In Tentlan, strong play comes from balancing city growth with the population, resources, research, and troops that growth requires. Prioritize technologies that unlock useful options, build with your army’s role and travel time in mind, and check your Watchtower and current reports before committing to an attack.
How to get started in Tentlan
Tentlan is an online strategy game set in pre-Columbian America, with individual, cooperative, and competitive play, including PvP and PvE. The official game description presents these as different ways to play; choose the one that fits whether you prefer independent development, coordination with others, or competition. The game is free to play, and Tentlan says optional extras are not mandatory.
For a new city, think in terms of a connected economy rather than maximizing one building or unit type. Production supports construction, research, and troops; population and corn consumption also affect what you can sustain. Tentlan’s official guide and research FAQ describe these systems together. Because the forum material is old, use it to understand the relationships, then confirm costs, requirements, and effects in your current game.
Keep growth and readiness in balance
When your city is secure and you have a clear next unlock, investing in buildings and research can improve future options. When threats or planned raids make immediate readiness more important, keeping resources and troops available may be preferable to spending everything on expansion. Reassess as conditions change instead of following a fixed build order.

What should you research first?
Research is a progression system, not a separate endgame activity. Tentlan’s official research FAQ says technologies can unlock buildings, further research, feasts, and units, and that research is conducted through the Observatory. That makes the best next technology the one that advances a goal you can actually use.
- Open the Observatory. Review the technologies currently available and their in-game costs and prerequisites.
- Choose an unlock that serves your next objective. A building or production path may support development; a unit or military-related unlock may support a planned defense or raid.
- Check what the choice will delay. Research competes with construction and military spending for resources, so avoid committing to a long-term unlock if you need those resources immediately.
- Recheck the in-game description before investing. The official FAQ is approximately a decade old, and exact requirements or effects may have changed.
Do not assume there is one universally optimal research order: the right sequence depends on what is unlocked in your world, your available resources, and whether your priority is growth, defense, or offense.

How to plan attacks and defenses
Army planning involves more than troop strength. The official attack FAQ names the Temazcal, Dwarf Pyramid, and Stele as buildings that provide troop bonuses. Their current effects should be checked in-game before you build around them.
Account for the slowest unit
Tentlan’s official defense FAQ says an army travels at the speed of its slowest unit. A mixed force can therefore arrive later than a faster force would on its own. Consider arrival time as well as strength when choosing a composition, especially if timing matters to your plan.

Use information before committing
The same defense FAQ says a Watchtower can reveal approaching troops and details about them. Check the Watchtower and current in-game reports to inform defensive decisions; a general guide cannot tell you the live state of a battle or substitute for the information available in your world.
Weigh bonuses against the mission
The attack FAQ states that each Astrology level grants 2% extra booty per raid. This is an older, version-sensitive figure from an official forum FAQ dating to approximately 2015, not a guarantee of the current mechanic. Confirm Astrology’s current description in the Observatory before treating the bonus as part of a raid calculation.

Choosing a play style
Tentlan supports solo, cooperative, and competitive play, but none is automatically best. A solo approach gives you control over your own development; cooperative play can involve coordinating with others; competitive play puts more emphasis on opponents and timing. Choose based on your goals and the conditions of your current world, and adjust your growth or readiness when those conditions change.
