“TeamViewer: Failed to load resource DLL (TeamViewer_Resource.dll).”
You may also see “The program can’t start because teamviewer_resource_no.dll is missing from your computer,” “teamviewer_resource_no.dll was not found,” or “Error loading teamviewer_resource_no.dll.”

The 60-second answer

teamviewer_resource_no.dll is a TeamViewer application resource file, not a Windows system DLL, Microsoft runtime, driver, or game component. The _no suffix identifies the Norwegian language resource.

The safest fix is to close TeamViewer, uninstall the damaged installation, restart Windows, and reinstall one complete client from TeamViewer’s official Windows download page. Do not download this DLL separately or copy it into System32.

If TeamViewer disappeared after an update or cleanup, antivirus quarantine, an incomplete installation, and mixed TeamViewer versions are more likely than a Windows problem.

#1 Best Overall

What is teamviewer_resource_no.dll?

This file normally sits beside the TeamViewer executable in the TeamViewer program directory, commonly under:

C:Program Files (x86)TeamViewer

The exact directory depends on the installed TeamViewer version and installation choices. TeamViewer installation logs show resource files being extracted into the program directory, which is why placing a replacement DLL in a Windows system folder is not the correct repair.

Public file records associate the filename with older TeamViewer releases, including TeamViewer 9 and TeamViewer 11. One indexed sample is a 32-bit file with version 9.0.24951.0 and a size of about 0.33 MB. That is one third-party catalogue record, not a universal version, size, or architecture for every TeamViewer release.

Windows does not own this file. If the error names it, start by repairing the TeamViewer installation that tried to load it.

What usually caused the error?

Likely cause What it means Correct response
Incomplete or corrupted installation A file was removed, damaged, or never extracted Uninstall and reinstall TeamViewer
Antivirus quarantine Security software removed the resource DLL Review Protection history, then prefer a clean reinstall
Failed update Old and new files were left mixed Remove the affected client and install one complete version
Architecture or version mismatch Files from different TeamViewer builds were combined Use one complete 32-bit or 64-bit installation
Wrong executable path A shortcut, service, or task points to an old folder Identify and repair or remove that old installation
Windows corruption Broader system files are damaged Use DISM and SFC only when other Windows symptoms exist

The filename alone cannot prove whether antivirus, an update, disk cleanup, or another event caused the problem.

Fix 1: Reinstall TeamViewer from its official installer

This is the primary repair when TeamViewer will not start.

Uninstall TeamViewer

  1. Close TeamViewer.
  2. Check the notification area near the clock. Right-click the TeamViewer icon and choose Exit TeamViewer if it is present.
  3. On Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  4. Find TeamViewer, select the three-dot menu, and choose Uninstall.
  5. On Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features, select TeamViewer, and choose Uninstall.
  6. Follow the uninstall wizard. If it asks whether to remove settings, keep them only if preserving the existing configuration is important.
  7. Restart Windows.

Download TeamViewer again only from TeamViewer’s official Windows download page. Run the installer and confirm that Windows identifies the publisher as TeamViewer Germany GmbH. Choose the normal installation unless your organization has a documented deployment method.

After installation, start TeamViewer from the new Start menu shortcut. A successful repair means the program opens without naming teamviewer_resource_no.dll or TeamViewer_Resource.dll.

If the same error remains, do not copy a DLL into the old directory. Continue with the checks below, then perform a clean reinstall of the affected TeamViewer installation.

Keep the architecture consistent

TeamViewer provides 32-bit and 64-bit Windows clients. A 32-bit TeamViewer client can run on 64-bit Windows, but 32-bit and 64-bit TeamViewer clients should not be installed simultaneously.

Do not combine a resource DLL from TeamViewer 9 or 11 with a different executable. Remove the existing installation and install one complete client architecture. The old indexed 32-bit sample does not establish that every current TeamViewer build uses the same file format.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine

Security software can remove a resource DLL while leaving the TeamViewer executable behind.

  • Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
  • Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.

In Windows Security:

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Choose Protection history.
  4. Look for a detection involving TeamViewer or teamviewer_resource_no.dll.
  5. Expand the detection and review its path, detection name, source, and action.
  6. If the file came from TeamViewer’s official installer and the publisher and signature are legitimate, follow your organization’s security policy before restoring it.

Reinstalling TeamViewer from the official source is usually safer than restoring an isolated DLL. If antivirus quarantines the file again, do not repeatedly allow it. Download a fresh installer, check the security product’s detection, and contact TeamViewer or your security administrator if the detection continues.

An unexpected copy of the DLL in a temporary, download, or unrelated application folder deserves caution. A missing resource DLL does not itself prove malware, but an unusual path should not be trusted automatically.

Fix 3: Check whether Windows is launching an old TeamViewer

Sometimes the current installation is healthy, but a shortcut, scheduled task, service, or backup directory still points to an obsolete copy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Review the Target and Start in fields.
  4. Check whether they point to an old TeamViewer directory.
  5. Open Task Manager, select Startup apps, and look for stale TeamViewer entries.
  6. Search Task Scheduler for TeamViewer tasks and inspect their executable paths.
  7. If the error appears when Windows starts, check Services for a TeamViewer service pointing to an obsolete installation.

Repair the installation at the path actually being used, or remove the stale shortcut or task after confirming that it is no longer needed. Do not repair a different current folder and assume the old executable will use it.

