Should you choose version 1.2 or the current stable release?
The project’s download page identifies version 1.5 as its latest stable release, and its release history includes versions newer than 1.2. Choose the archived 1.2 packages only if you need that specific version; otherwise, use the official download page to find the current stable release. What changed in SuperTuxKart 1.2?
The August 27, 2020 announcement highlighted a change to SDL2 for window creation and input handling, replacing the previous Irrlicht-based handling. The team also reported improved gamepad handling, hotplug support (connecting or disconnecting a gamepad while the game is running), fixes for gamepad-related bugs, and easier control remapping. Can you play with a keyboard or controller?
Yes. The project FAQ lists a keyboard, gamepad, and gaming wheel as suitable input methods. For players who prefer a gamepad, it recommends one with at least six buttons. SuperTuxKart 1.2’s input changes were intended to improve gamepad handling and make remapping easier, but the project’s published information does not establish compatibility for every individual device.
