache uses; a server can expose one version in a shell and run another for web requests.
Do not infer that every future SuiteCRM release will accept all three versions. Recheck the compatibility matrix when you upgrade the application or PHP, and test extensions and scheduled jobs after a version change.

Enable the following PHP modules before running the installer:

IMAP and LDAP are optional in the installation guide. Enable IMAP when your deployment needs mailbox polling through that protocol, and LDAP when you intend to authenticate or look up directory users through LDAP. Optional does not mean universally required; leave them out if your design does not use those integrations, but verify the installer and the relevant feature before going live.

Memory limit is not VPS memory
A legacy installation-prerequisite page recommends a PHP memory_limit of at least 128M. That value describes the amount of memory one PHP process may use; it is not a recommendation that the entire VPS have 128 MB of RAM, nor is it a complete server-sizing specification. The current documentation does not publish a universal RAM or CPU minimum.
Apache configuration that prevents common failures
Enable URL rewriting
SuiteCRM Core API calls rely on Apache rewrite rules. If rewriting is disabled or the required override settings are not allowed, routes such as api/graphql can return HTTP 404 even though the application files exist. Confirm that the Apache rewrite module is enabled and that the virtual host permits the SuiteCRM rules to be applied. After changing Apache configuration, reload the service and test an authenticated API request and the browser application, not just the home page.
Use the public directory as the document root
Point the virtual-host document root at SuiteCRM’s public directory, not the project’s parent directory. This keeps files outside the intended web root from being directly exposed. A working front page is not proof that the document root is safe: inspect the virtual-host definition and test that application internals cannot be downloaded by guessing a path.
Production versus development tooling
The pre-built installable ZIP is intended to run without front-end development dependencies. Node, Angular CLI, and yarn/npm are development tools and are not required in production for that package. Installing them does not compensate for a missing PHP extension, an incorrect Apache root, or an unsupported PHP version.

Background jobs: cron and the Messenger worker
Why cron is required
SuiteCRM requires a cron job to execute scheduled tasks, including workflows, email checks and report generation. Without cron, the web interface may load normally while time-dependent features silently stop running. Configure the job under an account with the permissions needed to access the SuiteCRM installation, and record its output or errors so a failed schedule is visible to an administrator.
What changed in SuiteCRM 8.10
Starting with SuiteCRM 8.10, asynchronous tasks such as manual migrations are processed by the Symfony Messenger worker. Cron alone is not enough for these tasks. A worker must remain running and be restarted when the host reboots or the process exits. If it is absent, jobs remain in a pending state even when the migration was started successfully in the browser.

- Set up and verify the SuiteCRM cron schedule.
- Run the Messenger worker under a dedicated service or process supervisor so it starts automatically and is restarted after failure.
- Give the worker access to the same application files, PHP configuration and environment as the web process.
- Monitor worker output, cron execution and disk space; a full filesystem can make both queues and logs appear stuck.
- After upgrades or reboots, check that the cron entry and worker are still active before accepting new background work.
The exact service-manager configuration depends on your operating system, so use the process supervisor supported by your distribution. The essential requirement is a persistent worker, not a particular vendor or control panel.
How much CPU, RAM and storage does SuiteCRM need?
SuiteCRM’s current compatibility and installation pages do not publish a universal table of CPU cores, RAM, disk size or concurrent users. Treat any fixed figure presented as an “official minimum”—for example, 2 GB of RAM or four cores—with caution. Those numbers are not established requirements in the current documentation.

Inputs that determine the correct VPS size
- Users and concurrency: simultaneous browser sessions and API clients determine web-process and database pressure.
- Database growth: contacts, activities, audit history and reporting data require storage and increasingly capable database I/O over time.
- File uploads: documents and attachments can outgrow the database’s initial footprint.
- Imports and reports: large imports and complex reports create short CPU, RAM and database-I/O spikes.
- Email polling and workflows: frequent mailbox checks and automation add recurring background load.
- Service placement: sharing Apache, PHP, the database, cron and the Messenger worker on one VPS needs more headroom than separating the database or worker.
- Backups and upgrades: local backup staging and temporary upgrade files consume additional disk space.
A defensible sizing method
- List expected users, peak simultaneous sessions, integrations, mailbox frequency, workflow volume, import size and annual data growth.
- Start with a VPS that meets every software-version requirement and has fast, persistent storage; do not trade compatibility for a larger but obsolete image.
- Measure CPU utilization, memory pressure, PHP process usage, database latency, disk I/O and queue duration during normal and peak work.
- Leave capacity for cron, Messenger jobs, backups and an application upgrade. A server that is adequate only when no scheduled work runs is undersized.
- Increase resources or separate services when measurements show sustained pressure, slow reports, queue buildup or swap activity.
This approach produces a workload-based capacity plan without pretending that a single hardware number fits every SuiteCRM installation.

