- One game or application stopped launching: Verify, repair, update, or reinstall that program.
- The error began after an antivirus detection: Check Windows Security Protection history and restore the file only when the application and file are trustworthy.
- The message says “procedure entry point not found”: The DLL is probably the wrong version or does not match another bundled TBB file. Restore the application’s complete runtime instead of copying a replacement.
- The message says the file is “not designed to run on Windows” or contains an error: Suspect corruption, an incomplete update, wrong architecture, or a damaged installation.
- Several applications have missing system files: Run DISM and SFC after repairing the affected application.
- The error also names

- You found
tbbmalloc.dllonline: Do not use it as the first repair. A random copy may contain malware, target the wrong architecture, or belong to an incompatible TBB release.
What tbbmalloc.dll does
tbbmalloc.dll is the Windows release library for the scalable memory allocator in Intel Threading Building Blocks, now called Intel oneAPI Threading Building Blocks, or oneTBB. Applications use this allocator as part of their performance and parallel-processing runtime.

It is not a normal Windows component. Windows does not generally expect it in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Applications, games, plugins, and creative software commonly keep their own copy beside the program executable. An application may redistribute, rebuild, or privately package the runtime, so the copy required by one program may not work with another.

The filename alone does not prove that a file is safe. Check its location, signature, source, and antivirus status before trusting it.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the program named in the error
This is the correct first fix because tbbmalloc.dll normally belongs to the application that is trying to start.
First, read the full error window and identify the program. If the message appears while starting a game, the game is the likely owner. If it appears while opening creative, engineering, media, or other desktop software, repair that application rather than Windows.
Repair an application through Windows
On Windows 11:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
Windows may not show Advanced options or Repair for traditional desktop programs. Microsoft documents the available repair methods in its Windows app and program repair guidance.
For older desktop software:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if available.
- Follow the installer prompts and restart Windows if requested.
If repair is unavailable or does not restore the file, uninstall the application, restart the computer, and install it again from its official publisher, store, or launcher. Do not delete unrelated DLLs from Windows folders during this process.
Verify a game’s files
For a Steam game:
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click the game and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the check to finish, then launch the game.
For an Epic Games title:
- Open Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Select the three dots beside the game.
- Choose Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Start the game after verification completes.
A successful verification or repair normally reports that files were checked or reacquired. If the error remains, restart Windows and repeat the application’s update process. If that still fails, perform a clean reinstall from the official source.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine an otherwise legitimate application DLL. It can also block a modified, unsigned, or infected file, so do not blindly restore it.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Expand detections related to the affected application or
tbbmalloc.dll. - Read the detected path and threat details.
- If the application came from a legitimate publisher and the detection is clearly a false positive, use the available Restore or Allow on device action.
- Immediately run a scan, then verify or repair the application so its official copy is restored.
Microsoft warns that Defender may detect a restored item again. Its Protection history guidance explains the available actions.
Also check the history or quarantine area of any third-party antivirus or endpoint security product. If the file was detected because the application came from an unofficial installer, crack, mod package, or unknown download, remove the application and scan Windows instead of creating an exclusion.
If restoring the file makes the application launch only temporarily, the application installation is still incomplete or the file is being removed again. Repair or reinstall the application from its official source.
Fix 3: Correct an architecture or version mismatch
tbbmalloc.dll can be built for 32-bit or 64-bit software. A 64-bit application generally needs the matching 64-bit DLL, while a 32-bit application generally needs the 32-bit build. These builds are not interchangeable.

