There is no verifiable, current EA-published ranking of its ten best-selling franchises by lifetime game copies sold. EA has released sales milestones for some series at different dates, while other commonly cited figures are estimates with inconsistent dates and definitions. The ranking below is therefore an approximate editorial list, not an audited company leaderboard; the available evidence supports a few historical milestones, but not a trustworthy ordering of all ten.
How to read this ranking
“Best-selling” here means franchise game copies or units sold—not revenue, net bookings, active players, or the sales of one individual game. EA’s public disclosures do not provide comparable, current franchise-wide unit totals for ten series. The secondary compilation linked below includes estimates for several EA franchises, but its figures do not share a clearly uniform date or measurement basis. As a result, a precise top ten cannot be substantiated.

The list is best understood as a set of prominent candidates, with the strongest dated milestones first and the remaining entries grouped as unverified rather than assigned invented totals or an unsupported order.
EA franchises with public sales milestones
1. FIFA / EA SPORTS FC
EA said in its November 2010 financial-results release that the FIFA franchise had sold more than 100 million units worldwide by that point. That is a historical minimum, not a current lifetime figure, and the release does not establish a present-day total for FIFA together with its successor branding, EA SPORTS FC. EA separately reported 8 million units for FIFA 11 at the time; that is an individual game’s figure, not an additional franchise total. EA’s November 2010 Q2 FY11 results.

2. Need for Speed
EA stated in 2013 that Need for Speed had sold more than 150 million copies since its 1994 launch. The figure is a dated franchise milestone; it should not be presented as the series’ current total. EA’s 2013 Need for Speed announcement.
3. The Sims
EA reported more than 140 million units sold for The Sims by 2011, measured from the series’ February 2000 launch. In February 2025, EA said the franchise had more than 500 million lifetime players to date. Players are not copies sold: people may play without purchasing a game, and one person can play multiple entries. The 2025 player count therefore cannot update or be compared directly with the 2011 sales milestone. EA’s 2011 Sims release; EA’s 2025 franchise anniversary announcement.

Other major EA series often included in estimate-based lists
The following franchises appear in broad secondary compilations of best-selling game series, including the linked franchise list. The available EA evidence here does not establish comparable, dated franchise-wide copy totals for them, so their placement relative to one another—or relative to the three series above—cannot be verified.
4. Madden NFL
Madden NFL is a major EA football series and a frequent candidate in estimate-based franchise lists. No comparable, dated lifetime unit total is established here. EA’s statement that its American Football franchise exceeded $1 billion in net bookings during FY25 is a one-year commercial measure, not lifetime game copies sold. EA’s FY25 results.
Rank #3
- Triple pack includes
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
5. Battlefield
Battlefield is another prominent EA series included in secondary franchise-sales estimates. A current, comparable EA-published cumulative unit figure is not established here, so a numerical rank would overstate what the evidence supports.
6. Mass Effect
Mass Effect appears in secondary lists of major-selling franchises, but the available evidence does not provide a dated EA franchise-wide copy count comparable with the FIFA, Need for Speed, or Sims milestones.
Rank #4
- Anthology collection of EA Sports games
- Get deep football simulation in Madden 2003
- Play slugger, manager, and GM of your favorite team in MVP Baseball 2003
- Rule the rink with NHL 2003
- Break away from the pack in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 and in NASCAR Thunder 2003
7–10. Other franchises: order and totals unverified
A definitive final four cannot be identified from comparable public lifetime-copy figures. Secondary compilations include many franchises and may offer estimates, but they do not supply a consistently dated, primary-source basis for ordering EA’s entries. Rather than imply that ranks 7 through 10 are measured facts, this ranking leaves those places unresolved.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why EA’s recent business figures do not settle the ranking
EA’s financial reporting uses measures such as revenue and net bookings, while franchise announcements may use players, engagement, or individual-game sales. Each answers a different question. For example, FY25 net bookings for the American Football franchise describe commercial activity in that fiscal year, not a count of copies sold over the franchise’s lifetime. EA also reported nearly 4 million units sold for Split Fiction after its March 2025 launch, but that is a single game’s sales figure—not a franchise total. Neither figure can be inserted into a cumulative franchise-unit ranking. EA’s FY2025 Form 10-K provides company reporting context, not a ten-franchise lifetime unit table.

So, which EA franchise has sold the most?
The available evidence does not prove a current winner across all EA franchises. Among the dated franchise-wide milestones cited here, Need for Speed has the largest disclosed minimum at more than 150 million copies in 2013, followed by The Sims at more than 140 million units in 2011 and FIFA at more than 100 million units in 2010. Because the milestones come from different years and EA has not supplied comparable current totals for these or the other candidates, that comparison is historical—not a current ranking.
A secondary compilation of best-selling video game franchises can provide context, but estimates from such lists should not be mistaken for an EA-audited ranking. The reliable takeaway is that EA has documented enormous sales for several long-running franchises, while the exact current top ten by lifetime copies remains unverified.
