Vampire Survivors is real-time survival action; Vampire Crawlers is a turn-based deckbuilder with first-person dungeon exploration. The newer game is an official spin-off set in the same world, not simply another version of the original’s wave-survival loop.

How the two games differ

What you’re comparing Vampire Survivors Vampire Crawlers
Relationship The original game and setting. An official spin-off sharing characters, items, and in-jokes with Vampire Survivors. In a November 2025 interview, poncle founder Luca Galante described it as a spin-off, not the sequel the studio was developing separately at that time (Xbox Wire).
Core play Real-time, top-down survival action against enemy waves—a “reverse bullet hell,” as Xbox Wire calls it. Turn-based roguelite deckbuilding: play cards to fight enemies, build a deck, and explore dungeons between battles (Steam; Xbox Wire).
Combat decisions Survive as enemy pressure builds during the run. Sequence cards in ascending mana cost to chain and amplify effects. Wild cards and card customization can extend combos; you can also choose how quickly to play turns (Steam; Nintendo).
Space and exploration Its defining format is action-focused wave survival. First-person, grid-based movement through dungeons, with walls, treasure, interactions, and multiple floors (Xbox Wire; Nintendo).

What stays familiar

Crawlers carries over the Survivors world, characters, items, and humor, while applying the series’ accessible, immediate, replayable design sensibility to a different genre. Galante summed up its premise in the interview: “Jokes aside, this game is just a dungeon crawler you play with cards!” (Xbox Wire).

Which one should you play?

Choose Vampire Survivors if…

  • You want immediate real-time action and the pressure of surviving enemy waves.
  • You prefer a survival run over sequencing cards and making turn-by-turn tactical choices.

Choose Vampire Crawlers if…

  • You enjoy deckbuilding and planning card order to build combos.
  • You want active dungeon exploration between battles, rather than a game centered on wave survival.
  • You like the original’s world and characters but want a different kind of game.

Release, platforms, and completion estimate

Vampire Crawlers launched on April 21, 2026. poncle lists Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation, and says controller support is included (poncle FAQ). The FAQ described mobile versions as planned for later in 2026; check current platform stores for availability rather than assuming they have launched.

poncle estimates 20–30 hours to complete the game, with longer play likely if you pursue every unlock. That is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently measured playtime (poncle FAQ).

Price and buying advice

poncle’s FAQ gave a US launch price of $9.99. Treat that as a launch-price reference, not a guaranteed current or regional price: discounts, regional pricing, and platform listings can change. Check the store for your platform and region before buying (poncle FAQ).