Fix 4: Perform a clean reinstall after a failed update

A failed update can leave an executable from one release beside resource files from another.

  1. Exit TeamViewer from the notification area.
  2. Uninstall TeamViewer through Settings > Apps.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. Check for leftover TeamViewer folders only after confirming that no required settings or deployment files must be preserved.
  5. Download a fresh installer from TeamViewer’s official site.
  6. Install one architecture and one complete client.
  7. Test TeamViewer before restoring custom shortcuts or automation.

Do not manually replace only teamviewer_resource_no.dll. A resource file may depend on the rest of the matching TeamViewer installation.

Why DLL download sites and System32 are the wrong fix

Downloading a DLL from a random website can provide:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The wrong TeamViewer release
  • The wrong architecture
  • A file that does not match the executable
  • A modified or unsafe file
  • A replacement that leaves the original installation damaged

The indexed 9.0.24951.0 file is old and 32-bit. Matching the filename alone does not make it suitable for the TeamViewer executable on your computer.

Do not copy the file to:

C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64

TeamViewer should find its own resource file in its application directory. Windows DLL search behavior gives application files an important role, and placing an unrelated or untrusted DLL in a searched system directory can create version conflicts and security exposure.

regsvr32 is also not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, typically for COM or ActiveX components. A TeamViewer language-resource DLL is not normally registered that way. Running regsvr32 against it will not rebuild TeamViewer.

Fix 5: Repair broader Windows corruption only when indicated

SFC is not the primary repair for this file because teamviewer_resource_no.dll is not a protected Windows component. Use Windows repair commands when several applications fail, Windows features show corruption, or you have other system-file symptoms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  1. Wait for it to complete.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows and test TeamViewer again.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands report that they repaired files, retry TeamViewer. If they report no integrity violations and only TeamViewer remains affected, return to the TeamViewer reinstall steps rather than repeating SFC indefinitely.

Fix 6: Do not install unrelated runtimes

Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, and .NET repair only make sense when a separate error identifies one of those components. They do not restore teamviewer_resource_no.dll.

For example, a message naming VCRUNTIME140.dll points toward the appropriate Microsoft Visual C++ package and its x86 or x64 architecture. A message naming teamviewer_resource_no.dll points first toward TeamViewer’s own installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Likewise, Windows Update and Device Manager are not definitive fixes for this resource file. Driver work is relevant only if other applications show graphics, network, or device failures.

If separate device problems require a driver update, Device Manager steps are:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the relevant device category.
  4. Right-click the device and select Update driver.
  5. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  6. Restart if Windows installs an update.

For multiple devices, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify stale drivers instead of making you hunt through many hardware entries; driver installation is completed by the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling TeamViewer when this DLL is the only failure.

If reinstalling TeamViewer still fails

Work through these checks in order:

  1. Confirm the exact path. Use the shortcut, service, or task that triggers the error and identify the executable directory.
  2. Install from a fresh download. Do not reuse an old installer cache.
  3. Check security software again. Look for a new quarantine event immediately after installation.
  4. Test a temporary Windows user profile. If TeamViewer works there, the original profile or its permissions may be involved.
  5. Review Event Viewer. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application and inspect errors at the time TeamViewer fails. Note the failing executable and module.
  6. Remove stale remnants carefully. Follow TeamViewer’s uninstall guidance and preserve settings or deployment data that your organization needs.
  7. Contact TeamViewer support. Provide the exact error, TeamViewer version, executable path, Windows version, architecture, and any antivirus detection.

System Restore is a last-resort rollback for a recently working installation. It returns Windows to an earlier restore point and may reverse recent application or system changes; it does not constitute a DLL repair.

How to identify the type of failure

  • Missing file: Windows explicitly names teamviewer_resource_no.dll and says it is missing or was not found.
  • Missing dependency: TeamViewer may name another DLL, often a runtime or system component. Repair the component named by that separate error.
  • Incompatible executable or DLL: The message may say the file is not designed to run on Windows or contains an error. This commonly warrants removing mixed files and reinstalling one matching TeamViewer build.
  • Wrong installation: The error path points to an old backup, temporary folder, or removed TeamViewer release.

FAQ

Does this DLL belong to Windows?

No. It is associated with TeamViewer and normally belongs in the TeamViewer application directory.

What does _no mean?

It identifies the Norwegian language resource variant. The generic resource name may also appear as TeamViewer_Resource.dll.

Is this file 32-bit or 64-bit?

A publicly indexed sample is 32-bit, version 9.0.24951.0. Do not assume that every TeamViewer release using this filename has the same architecture.

Which TeamViewer versions contain it?

Public records associate the filename with TeamViewer 9 and TeamViewer 11. Current official documentation does not provide a complete file manifest or exact release mapping, so use the complete installer matching the installed client rather than a catalogue file.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I download the DLL separately?

No. Use TeamViewer’s official installer. Replacing one DLL can introduce a mismatch and does not repair the rest of the installation.

Will reinstalling Visual C++ fix it?

Not unless another error specifically names a missing Microsoft runtime. This filename is a TeamViewer resource file.

When should I run SFC?

Run DISM followed by SFC only when Windows or multiple applications show signs of system corruption. For an isolated TeamViewer error, reinstall TeamViewer first.
