Clearing the Nintendo Switch 2 cache and reinstalling a broken game update are separate fixes. Clear Cache removes saved website and sign-in-related data for the selected user; it does not reinstall an update or delete downloaded games or save data. How do you clear the Switch 2 cache?
Use the system’s Clear Cache command for the user whose cached website or sign-in data you want to remove. This does not clear a game’s update data.
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose Formatting Options.
- Select Clear Cache.
- Choose the relevant user and confirm.
The selected user’s saved website and sign-in-related data is removed, so you may need to enter website credentials again. Nintendo says this action does not affect downloaded software or save data. If your goal is to repair a game update, continue with the game-specific checks below rather than treating cache clearing as the fix.

How do you check a Switch 2 game for corrupt data?
Run Nintendo’s check on the affected title before deleting or reacquiring software. The result helps distinguish a corrupt-data finding from an update that simply failed to apply.
- Open System Settings from HOME.
- Select Data Management, then Software.
- Choose the affected game.
- Select Check for Corrupt Data and follow the on-screen result.
If the check identifies a problem, follow the console’s instructions and then try the update again. If it does not identify corruption, retry the update; a failed download alone does not prove the installed game data is corrupt.
How do you retry a game update over the internet?
Use the game’s Options menu to request its available update again. This is the direct retry path, whether you own the game digitally or on a physical card.

- Press + or − to open Options.
- Choose Software Update.
- Select Via the Internet and follow the prompts.
Allow the console to complete the update request. If the update still will not apply, move to a clean software download rather than looking for a separate update-data deletion option.
How do you reinstall a game update without deleting saves?
Nintendo does not provide a separate option to delete a game’s update data through its software-deletion procedure. To make the game software download fresh, delete the software—not the save data—then obtain the base game again and request its update.
- Open System Settings → Data Management → Software and select the affected game.
- Choose the option to delete the game’s software. Do not choose Delete Save Data.
- Get the base game again using the route for your copy: redownload a previously acquired digital title, or use the physical game card.
- Once the game is available on the system, highlight it on HOME and choose Options → Software Update → Via the Internet.
Deleting software and deleting save data are different actions. The reinstall process described here does not call for deleting the save; take care to select the software-management option, not the save-data option.

If you own the digital game
Use Nintendo’s redownload route for a digital game you previously acquired. After the base software is available again, request its update from the game’s Options menu. A digital title must be reacquired as software; it is not a physical-card installation.
If you own the physical game
Use the game card to make the base game available again, then request the update through Options → Software Update → Via the Internet. The update is obtained through the console’s update path; the card is the physical-game route, not an eShop redownload.
What if the update still will not install?
A cache clear or fresh software download is not a guaranteed fix. If the corrupt-data check and update retry do not resolve the issue, use Nintendo’s guidance for an update that will not apply; the next step can depend on the particular game and circumstances.

What if there is not enough storage to download the game?
Insufficient space can prevent a download, but extra storage does not repair corrupt update data. Nintendo identifies microSD Express as the compatible memory-card format for Switch 2; do not assume an ordinary microSD card is interchangeable.
Can you delete only a Switch 2 game update?
No separate update-data deletion action is provided in Nintendo’s software-deletion procedure. If a clean download is needed, delete the game software, obtain the base game again through the correct digital or physical route, and then request the update.
