Calamity is a large Terraria content mod, not a standalone game. You install it through tModLoader, add its required separate soundtrack mod, then use Calamity’s progression and class guides to plan your run. Because the official progression guide warns that it may not reflect the current release—and the developers announced on August 10, 2026 that they would cease development—check your installed version’s Workshop notes before relying on specific gear, recipes, or compatibility advice.
What is the Calamity Mod?
Calamity expands Terraria with bosses and enemies across the game’s progression, additional biomes and structures, a Rogue class, music, recipes, and broader gameplay changes. It also extends the endgame. It is made to run with Terraria through tModLoader rather than as a separate game.

The Calamity Steam Workshop listing describes the mod as having 27 bosses, five minibosses, more than 2,400 items, more than 700 weapons, five biomes, and two difficulty settings above Expert that can be combined with Master. Those are the listing’s own published figures, not independently verified counts.
How do you install Calamity?
Use tModLoader and the Calamity Mod’s official Steam Workshop listing. The Workshop listing says the separate Calamity soundtrack mod is required, so include it as part of setup rather than assuming the main mod contains all required music content. The public release mirror warns against unofficial builds and redistribution; use the official distribution route.

- Install tModLoader. Confirm which tModLoader branch you intend to use before subscribing to mods.
- Open the Calamity Mod Steam Workshop listing. Review its current change notes and compatibility information, then subscribe to the official mod.
- Subscribe to the required Calamity soundtrack mod. The main Workshop listing identifies it as a requirement.
- Check the active mod set and launch. Make sure the Calamity content and soundtrack are enabled in tModLoader before starting or loading a world.
- Recheck compatibility before loading an existing world. Mod and tModLoader versions can change; confirm the branch and current notes rather than relying on an old setup guide.
At the time reflected in the Workshop information reviewed for this guide, compatibility labels included tModLoader 1.4.3 and 1.4.4, and the listing metadata showed an August 9, 2026 update. Those labels and version context can differ across listings or search results, so they are not a guarantee that a particular branch is compatible today.
How should a first Calamity playthrough begin?
Start by choosing a tModLoader branch that matches the live Workshop notes, installing the required soundtrack, and checking that both mods are active. Then consult the Official Calamity Mod Wiki’s progression guide and class setup guide for the version you actually installed. Treat the progression guide as orientation, not as definitive current instructions: the guide itself warns that it is not updated for the current version.
- Verify recipes and unlock conditions in the guide or mod information for your installed release.
- Check when recommended equipment becomes obtainable; an item may be useful in a guide yet unavailable at your current point in progression.
- Use the boss guide’s intended order as a route, not an unbreakable rule. Its guidance allows players to skip ahead and fight bosses in a different order.
- Before loading a long-running world after updating, confirm compatibility and current change notes.
What order should you fight Calamity bosses?
Use the Official Calamity Mod Wiki’s boss guide for an intended sequence, then verify its advice against your installed version. The guide describes a recommended order but also says players can skip ahead and defeat bosses in another order, so its sequence is a convenience for planning rather than the only valid progression.
For a first run, following the intended order is a straightforward way to avoid choosing a fight without checking its place in progression. If you want to take a different route, use the guide to confirm the relevant unlocks and gear first. Since the progression guide warns that it is not current, do not assume a listed recipe, unlock, or equipment recommendation still applies unchanged.

Which class should you choose?
Calamity includes the familiar Terraria class playstyles and adds Rogue. Pick a class based on the kind of combat you enjoy, then use a setup guide that matches your progression point and mod version. A useful comparison looks beyond damage alone:
- Damage style: Choose the class whose way of attacking suits you; its recommended weapons and equipment will differ from another class’s.
- Range: Consider how close you need to be to deal damage and how much room you want to keep from enemies.
- Mobility and survivability: Compare how the proposed setup supports movement and staying alive, not just its damage potential.
- Availability: Check whether the gear can actually be obtained at that point in your run and in your installed release.
Do not treat a class setup as a universal best-build ranking. The right recommendation depends on the fight, the point in progression, and what equipment is currently obtainable; exact weapon and armor advice should be checked against the version you are playing.
How should you choose a difficulty?
The Workshop listing describes two difficulty settings above Expert and says they can be combined with Master. These options are for players who want additional challenge; the fact that they exist does not mean every player should select the hardest combination. Choose based on how much difficulty you want and how comfortable you are with Terraria’s combat, then consult the current mod information for the exact mode names and behavior.

The latest Calamity release identified in the information available for this guide is version 2.2.3, dated August 9, 2026. Separately, Steam change notes report version 2.2.2 published to stable tModLoader v2026.6. These are distinct release and branch references; do not treat one as proof of compatibility with every tModLoader branch.

Before installing or opening a world, check the live Workshop change notes and the tModLoader branch information. The Workshop page’s compatibility labels and metadata can provide useful context, but version labels may differ between the listing and search results. Confirm the combination you plan to run rather than assuming an older guide or version number guarantees compatibility.
Is Calamity still being developed?
On August 10, 2026, the Calamity development team announced that it would cease development. PC Gamer’s August 11, 2026 report reproduced the team’s statement: “We will unfortunately be ceasing all development of Calamity.” The report said requests to remove contributed assets were part of the team’s stated context.
The announcement means players should not count on new content or assume future tModLoader compatibility will be maintained. It does not, by itself, establish what maintenance or asset removal will happen after the announcement. For practical decisions, rely on the current official Workshop listing and its change notes rather than promises about future updates.
