Summer Game Fest 2024 delivered a mix of new game announcements, release-date news, and trailers for games already on the way. These ten picks favor reveals that offered a notable surprise, a concrete new detail, or a distinctive audience hook; they are an editorial selection, not an official or audience-voted ranking.
The main presentation took place on June 7, 2024, at YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, running for about two hours. Its slate was not ten brand-new games: some titles were announced, while others received substantial updates or trailers.
The 10 standouts
1. LEGO Horizon Adventures — a Switch surprise
The game itself had appeared in leaks, so its announcement was not wholly unexpected. The genuine surprise was the platform news: LEGO Horizon Adventures was revealed for PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. That reach gave the Horizon series a notably different route to players. GameSpot’s roundup lists the platforms, while VGC’s recap distinguishes the Switch confirmation from the leak-confirming announcement.
2. Alan Wake 2: Night Springs — a surprise playable that day
The Night Springs expansion debuted during the presentation and was available the same day. It consists of three episodes, each with a different main character, making this more than a teaser for a future release. Epic Games Store’s event recap describes the episodes and same-day availability.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
3. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions — a release date and standalone game
Quidditch Champions was presented as a standalone game from Unbroken Studios, rather than a mode attached to another Harry Potter title. Epic says it supports solo play, co-op, and online play, and gives its release date as September 3, 2024. The date announcement was one of the presentation’s clearest pieces of practical news for fans waiting to play. Epic’s recap and GameSpot’s roundup cover the game and date.
4. Civilization VII — the series returns, but gameplay stayed offstage
Firaxis revealed Civilization VII with a mood trailer, not a gameplay demonstration. The announcement confirmed a prior leak, but the return of the long-running strategy series was still a major headline. The distinction matters: the showcase established that the next entry existed, while leaving its mechanics for another look. GameSpot describes the trailer, and VGC notes the leak confirmation.

5. Star Wars Outlaws — familiar faces ahead of a longer look
This was an update to an already announced Ubisoft game, not a new-game reveal. Its trailer included familiar characters such as Lando Calrissian and Jabba the Hutt. Epic’s recap also pointed viewers to a longer look planned for Ubisoft Forward on June 10, making the SGF appearance a preview rather than the final word on the game. Epic’s recap covers the trailer and follow-up showcase.
6. Batman: Arkham Shadow — a VR-exclusive continuation
Arkham Shadow stood out for a very specific audience: it is a VR-exclusive continuation of the Arkham series. The trailer introduced the villain known as the Rat King. The VR platform focus is central to the reveal; this is not a general-platform Arkham sequel. GameSpot’s roundup describes the trailer and its VR status.

7. Metaphor: ReFantazio — a fresh look from Persona creators
Metaphor: ReFantazio was already known, and its SGF appearance was a trailer update rather than the game’s initial announcement. GameSpot highlighted its connection to the team behind recent Persona titles, its related art direction and gameplay, and an October release. For fans following the project, the appeal was seeing more of its identity and timing—not learning that it existed. GameSpot’s roundup covers the trailer and release window.
8. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II — story and gameplay in 15th-century Bohemia
The SGF trailer for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II mixed story and gameplay moments, following Henry of Skalitz amid conflict in 15th-century Bohemia. It offered a more substantial glimpse of an existing game than a mood-only teaser, with both the setting and the central character in view. Epic’s recap describes its story focus, and GameSpot notes the mix of story and gameplay.

9. No More Room in Hell 2 — another distinct game announcement
No More Room in Hell 2 was among the other games highlighted in contemporaneous event recaps. It earns a place here as a distinct announcement alongside the bigger franchise names, rather than treating a platform detail or a second trailer for one game as a separate reveal. The recaps list it among the event’s broader slate. Epic’s event recap and GameSpot’s roundup include it.
10. ELDEN RING: Shadow of the Erdtree — an expansion with a huge audience waiting
Shadow of the Erdtree was an expansion update, not a new standalone game announcement. Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s June 21, 2024 announcement confirmed its availability and listed editions including a collector’s edition and bundles with the base game for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The publisher said the original ELDEN RING had sold more than 25 million copies; that figure is for the base game, not the expansion. Bandai Namco’s announcement provides the edition and sales context.

What made these reveals stand out
The strongest moments did not all work in the same way. LEGO Horizon Adventures had a meaningful platform surprise; Night Springs paired a reveal with immediate availability; Quidditch Champions supplied a release date and play options; and Arkham Shadow made a clear VR-specific pitch. Other entries were valuable because they showed more of a game already on the radar, such as Star Wars Outlaws and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
That mix is why “reveals” is best read broadly for this showcase. Some entries brought genuinely new information, while others were trailers or updates. The selection reflects those differences rather than presenting every item as an equally novel announcement.
