When DISM finishes, run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after SFC completes. If the file was damaged or removed from the Windows component store, this sequence can restore the correct protected copy.
What sysntfy.dll is
The file is identified as the Windows Notifications Dynamic Link Library. Public Windows inventories associate it with Microsoft Corporation and Microsoft Windows. Its internal role is not fully documented publicly, but examined Windows builds export notification-related functions.
The exact version and size depend on the installed Windows build. There is no single “latest sysntfy.dll” that should be copied to every Windows computer.
On 64-bit Windows, native system files are normally stored in C:WindowsSystem32. A 32-bit application may use Windows file-system redirection and interact with files under C:WindowsSysWOW64. That does not mean you should copy either version manually. The correct file must come from Windows servicing for the exact installation and architecture.
sysntfy.dll is a Windows component, not a separately installed application dependency. A message from one program may still be caused by that program, an antivirus action, a damaged Windows installation, or a misleading dependency check.
What the different errors mean
These messages generally indicate that Windows or an application could not load the DLL:
- “sysntfy.dll is missing from your computer”: the loader could not find the expected file.
- “sysntfy.dll Not Found”: the file was not found at the location or through the search path being used.
- “sysntfy.dll file cannot be loaded”: Windows found a reference to the file but could not load it.
- “Module was not found”: the named file, or a dependency required by it, could not be located.
- “Not designed to run on Windows”: the file may be corrupt, incompatible with the process architecture, or not a genuine matching Windows file.
The first visible error is not always the original cause. For example, an application may report sysntfy.dll while the underlying problem is damaged Windows servicing, a quarantined file, or an application using an incorrect dependency path.
Fix 1: Repair Windows system files
This is the most important fix when several applications show the error or the problem began after an update, crash, cleanup operation, or unexpected shutdown.
Run Windows Update first
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Test the affected application.
If the error remains, run the repair commands.
Run DISM and SFC
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
cmd
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the command to finish successfully. Do not close the window while it is working.
- Enter:
cmd
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and open the program again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses as a repair source. SFC checks protected system files and can replace an incorrect or damaged version.

If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupt files, restart and retest. If it reports that it found corrupt files but could not repair some of them, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC. For deeper diagnosis, review:
%windir%LogsCBSCBS.log
Do not copy a DLL into System32 or SysWOW64 after SFC fails. That bypasses Windows servicing and can make future repairs harder.
Running DISM and SFC manually means interpreting lengthy output and repeating the process when the repair source is unclear. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the condition and show what needs attention; its repair actions require the full version. It is optional, and Windows’ built-in DISM and SFC remain the appropriate first repair.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a system file after a false detection. This is especially relevant if sysntfy.dll disappeared suddenly and Windows repair did not restore it.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent entries for
sysntfy.dllor a related Windows system-file detection. - Open the detection details and check the file path and publisher information.
Restore the file only when you have verified that it is the legitimate Microsoft-signed file and the detection is a false positive. Do not disable antivirus protection simply to obtain a DLL.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If you restore a verified file, update Windows Security and run a scan. If the detection returns, leave the file quarantined and investigate the security product’s report rather than repeatedly restoring it. A full scan, or Microsoft Defender Offline scan when malware is suspected, is safer than downloading a replacement.
Fix 3: Use Windows 11’s repair reinstall
Windows 11 may provide a repair option that reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving applications, personal files, and settings.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select System > Recovery.
- Look for Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Restart when prompted and test the application.
The option is not available on every Windows installation. If you do not see it, use supported Windows installation media and select the in-place installation option that keeps personal files and apps where applicable. Confirm the choices carefully before proceeding.
This option is more appropriate than manually replacing sysntfy.dll when DISM and SFC cannot restore the component or when Windows servicing remains damaged.