A managed Linux VPS can be a practical fit when you need help maintaining this stack, but confirm that management includes the versions and long-running process controls SuiteCRM requires. Backup claims are meaningful only when restores are tested and the retention period matches your recovery objectives.
Installation checklist for a new server
- Confirm the release target. For SuiteCRM 8.10.x, select PHP 8.2, 8.3 or 8.4 and a listed MySQL or MariaDB version.
- Prepare Apache 2.4. Enable URL rewriting, configure the virtual host and set its document root to SuiteCRM’s
publicdirectory. - Install PHP and extensions. Verify every required module—especially
intl,gd,mbstring,mysqli,pdo_mysql,soap,xmlandzip—from the same PHP version Apache will execute. - Configure the database. Create the SuiteCRM database and account using a supported MySQL or MariaDB release, with credentials stored securely.
- Set PHP memory and limits. Use at least the legacy guide’s 128M
memory_limitrecommendation, then adjust based on observed imports, reports and concurrency. - Run the installer. Resolve prerequisite warnings before creating production users or importing data.
- Activate scheduled work. Add cron and verify that a scheduled task actually runs.
- Activate asynchronous work. Start and supervise the Symfony Messenger worker for SuiteCRM 8.10 and later.
- Test the complete path. Check the browser UI, an API route, a workflow, an email check, a report and a background migration or other queued task.
Troubleshooting by symptom
API or GraphQL route returns 404
- Confirm the Apache rewrite module and virtual-host override permissions.
- Verify the document root is SuiteCRM’s
publicdirectory. - Reload Apache after configuration changes and retest the exact API path.
- Check that the request is reaching the intended virtual host rather than a default site.
Scheduled workflows, email checks or reports never run
- Confirm the cron entry exists under the account intended to run SuiteCRM.
- Inspect cron output and system logs for permission, path or PHP-version errors.
- Run a harmless scheduled task and verify its timestamp or resulting record changes.
- Check disk space and file permissions if cron starts but cannot write logs or generated files.
Manual migration or another asynchronous task stays pending
- Check that the Symfony Messenger worker is running; SuiteCRM 8.10 moved these tasks to that worker.
- Confirm the worker uses the same PHP binary, application path and environment as the web process.
- Review worker logs for a crashed process, rejected message or database connection failure.
- Restart the supervised worker after correcting the underlying error, then observe the queue rather than repeatedly submitting the same task.
The installer reports missing prerequisites
Compare the web process’s PHP version and loaded modules with the required list. A module installed for command-line PHP may be absent from Apache’s PHP handler. Also check that the selected database version is one of the supported releases and that the PHP memory limit is not below the configured prerequisite.

Security and maintenance decisions that affect capacity
Keep the web root limited to public, apply operating-system and PHP security updates within SuiteCRM’s supported versions, and maintain tested backups. Monitor disk growth from uploads, logs, database files and backup staging. Plan maintenance windows for PHP or database upgrades because compatibility is version-specific; upgrading the operating system image without checking the SuiteCRM matrix can leave you with an unsupported PHP or database combination.
Record the exact SuiteCRM release, PHP minor version, database engine and minor version, enabled extensions, cron definition and worker service configuration. That inventory makes a rebuild or rollback reproducible and helps distinguish an application regression from a server mismatch.
Bottom line for a 2026 VPS
A suitable SuiteCRM 8.10.x VPS is defined by a supported stack and dependable background processing, not by a headline RAM number. Use Apache 2.4 with the public document root, PHP 8.2–8.4 with all required extensions, MySQL 8.0/8.4 or the listed MariaDB releases, working rewrite rules, cron and a supervised Symfony Messenger worker. Then size CPU, memory and storage from measured users, data and job volume, leaving room for backups and upgrades.
