That wider calendar was not one unified trade show equivalent to the former E3. It included separately produced publisher presentations, indie showcases, hands-on events and media gatherings.

The main show started on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 2 p.m. Pacific Time and 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The presentation was expected to last about two hours, although that was an approximate runtime rather than a promise of exactly 120 minutes.

The UK time was 10 p.m. BST, not 10 p.m. GMT. June falls within the UK’s daylight-saving period, so using “GMT” without qualification could give readers the wrong local time.
Where could you watch it?
The safest options were the official Summer Game Fest or The Game Awards streams on YouTube and the official Twitch broadcast. The event was also distributed through TikTok, X, Steam and international partners, according to the official announcement.
- YouTube: The best all-purpose option for resolution controls, accessibility features, replay and rewind.
- Twitch: A good choice for live chat, creator co-streams and viewers already using the platform.
- TikTok or X: Convenient for social-platform users, though less ideal for a long presentation.
- Steam: Useful for PC players who wanted to watch within the gaming storefront and browse supported games.
- Authorized embeds: Gaming websites offered fallback players, but these could include commentary, extra delay or technical problems.
For a live event, the practical approach was to open the official YouTube page before the start time and select Notify me when available. Joining 10 to 15 minutes early also allowed time for the pre-show and reduced the chance of missing the opening announcement. Unofficial restreams could have different commentary, lower image quality, additional delay or unauthorized music.

What was confirmed before the show?
More than 55 companies were promoted as partners in the broader Summer Game Fest program. The list included major names such as Capcom, Epic Games, PlayStation and Xbox. That did not mean that every partner had a confirmed game appearance in the flagship livestream.
A company could participate through a trailer, update, demo, separate showcase or another part of the wider June program. Organizers did not publish a complete, game-by-game running order. The distinction mattered: a partner list was not a confirmed lineup.
What could viewers realistically expect?
High-confidence categories
The strongest expectations were for:
- Trailers and gameplay updates for already announced games
- Release dates and launch-window announcements
- Live-service updates, expansions and downloadable content
- Indie and mid-budget games
- A handful of new or “world premiere” announcements
That mix reflected the event’s advertised format and the structure of previous Summer Game Fest presentations. Viewers looking for a useful forecast should have expected variety rather than one single type of reveal.

Plausible but unconfirmed predictions
Pre-event coverage discussed possible appearances by major publishers and games. Those reports were predictions, not confirmations. A title should have been treated as part of the lineup only when organizers or the publisher explicitly confirmed it.
Low-confidence expectations
There was little reason to assume the show would deliver a new Grand Theft Auto reveal, a major unannounced PlayStation first-party game, a new Nintendo announcement during the SGF broadcast itself, or long-running rumor targets such as Half-Life 3. Those were speculation and meme-status expectations, not reliable viewing information.
Geoff Keighley also cautioned before the event that viewers should not expect a show dominated by enormous, previously unannounced blockbuster reveals. The sensible framing was a showcase of updates, trailers, dates and selected premieres—not a guaranteed replacement for E3.

What else was happening during SGF week?
The flagship livestream was only one part of the June schedule. Separate or adjacent events included:
- Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition: An indie-focused presentation from Double Fine and iam8bit that followed the main broadcast.
- Xbox Games Showcase: A separate Microsoft presentation, followed by the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct.
- Ubisoft Forward: A separate Ubisoft presentation.
- Future Games Show and PC Gaming Show: Independent showcases covering upcoming games.
- Wholesome Direct and Access-Ability Summer Showcase: Additional themed presentations.
- IGN Live: A separate fan and media event.
- SGF Play Days: An invite-only hands-on event for media and influencers, scheduled for June 8–10, 2024.
These events were part of the broader summer showcase season, but they were not all produced by Summer Game Fest. The distinction is especially important when interpreting schedules that use “SGF” as shorthand for every gaming presentation in June.
What was actually announced?
Because this is now an archived guide, the final results are more useful than the pre-show predictions. Notable announcements and updates from the main showcase included:
- LEGO Horizon Adventures: Announced for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC.
- Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions: Given a September 3, 2024 release date.
- Once Human: Given a July 9, 2024 release date.
- Monster Hunter Wilds: Received new information, including returning monsters and cross-play details.
- Phantom Blade Zero: Shown with new gameplay footage.
- Metaphor: ReFantazio: Shown with additional footage and dated for October 11, 2024.
- Civilization 7: Announced for 2025.
- Valorant: Console versions were announced.
- Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess: Dated for July 19, 2024.
- Alan Wake 2: Received physical-edition news.
