That is a practical recommendation, not a universal winner. Choose based on how familiar you want the game to feel, how much complexity you enjoy, and whether you plan to play static, custom, or weekly packs.
How Super Auto Pets packs work
Super Auto Pets has six static packs listed by a community-maintained wiki: Turtle, Puppy, Star, Golden, Unicorn, and Danger. The wiki lists Turtle as free, Puppy at $5 USD, and each of Star, Golden, Unicorn, and Danger at $10 USD. These are not verified current storefront prices; check the price on your platform and in your region before buying.
The same overview lists two $5 mini packs, which add pets for custom packs but cannot be played as standalone packs. A weekly pack changes each week and draws pets from packs, while custom packs let players build a roster from unlocked pets and foods. Static-pack players generally face the same static pack unless the all-packs option is enabled; custom and weekly modes match players within their respective modes. See the pack overview for the community wiki’s mode and pack listing.
Which pack is the best first expansion?
Puppy Pack: the familiar step up
A cited buying guide recommends Puppy as a practical first expansion for players coming from Turtle: it calls Puppy the closest to Turtle and says it costs half as much as the other main expansions. The guide’s price comparison should not be treated as a current storefront quote. Puppy is a sensible pick if you want to learn a new roster without making the transition feel as large as a more complex pack.

Star Pack: for a steeper learning curve
The guide rates Star as the most complex option among the listed expansions, pointing to its many archetypes and complicated abilities and synergies. That makes it a stronger candidate if you enjoy planning and learning interactions, rather than seeking a gentle first step. This is the guide’s subjective assessment, not the result of a measured player study.
Golden Pack: more familiar progression, with an attack and positioning emphasis
The available guide description says Golden games often progress more like Turtle, with attack, positioning, and in-battle synergy emphasized. It gives Golden a rough difficulty rating of 3, but does not provide a full current breakdown of its mechanics. Treat it as a possible fit if that broad style appeals to you, not as a definitive mechanics comparison.

Unicorn and Danger: compare in-game before choosing
Unicorn and Danger appear in the current pack list and the guide’s rough difficulty scale, but the available descriptions do not establish their signature mechanics confidently. Check their current in-game pack details and available pets before choosing based on a specific play style.
Turtle Pack: the free baseline
Turtle is the free baseline and the simplest reference point in the guide’s rough scale. If you are still learning the core game, there is no need to buy an expansion before you are ready.

How difficult are the packs to learn?
The buying guide offers this rough, subjective scale, based on familiarity and number of archetypes, ability complexity, and synergy demands—not on a measured study of players:
| Pack | Guide’s rough difficulty | What the guide establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Turtle | 1 | Simplest reference point |
| Puppy | 2 | Closest expansion to Turtle |
| Danger | 3 | Included in the guide’s scale; no detailed signature-mechanic description established |
| Golden | 3 | Often progresses more like Turtle, with attack, positioning, and in-battle synergy emphasized |
| Unicorn | 4 | Included in the guide’s scale; no detailed signature-mechanic description established |
| Star | 5 | Many archetypes, complicated abilities, and synergies |
Use the numbers as a rough orientation, not a precise ranking of how hard every match will be. For current ability details, consult the game itself; pack rosters and mechanics can change.

- At the start of Super Kawaii Pets, players choose from sad Animal cards in the middle of the table and draw Help and Location cards to plan their moves.
- On each turn, select two cards from the Animal and Help decks to add to your hand, and play Animal cards to gain valuable benefits.
- Pay the cost in Help cards to flip your sad Animal cards to their happy sides, preparing them to meet the requirements of a Location card.
- Claim Location cards by assigning Happy Animals to their new homes, earning Victory Points and potential bonus cards for added strategy.
- End the game with a combination of 10 Happy Animals and Location cards, tallying up Victory Points to determine the winner in this charming and strategic card game.
Should you buy for static, custom, or weekly play?
Choose a static pack to queue into that pack’s roster
If you mainly want to play a specific static pack, choose among the six packs based on the roster and learning curve you want. Check the mode’s matchmaking behavior, especially if you expect to play against only that pack: the overview says static-pack players generally face the same static pack unless the all-packs option is enabled.
Choose a pack for custom construction if you will build custom packs
Owning a pack generally makes its pets available for custom pack creation. For example, the custom-pack guide says you need to own Golden Pack to use a Golden Pack pet in a custom pack. The value of an expansion is therefore different if you intend to build custom rosters than if you only queue into static packs. Check a specific pet’s access rules before assuming it is available.

Weekly packs are a separate way to play
The overview describes weekly packs as changing each week and using pets from packs. It says pets from all packs can be used in weekly packs, but individual exceptions and access rules can change; verify a particular pet in-game. Weekly and custom players are matched within their respective modes according to the overview.