- Select Repair.
- If Repair does not help, select Reset only if you understand that it may remove the program’s local settings.
- If neither option exists, uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the current installer from the application’s official publisher.
- Install it again and test it.
Do not copy sysntfy.dll from C:WindowsSystem32 into the application’s directory. A program that loads a Windows DLL from its own folder may use the wrong file or architecture, and copying system files can create a second, harder-to-diagnose problem.
A dependency-analysis utility can also give misleading results. Delayed imports, API-set behavior, and 32-bit-versus-64-bit confusion may make a system DLL appear missing even when Windows can load it normally. If the program starts after repair or reinstall, the diagnostic warning was not proof that a standalone DLL was required.
Fix 5: Confirm 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
On 64-bit Windows, native system files are generally stored in System32, while 32-bit processes normally use the redirected SysWOW64 location.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →This naming is confusing: System32 is commonly the native 64-bit system directory, and SysWOW64 supports 32-bit applications. Do not use the folder name alone to decide which file to download or copy.
If the error appears only in a 32-bit application:
- Check whether the publisher offers a newer build.
- Repair or reinstall that application from its official installer.
- Confirm that the application supports your Windows architecture.
- Avoid copying files between
System32,SysWOW64, and the application’s folder. - Test the program after DISM and SFC have completed.
If a developer’s diagnostic tool reports a missing dependency, ask the developer to confirm the process architecture and expected Windows build before changing system files.
Fix 6: Consider a recent driver, program, or system change
A new application or driver can expose an existing Windows problem or alter the conditions under which the error appears. The file itself is not normally repaired through Device Manager.
If the problem began immediately after installing software or a driver:
Recommended Free Tools
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update > Update history and review recent changes.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove the recently installed application if appropriate.
- For a driver, open Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Use Roll Back Driver only if Windows offers it and the timing clearly matches the problem.
- Restart and test again.
Do not expect Windows Features, DirectX setup, or a Visual C++ package to restore sysntfy.dll. Those components are unrelated to this Windows system DLL unless the affected application’s publisher specifically identifies a separate runtime problem.
Finding the correct driver version manually can involve checking multiple hardware entries and matching each one to the installed Windows build. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues, while driver installation through the full version is optional. If the error belongs to one application, repairing or reinstalling that application remains the definitive fix.

No. Avoid isolated DLL download sites sites.
A downloaded file may have the wrong Windows build, wrong architecture, altered contents, or malware. It may also appear to fix one message while leaving the damaged component store or application installation unchanged.
Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, Windows recovery, Windows installation media, or the affected application’s official installer. These sources can provide files appropriate to the installation being repaired.
When to use System Restore or reinstall Windows
Use System Restore when:
- the error started immediately after an application or driver installation;
- restore points are available;
- DISM and SFC do not resolve the problem.
Open Start, type Recovery, select Recovery, then choose Open System Restore. Select a restore point from before the problem began and review the affected programs before confirming.

- multiple Windows components are failing;
- DISM cannot repair the component store;
- SFC repeatedly cannot repair files;
- malware or disk damage affected more than one system area;

Back up important files first. A full reset or clean installation can remove applications and data, so use less destructive recovery options where they are suitable.
FAQ
Is sysntfy.dll a third-party application file?
No. It is a Microsoft Windows system DLL. An application may be the program that displays the error, but that does not make the file part of that application’s normal installation.
Where should sysntfy.dll be?
The commonly expected location is:
C:WindowsSystem32sysntfy.dll
On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit processes may be affected by file-system redirection. Do not assume that a particular x86 copy exists on every Windows release.
Does reinstalling the affected program always fix it?
No. Reinstalling helps when the program has an incorrect dependency or damaged installation. If Windows itself is missing or corrupting the file, repair Windows with DISM and SFC.
What information should I collect if the error continues?
Record:
- Windows edition and build;
- the application’s name and version;
- the complete error text;
- the path shown in the message;
- whether
C:WindowsSystem32sysntfy.dllexists; - recent Windows, application, driver, or antivirus changes;
- relevant entries in Event Viewer.
This information distinguishes a missing Windows component from an application-specific loading or architecture problem.