A “procedure entry point could not be located” message is especially important. It usually means that Windows found a DLL but the application requested a function that this version does not provide. The same issue can occur when one TBB file is replaced while its companion libraries remain older or newer.
Restore the matching set this way:
- Close the affected program and its launcher.
- Open the program’s installation folder.
- Confirm whether
tbbmalloc.dllis beside the executable that produces the error. - Do not copy a DLL from another application.
- Remove unofficial mods or plugins temporarily.
- Run the launcher’s file verification or the application’s repair function.
- If necessary, uninstall and reinstall the complete application.
Do not use a newer-looking DLL to replace an older private runtime. Multiple programs can legitimately contain different TBB versions in separate folders.
To inspect the file without running it:
- Right-click
tbbmalloc.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Details tab to review available version information.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Select a signature and choose Details.
- Check whether Windows reports that the digital signature is valid.
- Note the full folder path and whether it is inside the affected application’s installation directory.
A valid signature does not guarantee that the DLL is the correct version for the application, and an absent signature does not by itself prove malware. Use the application’s official installer as the authority.
Fix 4: Install only the runtime that the application actually requires
Installing Intel oneTBB can be appropriate for developer-built software that specifically documents it as a dependency. Intel distributes runtime and development packages, but those packages are not a universal replacement for an application’s private, version-specific DLL.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For a mainstream game or desktop application, reinstalling the application is safer because it restores the exact runtime build and companion files it was packaged with.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET solely because the filename ends in .dll. These are separate dependencies.
Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable only when the error also identifies files such as VCRUNTIME140.dll, MSVCP140.dll, or api-ms-win-crt-*.dll:
- Download the supported redistributable from Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable page.
- Run
vc_redist.x86.exefor 32-bit applications. - Run
vc_redist.x64.exefor 64-bit applications. - Choose Repair if an existing installation is detected.
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
This normally does not replace tbbmalloc.dll, so it will not solve an isolated TBB error.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They are not the primary repair method for an application-local TBB DLL, but they are useful when Windows itself is unstable or several applications report damaged system files.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the affected application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker guidance.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the application again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, run the commands once more after restarting and check Windows Update. If only one application still fails, return to that application’s repair or reinstall process.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM while guessing what changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan that shows reported problems, while repair actions are handled by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix for its private DLL.

An incomplete application update can leave an executable expecting a different TBB runtime. Open the application’s launcher and install all pending updates. Also install available Windows updates through Start > Settings > Windows Update.
Drivers are not a normal direct fix for tbbmalloc.dll, but a graphics-heavy application may fail after a driver change or may depend on a damaged graphics installation.
To check drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters and any category named in the application’s requirements.
- Right-click the relevant device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update:
- Return to the device in Device Manager.
- Right-click it and choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver, if available.
- Restart and test the application.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers instead of making you hunt through many hardware vendors, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is optional and does not replace repairing the application that owns tbbmalloc.dll.
Why regsvr32 usually does not apply
Do not run regsvr32 tbbmalloc.dll as a routine fix. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM components. A memory allocator runtime is normally loaded directly by its application, not registered as a Windows component.
Microsoft explains the command’s purpose in its regsvr32 documentation. Registration errors do not repair a missing, mismatched, quarantined, or corrupted application DLL.
Advanced recovery if reinstalling fails
Check these items before considering system recovery:
- Confirm the application was not moved to another drive after installation.
- Check that the file is beside the executable that needs it, not merely somewhere else on the disk.
- Review Windows Security and third-party antivirus logs.
- Check folder permissions and whether Controlled Folder Access blocked the installer.
- Remove mods and plugins, then verify the base application.
- Test the application from another Windows user profile if only one profile is affected.
- Record the exact application name, full DLL path, error wording, Windows version, application version, and signature status.
If the failure started after a major system change and application repair has not helped, review Microsoft’s Windows recovery options. System Restore is a fallback, not the normal solution for one missing app-local DLL.
Contact the application publisher when the official installer repeatedly produces the same failure.
Prevention
- Keep the application and its launcher updated.
- Use official installers and stores.
- Let the launcher verify files after interrupted updates.
- Do not mix DLLs between applications or architectures.
- Avoid DLL “fixer” utilities and random download pages.
- If antivirus repeatedly quarantines the file, investigate the detection instead of permanently disabling protection.
- Keep backups of important application settings before a clean reinstall.
FAQ
Is tbbmalloc.dll a Microsoft Windows file?
No. It is associated with Intel TBB or oneTBB and is commonly distributed inside the application that needs it. It should not normally be copied into System32.
Is tbbmalloc.dll safe?
The filename alone cannot answer that. A copy beside a legitimate application executable may be valid, but verify its source, path, signature, and antivirus status.
Should I download tbbmalloc.dll separately?
No, not from a random DLL download website. Restore it through the affected application’s launcher, repair option, or official installer. Use an Intel runtime package only when the application or developer specifically requires it.
Recommended Free Tools
Will Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET fix it?
Not usually. Those are separate runtimes. Install Visual C++ only when the error also names its files or the application’s documentation requires it.
Can I use a 32-bit DLL in a 64-bit program?
No. Use the architecture supplied for the application. Reinstalling the complete program is the safest way to obtain the matching build.
Why does the file exist but Windows still reports an error?
It may be in the wrong folder, corrupted, blocked, incompatible, or mismatched with another TBB library. A procedure-entry-point error particularly suggests a version mismatch.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
No. tbbmalloc.dll is normally loaded by the application and is not ordinarily a COM registration DLL.
What is the most likely successful fix?
Identify the program named in the error, verify or repair its files, and reinstall it from the official source if necessary.
